May 27, 2018 - Mebane, NC

The jump from Myrtle Beach to Virginia Beach is a bit too far for our usual one-day travel distance. So we are pending three days near the town of Mebame, NC. We are staying at XXX RV Park in a long nice site but with no sewer. We found a free concert in a small Park in nearby Burlington, NC that was fun. Mebame has published walking routes on their streets and we took advantage of those to walk and jog those streets.

Oct 23, 2016 - Truly a Fulltimer

Thursday, October 20 was a wonderful occasion for us. We closed on our house and are now fulltimers and living in our 5th wheel. We've been actually living in our 5th wheel since January 2014 as we have been unable to sell our house until now. The impediment to selling our house was removed the beginning of September and we immediately put it on the market. Within 2 weeks we had a contract and now it has closed. New owners for the house and we are free of a stick and brick dwelling. As we had been renting the house for the last 2 years, we...

Jun 13, 2016 - A Short Visit with Friends

We left the Charlotte area around 9:00 yesterday morning - trying to beat the heat. We only had a couple of hour drive to Mebane. We're visiting friends in Whitsett, had planned to visit other friends in Hillsborough, & Mebane is between those towns. The Jones Station RV Park turned out to be a lovely, quiet rv park. The sites are long & widely spaced with trees between them. The owners have placed nice swing seats thruout the park. There are fire flies among the trees at night & we even saw a deer in the park this evening. After we got set...

May 18, 2016 - Our Time in NC before leaving for Maine

Before we get to Maine I thought we‘d bring you all to date on what we did from when we left Myrtle Beach the end of February. We found a really nice campground in Mebane, NC – Jones Station RV Park. We didn’t workamp just were campers. It is a fairly new campground west of Raleigh and Durham. About half of the campers were there a month or more while the rest of the sites were overnight ones. There were even some people renting while waiting for transplants at Duke. A real mix of campers and all were nice. The other nice thing about this...

May 4, 2014 - And we had fun fun fun til her daddy took the t-bird (segway) away!

We are anxiously awaiting our departure from sunny North Carolina. It's time to go. Both Gary and I have "hitch itch" and we measure each day with, well this is the last time we'll do this or that here in this location. Last appointment is Thursday at UNC and we've discussed do we leave on Friday? Do we stay the weekend and do a few more fun things? We had planned to go to Asheville and see Biltmore, but it's a long way, a 4 hour drive. We thought at one point we'd drive the car, do the tour stay the night, and make it an event. But after...

Apr 27, 2014 - Rodents are here, well or rugrats, well or whatever.

This week had a lot of highlights to it. Monday we looked forward to because we were expecting a UPS package. And it arrived right on time. Early in the day. Excitement over! Oh well it was a new Rain Jacket (waterproof!) that we've been anticipating needing for our next assignment with our duties parking people at the Mercer County Fairgrounds after hours. It's big enough for Gary and I can wear it also, even though it hits me about my knees. Oh well, at least we'll be dry. Tuesday brought more excitement because it was another test day...

Apr 20, 2014 - Nascar Drivers

Spring blooming continues to be glorious here. Dogwoods, wisteria, flowering cherry and crab, magnolia, azaleas and almost all blooming at the same time. North Carolina in the spring is truly a little piece of heaven for the eyes. For the nose, however, is another story. Gary in particular says coming to North Carolina is a one time event. Worth it this time but he's suffering too much with pollen symptoms to make it an annual event. We are curious about one particular tree/bush that we've seen only in NC so far. It's unusual because it...

Apr 13, 2014 - Wine Tasting x 20!

First an update on the medical trial. I got the medication at my last visit and the 1st day I thought for sure I was on the trial med. The 2nd day when I felt awful and was in the bathroom very frequently it dawned on me that I just might not be on the trial med. And the rest of the 1st week on the med was more of the same. So the excitement for me for the trial is gone. I've decided to slowly cut the corn products out of my diet again. I'm definitely not feeling any new weird symptoms only more red spots on my skin that itch that I feel...

Apr 8, 2014 - Big day on the Medical Trail Circuit

Yesterday was a big day at the medical trial. Up early to do the prep, had nothing to eat or drink since midnight the night before. On the road to UNC, everything 1 2 3 until we got to the parking garage. No place to park and it's raining cats and dogs and up we go to the top top top. Rush to the examination and everything is calm and nice, no rush no hurry. I get to go through the same basic steps that I did on the first visit, blood taken, blood pressure, temperature, EKG. All went smoothly. Then we start the real test which consists of...

Apr 6, 2014 - Enjoying North Carolina events

The week has been pretty much normal. The weather improved and we were able to eat outside on the picnic table a couple of days. We have been traveling out and about and ended up at Home Depot one day this week. I spotted a Hibiscus with a double bloom. And Gary actually didn't say boo when I decided to purchase it! This one is small enough to travel with us for a while and hopefully will remain a joy with each bloom it offers. Saturday was a day for exploring North Carolina Culture. I donned my new croc shoes and set out to enjoy the...

Mar 30, 2014 - Another wine tasting

Wed or Thursday we got a knock on our door and it was the campground owner. Asked if we liked wine, and then gave us a card good for a free wine tasting at a local winery. Turns out we had already bought a bottle of the wine at the local grocery store from that local winery, so we were more than happy to go and see what it was all about. Well one thing leads to another .... The whole week had been pretty gloomy and cold, so when Saturday morning came around I asked Gary where are we going today? All I really wanted was to get out of the RV...

Mar 23, 2014 - Not only spring at Home Depot!

This week is a big week for two reasons. I completed my colonoscopy and more importantly we are finally seeing signs of spring, one of the reasons we made this pitstop in North Carolina in the first place! The colonoscopy process seemed to last forever. The fast day was a challenge for me because I'm definitely an eater. I like my meals and I like them on time. I don't like to be hungry ever, cause I usually am hungry all the time no matter what. But we managed with a few crutches. I was allowed to drink clear juices so I got a particularly...
