Sep 29, 2019 - Kannapolis, NC

Fun day for both of us today. We had the free breakfast again. Then Jim went to the NASCAR Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I walked over to the strip mall and walked through all the stores that were open, including a dept store called Roses. After lunch, I went to the pool for a little while, but just out my feet in as the pool was cold, even though it was 94 today. The weather person said this is the 2nd hottest Sept ever recorded. After that, I walked back over to hit the stores that didn't open till 1 pm.

Sep 28, 2019 - Kannapolis, NC

Sat, Sept 28 We had a delicious hot continental breakfast this morning and headed south to the Concord Mills Mall. It's an indoor factory outlet mall with over 200 stores. It's really nice. Just a few miles...

It's a very nice center, open air, with roofs over the walkways, which was a good thing as it was very hot today, hitting 92 at one point. We decided to take NC route 49 instead of the interstate. It was a good road, but only 2 lanes a lot of the way. Along the way, we passed a sign pointing to Siler City, which was a town featured in the Andy Griffith show. There was...

May 30, 2014 - 1st Day of NASCAR Mania

From Tom Johnson Camping Center – Concord, NC NASCAR mania began in earnest today with a trip to nearby Kannapolis. It is home to a hometown NASCAR legend hero, the race shop of an owner/driver that happens to be my favorite cup series driver and to a museum that combines a man’s love of motorsports and music. First stop was the race shop of Stewart-Haas. Three time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Tony Stewart is the “Stewart” half of the ownership tandem. He is also still an active driver on the cup series circuit races. The 2014 Stewart-Haas...
