May 31, 2017 - Grandson Harrison Meets Great Grandma Lea...Colfax, NC

One of life's treasure moments. Rick and Dyanne brought Harrison to High Point, North Carolina for a visit with Deb's mother, Lea. What a wonderful experience it was. Four generations gathered together for a weekend of making memories. Harrison started on his PGA career and got Grandpa started on his diet and exercise program. But mostly a time for quality hanging out!

Sep 4, 2013 - Furnitureland

Although the day dawned bright and sunny the drive out of the mountains was fraught with thick fog, which lightened occasionally only to block visibility once again so that it felt like we wouldn't have time to brake if something was stopped in our lane. But once we arrived here in High Point, the sun came out full force and we parked in this almost empty campground right on the lake shore. The internet is so strong here we could stream a movie, something you don't take for granted as a camper. But we weren't here to watch movies; we were...

Apr 13, 2011 - the mecca of furniture

While there are a number of other smaller furniture shopping opportunities in High Point, the 1,000,000 square feet of show space at Furnitureland South kept us busy for as long as we had the strength to walk. It was hard to believe that this temple of furniture is owned by one family. The beautiful building with an unrivaled depth of inventory was fun to explore even if we didn't have some serious shopping in mind. We arrived here with one goal - replace the massive couch and easy chair that don't comfortably seat two couples with more...

Jul 24, 2009 - Tracking my trip to High Point, NC

Saturday 7/25/2009: What a beautiful day in North Carolina. Clear skies, hot temperatures, but the luckily the humidity is low. I got my routing to the high speed boat races and after only 1 time pushing the bike I made the 2 miles and 3 or 4 tough hills to the boat race venue, the Oak Hollow Lake. What a show they put on. Only in this great USA will men (boys in older bodies) spend their livelihood ($) and time to see who can go the fastest on water in a ΒΌ mile. My nephew is in one of the lowest classes of racing and will only go 85 to 90...

Feb 21, 2008 - The Nevada Desert Dogs have arrived in High Point, all 7 of us !

The VanEmmeriks arrived on Sunday afternoon. As stated in the previous entry we had to wait for mail delivery on Tuesday before we could leave Biloxi. Thank goodness the mail we were waiting for did arrive. Some of you may not know we're here because of the International Custom Rod Builders Exposition (ICRBE), John and Dave build fishing rods. They've wanted to come to this show since the shows inception. The show's originator, Tom Kirkman recommended the local city owned RV park, Oak Hollow Family campground. We're really glad he made...

Nov 5, 2007 - Repairs and reunions...

Our first day back in our old neighborhood started with getting the RV in for repairs, then heading over to Parks Chevrolet for an oil change on the Suburban. Wagner, Elvis and I made ourselves comfortable while Stephan took some time to browse at the trucks available for sale. We test drove a Ford and a Chevy noting the pros and cons of each. We stopped by and picked up Forrest and Mitch, who are two of Wagner's best buddies, and headed to the local pizza place for lunch. We love these boys - they are just awesome kids. They had a lot to...

Oct 24, 2007 - To High Point

This morning it was raining, sometimes pretty hard, so I waited until it stopped for a few minutes before unhooking my RV. Then I headed to nearby High Point to the Oak Hollow Family Campground and Recreation Complex. It is owned by the City of High Point. There are 116 sites, all with full hookups. It is situated on Oak Hollow Lake and has a nice marina. It also has tennis courts, two golf courses, a putting green and a swimming pool. Section A, where I'm staying, has lots of trees. It had stopped raining for a little while by the time I...
