Sep 5, 2016 - Labor Day Waterfalls

Monday morning, we checked out of the treehouse and started making our way home. In Sylva, we took NC-107 south to Cullhowee and turned on Caney Fork Road. Right where the road turned to gravel after about nine miles, we parked and got ready for our first waterfall of the day. We hiked down Rough Butt Road and waded crossed Caney Fork. Across the creek, we picked up FSR-4669 and followed this for just under a mile to a ford over Rough Butt Creek. We were able to rock hop across and then picked up a narrow path to follow the creek upstream....

Jul 2, 2016 - High Falls Whitewater Release

Last weekend, I headed to the mountains to see High Falls on West Fork Tuckasegee. Sandy had to work, so I didn’t stay through the Independence Day holiday. I left Friday night and stayed at the Econo Lodge in Waynesville. It's a budget hotel, so nothing fancy, but the views from the room were very nice. 10/2 - 10/8 This was the best of time and the worst of times in North Carolina. The best of times was the time we spent with Melissa. Of course she met us with a 2 page list of things she needed at Walmart because she was out of everything. She knew if she waited for us to come we would buy it for her and it wouldn't come out of her allowance for the month. That's my girl!! Did I tell you that Melissa's apartment is wonderful?
