Oct 14, 2019 - The New South - Charlotte North Carolina

Charlotte - The Queen City This is my first visit to Charlotte aside from brief layovers at their airport. It reflects the many faces of the American South. It's the second center of banking in the United States, boasts two professional teams, the Hornets and Panthers, an increasingly diverse population and the culinary options that accompany them. The Settler's cemetery sits amid a forest of commercial and residential towers. A massive Latina festival occupies blocks of the main street along with a homeless population. A variety of...

May 21, 2019 - Home

We are unpacked and have returned to normal life. Washing clothes and dishes, grocery shopping, making our bed and making coffee every morning. I must admit...my coffee is better than the Lido coffee so I have enjoyed drinking coffee again. The only difficult thing so far is meals, the decision on what to fix and eat is a daily grind to me. So we have had hamburgers, BBQ Chicken, BBQ pork spare ribs and went to Kim's to eat and finally last night we had pizza! Now I am out of ideas. I have been reading John and Diane's blog and Bill and...

May 15, 2019 - Grand Farewell Day at Sea

Today we finish packing for tomorrow we leave the Amsterdam and this fantastic crew behind to board a flight home to Charlotte and our love ones. We really missed them this time and can't wait to see everyone. But before we go we have a day of saying good bye. We attended our last culinary show in the Test Kitchen with Abby. She is good but the guest chefs left a lot to be desired throughout this cruise. Too regional, unknown ingredients, unk. measurements, could not relate recipes to us as they were used to regional spices, meats, fish,...

May 14, 2019 - Day at Sea

Today was our busiest day for saying see you soon....we had lunch with our 2015 group, Chuck and Ada, Kathy and Jerry and Kim and George in the dining room. We had a lovely time with them remembering our other friends Diek and MArcia who were not with us this year. We then went to the 3 pm Filipino Show which was fantastic. They created a show worthy of Broadway. It was super. Many of our staff in this one are ones we see everyday and know well...Rey, Angel, Richard, Twinkle, the assistant beverage manager Edmund, the beverage manager for...

Yes, the packing has really started now, we packed all the formal wear, the extra stuff and all my painting stuff along with the odds and ends around the room. Most of the drawer items are packed so all that is left is the hanging stuff in our closets and that will be for another day. Today is the Indonesian Crew Show at 3 but in order to get a seat, we will have to be there by 2. Very popular show which our crew puts on for every cruise, the really goes all out for the World. They even have a special drink for the event called the Rasa...

May 12, 2019 - Day at Sea...Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to my two intelligent, beautiful daughters who have been raising their children so well and wonderful. I am a very fortunate woman to have such daughters in my life. I hope you both have a great Mother's Day. Last watercolor class, I will miss it. We have a Mother's Day Brunch today. Diane made reservations for all of us for 11 am, then our last Pinnacle Dinner tonight at 8 pm. Looking forward to both. Nothing else except Dad finally won at the casino. of course he is still down for the trip but he won today which makes...

May 11, 2019 - Day at Sea

Weather is getting worse, we are tossing and turning in this huge depression. Can't sleep, up at 4:50 am...crazy! It is now 7 am, we are up, dressed and still tossing around. Difficult to dress unless you are sitting down, difficult to walk, you have to let the ship guide you. Ready for breakfast though, talk later. Captain Jonathan has changed course four times to keep us as comfortable as possible during this storm; we are weaving our way home. He does say we should arrive on time. Breakfast was a treat. dishes crashing behind the serving...

May 10, 2019 - Day at Sea

Today is a quiet day. I went to watercolor class and then spent most of the day finishing paintings. I finished my puffin, another troll for the Bensens, my flowers and my swan. So soon I will be able to pack up all this stuff and art supplies for home, but not yet. We still have two more lessons to go before we end the classes. Carol has been a great teacher and very patient with my heavy handed style of painting. Although I am learning, I have a long, long way to go. But I will miss watercolors and Carol very much. I have really felt...

May 8, 2019 - Day at Sea

May 8th....first of 8 days at sea Today we finally could slow down and relax as this begins our 8 days at sea while crossing to the USA. Watercolor class was first on my list for the things to do. While Dad and I were eating breakfast, the intercom came on requesting a female passenger report to the front desk immediately, then about 10 minutes later the same announcement was made. We knew something was up and something was very wrong as they never use the intercom to call for a passenger except in an extreme emergency or while in port to...

May 7, 2019 - Bantry, Ireland

Surrounded by the craggy Caha Mountains. Bantry is a small town situated at the head of the largest inlet or natural harbor in Europe. Because of this wide area of water, the locals can grow rope mussels throughout this area and we saw a lot of them. This is why we have to tender into shore so we do not disturb the mussels as they are growing on the ropes. We have seen this before not not in such magnitude as this. Bantry is a quaint town with very friendly people. We did a walk about and shopped in their stores. Dad bought two sweaters and...

May 6, 2019 - Cobh (Cork), Ireland

What a pretty sail in this morning. Cobh is a natural port and it was here the RMS Titanic made its last stop to pick up passengers before sailing to its fate. The air was a cool 42 degrees, but the view was really pretty. We are in a new area of Ireland for us. Our shuttle will take us to Cork and we understand the Corkonians are fiercely proud of their hometown so much so as they speak of it as the People's Republic of Cork. They also tell us it is the real capital of Ireland, not Dublin. Cork dates back to the 7th century and flourished...
