Apr 25, 2016 - Cedar Island, NC: Ferry

We wanted to use the ferry system to get to our next real destination on the Outer Banks (OBX). It was a longish drive from Myrtle Beach to Cedar Island, NC but we got there by mid afternoon and went in to get a ferry reservation for the 10 am ferry the next day. Each rig, pulling a car, is considered a "triple" and they had only 5 slots left vs the 2 triples (6 slots) needed for us. But there were 18 motorcycles reserved and they take less space than a single so they booked us as a triple and double in order to bypass the computer limits...

2016 Summer Trip

Apr 23, 2011 - Cedar Island, NC

We were back on the road today, leaving behind Myrtle Beach, and riding along the coastline, through Wilmington, Surf City, Jaksonville, Atlantic Beach, Beaufort and finally arrived at Cedar Island, North Carolina. The ride was slow, but the scenery was something else. We stayed at the Driftwood Motel, a little motel right beside the Ferry landing. We walked over the sand dunes behind the hotel, and there were miles and miles of nice sandy beaches. This was the start of our ride across the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

Apr 7, 2009 - Sea Level, North Carolina

This morning, we went through the routine again of packing up and heading out and this time, all systems were go. John was able to have one last morning on the beach at sunrise before getting ready to leave. -- We headed north on Highway 17 through the rest of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. It is much bigger than we discovered while we were here since we did not come to this part of town. I can see why this area is such a huge attraction for families with kids. There are two huge water parks and many miniature golf parks and kid...

Pretty Damn Nice!

May 8, 2008 - Core Sound

Cape Lookout and the Core Banks - Thursday, May 8 We woke to a beautiful sunny morning and returned to the marsh trail to walk the long loop. It has a different mood, in the daytime, but still lovely and serene. The fiddler crabs were out in force and the mud flat was alive with thousands of them. The wind was roughing up the water of the White Oak River. The blown over tree stumps are interesting. Their roots are very shallow and there is no tap root at all. The entire root structure is horizontal and only about a foot below the surface,...

2008 Keys 2 Canada

Jun 22, 2007 - Cedar Island, NC, Driftwood

Hi Everybody, Ok, here's the best piece of advice we could give anybody, don't ever come to Cedar Island, Driftwood RV Campground. This place is the worst we've ever been in, it's filthy, soooo hot and would you believe our site is right next to the stables. You know, rent horses, ride on the beach, yada yada. The bottom line is, even though we are literally right out on the point of this island and you should be able to breathe in beautiful fresh salt air, but instead you get horse dodo, yuck, yuck. The only reason we decided to do this...
