Sep 18, 2015 - Beaches

We have visited a couple more lakeside parks. On Wednesday we went to Sodus Point Beach Park and today we visited Fair Haven Beach State Park. Both parks offered opportunity for a decent hike along the water. Sodus Point has a pier and a short sand beach that quickly deteriorates into a rocky shore. Fair Haven has a campground on a bluff and a concrete half-mile long walkway onto a pier. Not far from Sodus Point we found Burnap Farms where we had a nice lunch on a patio overlooking the farm. We had an opportunity to meet a couple of goats...

Sep 14, 2015 - Chimney Bluffs and Apples

Since we are going to be here an extra week we’ll have a chance to explore a bit of the area. We are on the southern shore of Lake Ontario and in the midst of apple growing country. There are lots of farms in the area and we have seen corn, soy beans, grapes and some other crops. But by far the dominant crop is apples. There are several large farms each featuring their own store. Wolcott is a one-stoplight typical eastern farming community. Today we made the short drive to Chimney Bluffs State Park. The three of us enjoyed a nice two-mile...

Sep 3, 2015 - Wolcott

We have moved further east and are now in Wolcott, NY about halfway between Syracuse and Rochester. I am scheduled for a half marathon in Syracuse on the 12th. Wolcott is very near Lake Ontario so hopefully we will find some fun things to do here. So far we have done only a little exploring as we searched for a restaurant. Downtown Wolcott has a nice little waterfall, there is Chimney Bluffs State Park, and Sodus Bay. Last night we found Connelly’s Cove, a waterfront restaurant on Sodus Bay, where we had a lovely outdoors fish dinner. There...

Sep 21, 2011 - Day 23

Today we drove from Lazy Lakes RV Resort to Cherry Grove campground in Wolcott, NY, about 35 miles east of Rochester, NY. Shortly after getting under way, in a fairly rural area, we encountered an abrubt noise from underneath the coach. After looking under the hood and then underneath, I found a bucket had been blown under the coach and was partially crushed under the frame. Backing up slightly allowed me to free it and the lady at the house came out and took it away for me. Eddi took a picture of the fire hydrant beside her driveway. After...

We found another nice campground in the Cherry Grove Campground in Wolcott, NY. Wolcott is within ten miles of the Lake Ontario shore. We were limited to a three-day visit. The highlight was our visit to Chimney Bluff State Park an the shore. The weather was great and we had a nice hike and picnic. Arnie enjoyed the hike, the lunch, and a brief swim in Ontario. Niagara Falls is next!

Jul 14, 2007 - Almost into the wilderness

Hello from the almost in the wilderness twosome-Today {Sat. 7-14} finds us in Wolcott, NY. To catch you up to date- we left Grand Island, NY on Wed. morning with Fran dreading the bridge off the island. Luckily, the bike decided to take her mind off that and it went left and she went right on the ground outside of the campground. More scars-mostly bruises on left knee-something to whine about-poor Greg. Come to find out the sidewalk access to the bridge was closed so we had to 'portage' our bikes and gear over the guardrail onto the bridge...
