Sep 30, 2016 - Westfield NY

We arrived at the campground around 3 pm which is our normal time to get off the road. We did cover some miles today but it was all 4 lane road so we made good time. We plan on driving to Westfield NY to a KOA and spend the night and make it home tomorrow.

Aug 4, 2013 - Lincoln's Beard

You may have heard about the little girl who advised Abraham Lincoln to grow a beard because she thought he would look better with one with his thin face. She thought it might help him get more votes. He took her advice and the rest is history. That story is immortalized in a statue in a park in the town of Westfield, not far from here. Since the Chautauqua main church service wasn't until 10:45 this morning, we decided to drive there to see it. The little girl's name was Grace Bedell. After Lincoln's election and before he took office as...

Jul 27, 2013 - New Hampshire to Lake Erie, NY

Saturday, July 17th As planned, we started our first travel day early, 6:05am, and arrived at Westfield - Lake Erie KOA, NY at 4:30pm. It was an uneventful trip, the only delays going westward were at the toll booths, having EZ-Pass was a big help. After parking and hooking up the motorhome, we walked to the state park across from the campground to get a look at Lake Erie. A light rain and cloud cover prevented us from seeing very much. A loud noise developed in the overhead front cabinet. While we can’t tell what’s causing it, at lower...

Jul 15, 2013 - Westfield-Lake Erie

We had an easy drive today (but an expensive one in tolls) on I-90 across NY state. I read some information about the Erie Canal to Clarence as we were able to see parts of it along this route. There are 36 locks that connect 363 miles of waterway from Albany, NY to Buffalo. Construction began in 1817 with German, Irish, and British immigrants providing he labor. They dug it with shovels and horse power earning them 80 cents a day.It is the most successful human built waterway and tranverses a total elevation differentiation of 556 feet. We...

Jun 10, 2013 - Long Drive to Westfield, NY

A pretty drive, mostly through Ohio today. Lots of farmland and lush green trees. Toledo was a cinch to get through and Cleveland gave us a little trouble, but no wrong turns, so it's all good! A stop for lunch at a rest stop and into PA for a short stint, then on to New York and Westfield. A bit sprinkly and muddy, but Topper and I took a couple of walks across the street at the park right above the shoreline of Lake Erie. Very pretty!

Sep 28, 2011 - Westfield NY

Nothing interesting to report today – today was kind of a down day. We hung around here most of the day doing some online financial stuff, I defrosted the freezer, and then we took off on the Seaway Trail (Hwy 5) south along Lake Erie to Erie PA. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Erie PA, go to the dentist instead - at least that’s our opinion. Nothing to see or do there but at least we can check Erie PA off our bucket list. Not that it was ever really on there, but you get the point. After we got home I made some mediocre chili,...

Sep 27, 2011 - Westfield NY

Got on the road at noon to Niagara Falls and following a short stop at WalMart in Fredonia NY, and a trip through beautiful Buffalo NY, we pulled into the Niagara Falls State Park at 2:00 under the same gray skies that we have had for a few days. The American side of the falls is in, conveniently, the town of Niagara Falls NY and it is, as Archie Bunker would say, a “terlet” – very run down and dirty. The only nice area that we saw is the State Park itself. On the American side you basically walk to both falls and see them from the sides....

Sep 26, 2011 - Westfield NY

The rain started about 10:00 last night and didn’t stop until we were east of Cleveland at about 1:30 this afternoon. We got gas at about 11:00 this morning and where it had been $3.24 the night before it was now $3.18. Sweet – we love it when that happens; it just doesn’t happen often. We headed east on I-80 until just west of Cleveland where we split off onto I-90 which runs through Cleveland and along Lake Erie, through a corner of PA to our current campsite in Westfield NY. Westfield is SW of Buffalo and across the street from Lake...

Aug 15, 2008 - Day 125 Westfield NY

Day 125 Friday 15th August Westfield NY pg 70 NL 1 Today’s drive was interesting as we travelled thru several states. We drove along the edge of Lake Erie along Rte 6 – we had anticipated wonderful views of the Lake, but once again the Lakes edge is privately owned and very little public access. For morning tea we pulled into a parking area at West Beach, Lakeside in Lorain County. Here there were people walking along the beach and already swimming, it was a beautiful warm day, just the weather for it. Beside the beach there were some...

Well what a strange day yesterday! Lovely trip, made good time and headed for the first Walmart we had decided to stay in over the past 12 months...can you tell the money is rapidly running out!!! Off we went to do our shopping before going into Canada only to be told that they didn't allow RV's to park over night!! We ahd looked on the internet as well and it said that RV's could stay at that one so we were a little stuck as it was 9pm on a Friday night!! Found a campground 19 miles away, rang them up and they said they had a couple of...

Jul 16, 2008 - R U Ready for some FOOTBALL...ART !?!?!?!?!?!

Today was another "DOTR". We headed to Cleveland, Ohio to visit Sunnyside Honda. Art and Tom Kirlough are in the same 20 Group together. We had a nice tour of Sunnyside Honda. Tom had hooked up a windshield repair man to come and fix Margarita's poor blemish. In the meantime, Alli, Spencer, Chester and myself were spoiled with nice treats of warm cookies, popcorn, muffins, lemonade and an August issue of Cosmo!!! Mom is happy, if they add a Spa in their Honda store, I'll be buying my next Honda there!!! Thanks Tom for your kindness and...
