Sep 12, 2016 - Lake George Escape, Warrensburg, NY

This drive was another nice short drive of only 136 mile directly north. The Lake George Escape Resort is on the edge of the Adirondacks. We've wanted to come here for years, finally we're here. This stay is only for 6 days so we have to be efficient with our time and see the highlights. At his point, I'm sure we'll want to come back at a later date for a much longer tour. The RV park itself is an amazing place. It has 683 spaces, ponds and is next to the Schroon River! When we checked-in, they assigned us to a space, way far away from all...

Sep 15, 2015 - Goodbye to the Summer

We finally managed to schedule some time to visit Bret and family out in Arcata. Between their schedules and ours it isn’t easy to pin down a week when we can actually spend some time together. So we flew out from Albany directly to Arcata which was a real treat; after flying across the country it is hard to make that drive from San Francisco to Arcata which is about 300 miles. Usually the flight up there is about the same cost as the flight from the east, but for some reason it was actually reasonable this time. We stayed right in town at...

Aug 23, 2015 - More Time in the Mountains

Things have been quiet since our family get-together at Lake George. We have enjoyed not having to schedule everything around doctor’s appointments and have decided it is time to push ourselves a little to be more active. So we got a couple of fitbits and have been doing our best to make at least 10,000 steps a day. It doesn’t happen without a little extra push but we have certainly enjoyed our hikes and Suzie is in seventh heaven getting to dig chipmunks out of every hole in the woods. We try to find hikes which do not involve climbing...

Aug 4, 2015 - Great Summer so Far

I know I have been remiss on keeping this journal up to date, but I will try and get back on track. We drove over to Boston (in the car) to meet Terra who flew in from California to visit some colleges and participate in a soccer camp. She came in on a redeye, but was determined to stay up so she could get back onto a regular schedule. So the first day we visited Suffolk University which is right in the heart of the tourist area of Boston, about 2 blocks from Quincy Market. It is a very interesting school with dorms and classroom buildings...

Jun 27, 2015 - Pictures Uploaded!

Actually got some pictures to upload! We are currently at my sister's house in New Jersey, enjoying her beautiful big house and taking care of her dog. Suzie loves it as there is a fenced back yard and doggie door, and there are even squirrels and chipmunks. We spent last week with Terra, taking her to a soccer camp at Tufts, and checking out a couple other colleges in which she is interested. So a few days in Boston, a few days back at the motorhome, and a trip over to Ithaca, NY and then here to NJ. I think she was ready to go home but...

Jun 16, 2015 - Home, Home on the River

We are all settled in here in Warrensburg, right on the banks of the Schroon River, and about 5 miles north of Lake George Village and about 10 miles from my Dad. It has all worked out very well, but I can’t say it is quite summer yet. There have been a couple of days in the 80’s, but not many and we have had quite a bit of rain. After wintering in El Centro where is was at least 80 most every day during the winter and the rain amounted to about a thimble full the whole time we were there, this is not real uplifting. We had hoped to be...

Sep 4, 2012 - Chore Day

We did laundry, cleaned, defrosted the freezer and filled the tires. We did get to go out to lunch to a cute place called New Way Lunch which has been making hot dogs (similar to Varsity dogs) since 1919. They were yummy as were the onion rings. A gteat place.

Sep 2, 2012 - Erie Canal and Howes Caverns

Today we started our journey headed south to the town of Waterman. We were searching for the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway which was supposed to follow the old towpath for the Erie Canal. We asked various people and none could direct us but we did finally find a map that had it on it. We did find it but it was not much to see. However, while we were in Waterman we saw and old canal boat and got to see one of the many locks. Giving up on following the Scenic Byway, we headed to Howes Caverns. They have a neat outside activity area with zip...

Sep 1, 2012 - Fort Ticonderoga and the Adirondacks

We started our day driving along Lake George north to Fort Ticonderoga which sits on a spit of land between Lake George and Lake Champlain, making it a very strategic location back in the Revolutionary period. The fort was built by the French then captured by the British. Ethan Alan, Benidict Arnold and the Green Mountain Boys captured it as the first victory of the Revolutionary War. It was later retaken by the British then fell to ruin and was reconstructed in the 1900's. There is a nice view of Lake Champlain from the fort. We toured the...

Jul 18, 2010 - Day 35

Today we said our “good-byes” and there were hugs all around. So sad to be leaving, yet happy to be back on the road. We drove a back road - highway 8 - through upstate NY and it was lovely. It was a winding mountain road with beautiful lakes, rivers and the ever-present wildflowers. We went through Rome, Poland, Russia, Norway and even a street called Egypt. We sure did get around the world quickly. We are currently spending the night in Phelps, NY and should be in Niagara Falls tomorrow.

Jul 17, 2010 - Days 32, 33 & 34 - July 15, 16 & 17, 2010

The days are running together. Rained most of the day on the 16th and the humidity was stifling. Folks in AZ need not be envious of the “cooler” eastern weather. It’s brutal and the a/c just can’t keep up with the humidity. We seem to spend most of the day visiting, cooking, eating and sightseeing. Everyone has arrived safely and the younger folks are having a great time tubing, swimming, etc. The night of the 16th my nephews, Nick and John, set up a projector to show movies for the little ones and before long most of the kids in the...
