Jun 12, 2013 - Erie Canal Lock #20 - About 10 mi. east of Rome, NY

June 2nd Maggie arrived in Brewerton, NY to help in the final stages of getting ready for the trip. There already accumulated enough laundry to start out with a trip to the laundromat (Maggie's favorite hangout - NOT). Then hopping around town - PetSmart, PetCo, Pet Groomer and then a few places for Roger's & Maggie's needs, ha. We needed a new WiFi module. Three big shopping days at Wegman's, a fantabulous Grocery chain in the northeast. Roger was still running endless trips to hardware and electronic stores. A couple evenings we had...

Sep 5, 2012 - Start.Stop.Coast. Reverse. No go...hmm. Problem...

We were in great shape... ready to roll just before 8 AM...everything disconnected, kids either asleep or done breakfast (bet you can figure out which ones were still sleeping!) and puppy settled in. Put RV into gear, with her nice full fuel tank, and headed up the driveway, only to coast back down as though we were in neutral just as we began climbing the first (small) grade. Into reverse, to take a 'run' at the slight grade- puzzling!! Traveled just fine in reverse, put her back into drive...and *nothing*! Neutral sent us backwards!...

Jul 27, 2012 - Dinner In Utica-Aqua Vino-fantstic!!!

Been on the road for 5 1/2 hours. all going very well with the exception of extremely lousy roads in Pa. Planned stop in Utica, originally for lunch however due to the oops in Ephrata with the hitch getting stuck we ended up 3 hours behind. Aqua Vino Restaurant Excellent place to eat. Located along the Erie Canal. Beautiful setting, nice temperatures, fantastic food. Lots of seafood selections as well as duck, pork chops and chicken and steaks. Having internet connectivity issues, despite my hotspot (sucks!!)

Jun 30, 2012 - Day two was not as good as day one

Well our day began with a casualty. My laptop screen met an untimely death. It got cracked down the whole left side. This happened not too long after I accidentally erased all but 12 of the 110 pictures from the first day. With all the recovery programs out there we hope to restore pictures after laptop is fixed. I will not be able to post more pictures until we get to nova scotia and a working computer. we were on the road nice and early thanks to the truckers who greet eachother in the mornings at the truck stop. This was a good wake up...

Jun 29, 2012 - 1st day on the road successful

We began our journey ahead of schedule pulling out of the driveway at 8am. It was a good thing we did so as I (Angela) realized that my license was in the bottom of the stroller that was sitting in our garage. It was just about the time we pulled through the construction spot on South Grimsby Road 6 that I made this realization. Needless to say after we obtained the license we did not take the same route back to the highway. Can you imagine what the road workers would be thinking? Uh Bob, didnt we just see that rig? Uh ya, George, I think...

Oct 22, 2010 - West Canada Wilderness overnighter

West Canada Wilderness, 9 October 2010 With all the work hours it seemed as if I was never going to have time to pack for a trip to the west canada wilderness lakes. Couldnt leave Friday as planned, so I took off on Saturday morning instead. Checked my pack list 10 times at least. It was only an overnight, but i was so afraid of not having something I needed, that i fell into the "overthinking" mode. Unpacked and repacked. Pack weighed in at 42 lbs. That included food, 6 lbs of water in the camelback, the eureka tent, air matress, and...

Aug 12, 2010 - New Page!

New page, new stuff, better map! Get Jealous only made me jealous of other websites with better maps. I could tie a crayon to a squirrels butt & get a better topo, so off in search I went. Which, led me here. So there. So far I have compiled a list of all the clothing, camping, and some food necessities i'll need to carry. This list is the first shot outta the barrel so i'm sure to make changes & continue to fine tune. Speaking of fine tuning, been picking up the exercise routine a bit more lately, and I've discovered a few solid facts,...

Aug 2, 2010 - Way Point Funk

As I sit here at work today, my brain goes on overload for the A.T. while telling my Army buddy Ted Ossant and his daughter Sarah about the A.T. plan & how its all coming into focus. Still have plenty of gear issues to work out, such as: New Fart Sack; Exchange Pack from Beans for something better fitting my current round shape; Pick up the hubba Hubba tent from Aerwhon Sports; begin working the packing list; pick up all the guides for each state; plan out my food drying & then execute it; plan the food period...maybe; select the superb...

Day 175 Saturday 4th October Utica NY pg 71 NI 15 Well after a good nite’s sleep, plus a nice cooked breaky of eggs and bacon, guess where we headed, yep back up the hill to the Museum. We were both so excited to be returning; well at least one out of two was really excited!! All Steve kept saying was, I hope it opens at 9am and not 10am…. Ah uh, a glimmer of hope Upon arriving we walked up to the entrance around 9.15am and guess what, there is a God; it didn’t open until 10am … YES!! No, he wanted to wait, bugger. Guess what, he didn’t...

Jul 31, 2008 - Day 1

We left Naperville bright eyed and bushy tailed at 4:45 a.m. central time, well one of us. Today was our longest travel day. We drove for 12 hours and went through 5 states. Illinois was uneventful, Indiana was very foggy, Ohio was ohiolike, Pennsylvania was gone through very quickly and New York was beautiful with rolling hills and vineyards! We arrived in Utica, NY at about 6:00 p.m. eastern time. We dined at the lovely Utica Pizza Hut where they took 25% off our bill because the waitress typed in our order wrong and while we were waiting...
