We met my parents over the weekend at Sampson State Park, NY. It sits on Seneca Lake, one of the finger lakes. It was used as a Naval Training base during WWII and then as an Air Force Training base during the Korean War. The Air Force turned the base over to NY state as a park after the Korean War. There is a Navy and Air Force Museum in the park which talked about basic training during WWII and Korea. My Mom's uncle and cousins live in Waterloo, NY which is a short drive from the park. We invited all of them (over 20) to our camp site...

Aug 4, 2006 - History of the area

We explored the area yesterday and today. We visited the Wings of Eagles Museum in Corning near the airport where Larry enjoyed sitting in a Phantom & a Tomcat, among others. We lunched at Chilis and drove around the other side of the lake up to the city of Geneva. Along the way we saw such beautiful farmland, an Amish community and country store, a Meadery (a winery that makes honey fruit wine) and other wineries. It was a hot steamy day - again. Today we took Gidget to the local Vet for her annual checkup & vaccinations in the local town...

Jul 31, 2006 - NY Finger Lakes

Our map function cannot map the roads we take from place to place, it only shows a direct line from our last location to current place. Sorry. We are back up in New York again to see the Finger Lakes. They are between Rochester and Syracuse in mid-state. It is extremely humid and very hot. Tuesday's weather forecast is for 95-100 and there are heat warnings due to the humidity. It makes the heat more dangerous because you can't cool your body by sweating. So we are going to delay our hiking a couple days. There are many trails here and...
