Jul 16, 2013 - OK, let's start this again...

OK, let's start this again... tomorrow!!!!! Yeah and hip hip hooray too!!!!!! Roger is going to scrub the boat stem to stern in celebration. No small job with all the clean up, lawn mowing and earth moving going on at Lock #16. We ground a lot of dirt into poor Dande Girl. This past weekend the powers that be told us we'd be able to go through all the locks on Thursday the 18th. We didn't want to put our hopes too high because we've had several disappointments on this trip. Last night the Lockmaster told us we would be able to leave...

Jul 8, 2013 - Lock # 16 - Mindenville, NY - No progress on trip

We are continuing to have the best care possible for the situation. Our host, the Great State of New York, is tending to our needs. They have been pumping our heads, supplying us with fresh water and almost daily giving us progress reports. One of our lockmasters, Scott, lets us use his old "beater" to drive into town to shop and do laundry. However, there really isn't any good travel news to report at this time. The authorities don't speak in terms of days. They talk in terms of weeks. It makes our hearts sink. Steve, one of the boaters,...

Jun 30, 2013 - Fort Plain YouTube video of Flash Flooding

We found this video on YouTube about the massive flooding in Fort Plain, about 10-12 miles from here. Here's the website that you'll have to copy and paste... http://youtu.be/UlzTsKoNM-Y Fort Plain is a town that we were in several days ago and we had to backtrack because we were in need of supplies, water, head pump-out. We walked these streets in the small town with the horse and buggies. We had a great meal at the "TABLE" restaurant which you will see in one of the photos. I think the elderly lady at the end of the slide show went...

Jun 28, 2013 - Lock #16 - Northeast of St. Johnsville

You are NOT gonna believe this update. It’s a whopper!! Several days ago we went back a step, figuratively speaking, to St. Johnsville, to partake of the benefits of a marina. Pump the head, Dollar General, laundry, schedule maintenance on our failing water pump - UGH! We were excited about the completed repairs & reopening of locks #15 thru #8. Then the weather bureau issued severe storms and flash flood warnings for the next few days so the Canal authorities withdrew their opening and told us we had to high tail it back through #16 where...

Aug 19, 2012 - And we're OFF!! (Finally!!)

We were up bright and early, dogs went out, breakfast was eaten, and somehow it was still 9:30 by the time we were ready for our departure photo. A couple of errands on the way out (including delivering food for Foxy!), put us on the highway around 10:15 AM. Eden was outfitted in her new wrist brace, and though she likes it, she still finds her wrist uncomfortable. Sure hope she didn’t break it on Friday – but we’ll keep it immobilized, and see how things resolve. Good thing we have ibuprofen along. Her cold, however, is not improving, and...
