Sep 7, 2016 - Richfield Springs, NY

Sept 7 Overnight in KOA Cooperstown, NY The West has RV parks; the Midwest and East have Camping Areas! One of my pet peeves is when RV Parks/Camping Areas claiming they are in one city when they are not. According the KOA brochure and website the city was Cooperstown and when I checked MapQuest Cooperstown was 14 miles away. A short way down the road was a sign for Springfield, yet per WeatherBug we were in Warren. With all this confusion I decided that the KOA was in Richfield Springs as that's what Scott listed on his itinerary, and the...

Aug 24, 2012 - Homeward bound

After our busy day in Niagara Falls, we were up and ready to continue our trip east. We traveled approximately 220 miles today towards eastern New York. The drive along I-90 was uneventful. The kids watched another movie, they really have been wonderful travelers. We stopped at a service area off I-90 for our picnic lunch, it seems to be getting warmer the further east we travel. We left the major highway and headed south on Rt 28 to Rt 20 east to our last campsite in Richfield Springs, NY. Cooperstown, where the baseball hall of fame is...

Heading West

Jul 29, 2010 - Day 139 - Glued to the computer

I spent the entire day downloading those gazillion baseball photos and then searching and securing reservations. I was really behind myself in the 'organizational' category, but feel much better now. Hunter and I took walks during the day as he got really bored looking at my back. I love this place. I don't know if it's the park and the fact that I'm not squeezed in by others, or that it's simply a nice park which happens to be situated in just a wonderful environment. I love the corn fields, the weeds which are filled with wild flowers...

Jul 28, 2010 - Day 138 - Cooperstown, baseball and farmers

Talk about timing! I watched an old movie on Turner Classics last night about Grover Cleveland Alexander - pitcher pre and post WWI for three big league teams and won the 7th game in the World Series in the 9th inning against the Yankees. Ronald Reagan played Grover…Doris Day played his wife. I had never heard of Alexander but felt pretty confident I’d find him today in the Hall of Fame. Sure enough, I did, and a few others. If you’re a die-hard baseball fan, you could spend a week there and still hunger for more. You could probably die...

Jul 27, 2010 - Day 137 - stayed close to home

I have spent most of last night and today trying to download pictures and get my journal up to date. I apologize for the gap and lack of updates...I had no service whatsoever at Moosehead Lake and poor to no service since then. It's not perfect here and sometimes throws me offline, but compared to the past two weeks it's a pleasure. I'm able to post pics...sometimes after a few tries. It's time consuming, but I need to catch up before I change locations again. Thanks for worrying about me (those who did :-)) and for being patient. I have...

Jul 26, 2010 - Day 136 - Middle New York

Middle New York? Yep...that's where I'm going to find Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame! There are a few Halls of Fame on my trip and I've looked forward to all of them. I look forward to this one to get to know Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, DiMaggio...all the greats of yesteryears, a little bit better than the little I know. I drove on a great highway from the Adirondacks to Saratoga Springs and then hit tiny country roads again, making the trip wonderful...and slow. I'm staying in Richfield Springs, another KOA, about 10 miles from...

Oct 19, 2008 - Hungry in Herkimer

Crazy Otto’s Empire Diner - Sunday, October 19 We thought it was cold Saturday night, but it got even colder last night. The temperature bottomed out at 22 this time - the coldest night we’ve had so far. The problem is not staying warm ourselves, but keeping the RV water system from freezing. So far the warmth inside has kept that from happening, but there has to be a point where it will be just too cold for that to work. We haven’t reached that point yet, but if we don’t get farther south we soon will. The temperature was back in the 30’s...

Aug 30, 2008 - Back to the USA

Cooperstown KOA-Richfield Springs, NY We got up this morning at 0730 so we could get started for the Rainbow bridge. We got to the beginning of the backup at 1010. We got thru the US checkpoint at 1115. That went well..we were asked some routine questions and the agent went back and looked at the car apparently. When he came back to the booth, holding our passports in his hand, he asked "If I look in your bathroom, will I find Fidel Castro?" My first reaction was to give him some kind of smart alec answer but I thought better of it, and...
