Sep 19, 2013 - Lucille Ball's birthplace

Oh, what a beautiful and easy 133 miles we had today to move from LeRoy to Randolph, NY near Jamestown, NY. We, as usual, had Rebecca start out with Dave finishing up the days drive. We took back highways through farmlands and country we'd never seen the likes of, before. Our route followed the Genesee River going due South then once on I-86 West we picked up the Allegheny River and followed it. The little town of Randolph is not far from our targeted tour town of Jamestown. We'll be staying at the Pope Haven campground, a Passport America...

Sep 18, 2011 - Randolph, New York

We traveled 308 miles to Randolph, New York and stayed at a campground on the Amish trail out in the country. We could have made it all the way home but we decided that we would stay out one last night and have the black and gray tanks emptied before arriving home.

Sep 24, 2010 - More birds and buggies

We've been here in southwestern New York for the past 2 nights, after a rainstorm kept us looking at tourist information in the freeway rest stop a few miles into NY from Penn. The view from the rest stop, between raindrops, was of the beautiful Lake Chautauqua. Linda found some information on Jamestown (about 15 miles from where we are staying) including the new Roger Tory Peterson Institute's home (he was a premiere birder and originator of the modern field guides to birds and all things nature) and the Jamestown Audubon Society preserve....

Sep 20, 2009 - Last morning

Woke up to a nice clear crisp morning. It was about 40 when we got up but the sun made it feel much warmer. Had a nice pancake and sausage breakfast with coffee and juice. Then some visiting and we slowly started to pack up and leave. Bonnie had a meeting at the Chapel in Getzville so she left before me. When I looked over the MH to put the slides in I noticed that the awning had lost all its tension. Looks like the spring broke so I have a project to get done before the next trip. I think it will be an easy fix once I get the part. Then...

Sep 19, 2009 - Saturday Chapter 12

Got up to a nice cool camper 47 degrees, I had left some windows open by mistake. It was much warmer in the bedroom with the doors closed. I got up and started the furnace and made some hot chocolate. We ate breakfast all together. The host couple made eggs, biscuits and gravy and then the Amish man came and we all got pies, pastries and donuts so our bellies were full. Bonnie went to garage sales with a couple and then when she got back we went to visit a few Amish shops and also a friend that used to live in Java. Talked to him while they...

Sep 18, 2009 - Enroute Pope Haven

Hope to be in camp by 3:00PM. Plan is to get a fish fry tonight and then visit the Amish shops that surround the area tomorrow. Six couples made it and many are new people for us to meet. We start with appetizers around 3pm and then off to town for a fish fry. We rode with a couple and missed a turn on the way back. So I used google maps on my blackberry to get back to the campground, sure gets dark early now days. The campfire was going and I enjoyed that until about 11 then a good night sleep. Nice quiet campground.
