Jul 4, 2015 - Finger Lakes Region

John Here: From Woodstock we worked our way up to the Finger Lakes region for the annual Densmore 4th of July get-together... Sunday 28 (– July 1) Settled into our campsite at Babcock Hollow, about 45 minutes south of Penn Yan, NY. Our site turned out to be their only pull-through (nice), but was basically a very muddy dirt road (not so nice). No TV or WiFi available, so we watched a lot of Red Box movies when it rained! And rained. Spent an interesting afternoon with Dorene and Gordon Pierce who live in Bath, NY and who had invited us to...

Sep 13, 2014 - Can We Adopt Them?

9/13/2014. Saturday. Can We Adopt Them? Again, this morning it was cold and rainy. The chill just goes to the bone. Anita set up ourselves heater and it warmed the place up nicely even with Enya firmly planted in front of warming herself. We bundled up and headed out for another adventure this time to the Windmill Craft and Farm Market in Penn Yan, NY. The GPS took us through country road amidst rolling hills for a beautiful, misty 45 minute drive to Penn Yan ( funny name!). The Windmill Market consisted of large buildings that houses...

BLOG FIFTEEN - This is a quick one. FRIDAY – 09 Nov 13 The second half of our trip starts today. Brekkie downstairs and then a five minute walk straight to our flight to Toronto. It was a good flight and lucky we decided to pick Westjet. The AirCanada flight at the same time was cancelled and a heap of travellers jumped to our flight making it a very full flight. We arrived slightly ahead of time and grabbed our bags from the flight and also the bag we left in storage and caught a taxi into the city to pick up our hire car. The taxi driver...

Jul 8, 2012 - Cananadaigua & Penn Yan, NY

We drove to Cananadaigua, Penn Yan and Geneva. We continued driving around the finger lakes enjoying the scenery, we saw some Amish enjoying their sunday gathering at a local farm. We stopped at Geneva On The Lake, a 5 start hotel on Seneca Lake in Geneva, NY. A rather unusual hotel, they wasn't any lobby, an office that handled only check-ins. There was a dining room, but other than that the interior was not what we expected. The exterior and grounds were very impressive and the view from the cliff of Seneca Lake was exceptional. This is a...

Jun 15, 2009 - Finger Lakes

We are at the Finger Lakes in central New York state. We have been hearing about this area for years and decided to spend a few days here. This is wine country and vineyards are everywhere. The countryside is pretty in a bucolic way; but the lakes are a little too over-developed (at least by Maine standards). This is our last major stopover on the run for home.....and it's a good thing, for we have developed both car and RV problems (i.e., this a.m. the slide out on the trailer would not retract and we had to have a service guy come out and...
