Aug 7, 2013 - Feeling blessed today

We've had some warm, sunny days here and no rain since last Thursday. Knowing that Salt Springs is still in their hot & humid mode, we're glad for the cool evenings and crisp mornings as we sit and have our first cup of coffee. Yesterday we spent time with Rich's childhood friend and his wife. They met us on their front porch with large smiles, big hugs, and optimistic outlooks. It was wonderful to sit and chat with them again. Their world, however, is limited by their mobility and health problems; however, they don't let it get them down...

Summer 2013 Stories

Aug 4, 2013 - Snakes Alive

Happy August everyone! We’re getting a good variety of weather here in upstate New York and glad of it since hearing that Salt Springs is at 95*. A couple of weeks ago we arrived in time for the heat wave; now, we’re digging in the closet for our flannel shirts and raincoats. But, all is well and no complaints as it’s supposed to get to 71 today, and the sun is trying it’s best to win over the clouds. I think the locals know we’re from Florida though as the majority of our neighbors are in tank tops and shorts – hardy souls up here!! (yes,...

Summer 2013 Stories

Aug 2, 2012 - Bass Lake Resort

You may notice that I'm still behind in keeping you all up to date. One of the primary reasons has been the high heat and high humidity. It's been mighty uncomfortable! The last several days, even the locals have been complaining about unseasonable extremes. And speaking of extremes, this area can get several feet of snow every winter. A few years ago they recieved 144" in 3 days! Yesterday, a thunderstorm blew through which brought much drier weather behind it. So today, with dry and reasonable temperatures, we drove down to Syracuse to...

Dream On

Oct 1, 2010 - Where in the World is Parish, NY

Finally on the road, again, traveling through Pennsylvania and into New York. What beautiful country and the colors are robust and beautiful. Tonight we are camping in Parish, NY, south of Lake Ontario, near Oswego. After we got set up, we took a short walk around the grounds, a very nice campground. However, we had to go to the clubhouse for internet, and it was super slow, so not able to get our blog updated, will try again at our next opportunity. Everything is still very wet from the rain yesterday.

Sep 5, 2008 - ECRA: Bass Lake Resort

Jenni and I have been members here for two years now. We only got to spend a weekend in May last year when our daughter Rachel graduated from Potsdam (see pictures). Last October I got to spend a week here, but alone... very alone! It was not peak season at all! Anyway, this August Jenni and I were able to spend a week and see what things were really like. We had a great time and would recommend ECRA Bass Lake to anyone interested in a great private resort!

Feb 19, 2008 - October trip alone in the New Rig.

In October I (Dave) took a trip alone to Bass Lake Resort in Parish, NY. I went up to work on some papers toward ordination. I spent a week in rainy weather (though you don't see it here), stomping around in the mud. Actually, I spent most of the time in the camper, making sure everything was working properly. Jenni and I only spent a weekend in it prior to this trip. Let me tell you the story of our new outfit: It was a hot summer day. I had just finished putting up camp with the pop-up. I was worn out and crashed in a chair by the fire...
