Aug 15, 2014 - Ogdensburg, New York

Today was a driving day. Our Tailgunners will leave us today and head to Massachusetts. We will head for Ogdensburg, New York. They worked at the hospital here as traveling nurses a few years ago so knew the area very well. They planned our days while we were here so we saw a lot of things in a short period of time. We really enjoyed their company and want to thank them for all of their input. We hoped to meet up with them again some day. We had very overcast skies and rain at times. We backtracked to Stowe, VT on the Green Mountain Byway...

Jul 30, 2011 - Ogdensburg, NY

July 24, 2011: After depositing our daughter at camp in the Poconos - her second year there and more than happy to go back! As soon as we carried her bags to the cabin - she basically shooed us out the door. We were free! We continued up I-81 through New York. On the way, we decided to stop for ice cream. We found an awesome ice cream shop called Super Cream in Homer, NY. It had tons of softserve flavors (flavored with some kind of syrup), but also quite a few homemade, which we both had - large servings and fairly inexpensive! We arrived...

Road Trip 2011

Apr 26, 2009 - The organizing of the "50th Wild West Adventure"

Well, the trip plans have all been made. It took one weekend and around 10 hours on the Internet to make all the travel plans and reservations. Once the daily schedule was mapped out, Betsy did all the surfing of the net to find places to stay and things to do. The trip looks like it will be a lot of fun, let's hope the spouse is in agreement! Now we wait till the summer and off we go!!

Oct 20, 2007 - Ogdensburg

My parents visited us last weekend. It is nice when my parents come because my Dad insists on paying for every meal and gas. He makes me buy the tickets to get into museums and stuff because I get a military discount (deep down, he's still a cheap bastard). We first went to Ogdensburg on the St. Lawrence River and saw the Frederick Remington Museum. I love his work of the wild west. We then followed the Sea Way Trail along the St. Lawrence River to Cape Vincent and Tippetts Light House. Cape Vincent is where the St. Lawrence River empties...

Jul 11, 2006 - Prescott, Ontario

July 11 - Prescott, Ontario Strolled downtown Stowe in the morning. Found an internet café and a great general store where a few purchases were made. The Metzgers were going to take the ferry across Lake Champlain at Burlington, so we agreed to travel separately but meet up at Grenville Park campground near Prescott. We drove I-89 to Hwy 2 across Grand Isle in the middle of Lake Champlain. We then headed west on Hwy 11 and crossed into Canada at Cornwall. The road were all in great shape. Grenville Park campground is located right on the...

Jul 7, 2006 - Ontario and Niagra Falls

We are in Canada and are staying at a Jellystone Park quite close to the falls. We Had to cross a monster bridge to get here but it was certainly worth it. We checked out the downtown area and the local casino and shops the first night and the next day we visited Niagra on the Lake a most lovely little town. The homes are just unbelievable, not so much restored to their former glory as maintained to perfection. As many times as we have been to the Falls we never investigated this little town and we can't come back! The weather was picture...

Jul 8, 2005 - Seaway Locks to Montreal

On 8 July we covered 70 Nm, said good-bye to the beautiful 1000 Islands and transited the Iroquois lock...all with a 2 knot push on our tail. We anchored Friday night within sight of Eisenhower (US run) locks. It rained hard that night and carried thru to Saturday as we negotiated four more of the big Seaway locks. The two Canadian locks had us taking their lines against the massive walls with smaller craft rafting to our outboard side. We passed some really big "lakers" and are thankful that rules prohibit locking thru with these...
