Aug 6, 2016 - On to Niagara Falls

Yesterday we had a beautiful drive thru the Adirondacks. The day before we got tired of our gps lady saying "Winding road ahead," "left turn ahead," "right turn ahead." Shortly after we hit the road this morning we pulled over & David shut off the curve warning in the gps. Ha! We drove along the "chain of lakes" - their names are actually numbers. We did come across another Long Lake as we left the Adirondacks. Once out of the mountains we passed Civil War & Revolutionary War cemeteries - the history here is amazing but we don't have time...

I was wrong in Saturday's update. Again. The lovely wife let me know that there is apparently another reason to voluntarily go into Buffalo. She found that there is a Frank Lloyd Wright house and it's in a very nice area of the city – who knew? We grabbed some breakfast across the street from the campground, then headed into Buffalo to the Darwin D. Martin house. Frank Lloyd Wright designed the 15,000 square foot home for Darwin Martin, a rich – imagine that – local businessman and his family and construction of the original house was...

If tales of us driving interests you, you're in luck...that's pretty much all we did today. We left Herkimer about 10:30 and after 1 fuel stop and 1 bathroom break for me and the dog, we slid just NE of Buffalo and pulled into our home for 5 nights in beautiful North Tonawanda just about 2:30. Now, I sarcastically say “beautiful” because what we have seen on the way in is nothing special, but the rest of the city may be spectacular. Or not. We got set up, my lovely traveling partner whipped up a great chicken with penne for an early dinner,...

Aug 19, 2014 - No. Tonawanda/Niagara Falls Day 3

Today is Wednesday which is our last day here. We went to Lockport as the brochures indicated there were quite a few things to see there. It is only 14 miles away. Our first stop was the Visitor's Center. We got a map of the town and set out toward the canal which was only one block away. The canal goes right through the middle of town. On the sidewalk we saw several pictures drawn with chalk. The one pictured was one of a couple that were really good. They have a contest every year and the participants vie for the best drawing. Most of...

Aug 18, 2014 - No. Tonawanda/Niagara Falls Day 2

Today we are going to visit Niagara Falls which is what we came for. The tour bus picked us up at 10:45. We did have to pick up people along the way as we were the first ones picked up. As we approached the Rainbow Bridge the traffic was really backed up. It took us almost an hour to cross the bridge which was a little frustrating. At least we didn't have to do the driving. We toured the underground tunnels first. The portal observations were a waste of time as far as we were concerned. The observation deck off of the tunnel was a different...

We decided to have the $3 pancake breakfast this morning before leaving so we didn't get to our campground too early. We expected to be there within 1 1/2 hrs. We had a leisurely drive along the rivers and canals on our way. Shortly after getting set Ken and Jean, fellow Fantasy travelers from So. Ca, arrived. We had decided to do Niagara Falls together. Our campground is a combination Motel and Campground. The Motel is not so nice but the campground is great. Very quiet and close to everything. Away from the hubbub of the city. We are 12...

Sep 21, 2013 - Niagara Falls, New York

We had a rather eventful trip on Thursday coming to North Tonowanda, New York to see Niagara Falls. The last leg of our trip was just 90 miles so we had taken our time leaving not wanting to be too early for check-in! Well, when I pushed the button to bring in our first slide an alarm went off and it took three tries to get it in. Same process for two more slides and one set of hydraulic jacks. The last set of jacks wouldn't move at first. We had all but given up when Bill shut off the truck and I decided to try it one more time and they...

We drove to the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum. The museum is housed in the original Allan Herschell Company Factory Building in North Tonawanda and has been celebrating the history of carousel and band organ (Wurlitzer Band Organs) for 28 years. Besides having carousel animals exhibited, their is a Kiddie Land exhibit which has a miniature carousel and other rides. They also have vintage Wurlitzer Band Organ used on their carousels, a Style 125 circa 1917 and a Style 146 circa 1925. They also have hundreds of hand punched paper tapes...

Aug 2, 2011 - We're 9 miles from the Falls!

Day 2, Woodland to North Tonawanda We finally got clear of Woodland around 11:45 a.m. We were obviously living in a fool’s paradise on the trip last fall, because now we are facing all the frustrations that new travel trailer owners face. Ron -Big issue: hot water! Ron finally figured out that the propane gas problem in the trailer was due to the hot water heater, which wanted him to light the pilot light so it could work. We finally managed to do it last night, then this afternoon we had the same problem again. Ron called Keystone and the...

Jul 31, 2010 - Day 141 - The Canadian side of the fury

Today was overcast all day so I wasn't able to shoot any rainbows over the falls...or get those magnificent cloud formations. Just blah. The SKY! Not the falls! Still, starting our with a ride on a carousel always guarantees a good day. Hunter and I did lots of walking. I wanted to get a picture with all of the falls in one photo and we walked as far as the parkway allowed and was just able to include both in one shot. The only hard part of the day...or I should say, uninspiring, was getting back to the USA from the Canadian side. It took...

Jul 30, 2010 - Day 140 - A place that one cannot forget

We left as late as we could from our Richfield Springs/Cooperstown RV park...I just didn't want to leave that place...and headed directly north to hit New York's Hwy 90 thru-way. From there it was a straight shot west to Niagara Falls where I paid my $35 toll for that privelege. I am staying in a neat and tidy, no frills park that sits behind a very sparce but clean 1950's motel. Fed Hunter, walked him til he did his business, then headed for the big water! We only explored the American Falls so tomorrow you know where we're going. But the...

May 29, 2009 - Bummer---NOT Headed off to Bath, near Corning, NY

Real bummer the leak in the MH turned out to be a steel tube that had to be ordered. So the MH will not be fixed and ready to go this weekend. So I called and canceled the reservations and we will adjust our plans. Plenty to do around the house. We were looking forward to the trip and meeting new people in the Holiday Rambler Club. Hope to get out for a weekend in June. Thanks for checking in. Bob
