April 21 - Newburgh, NY Newburgh is as close as we can camp to New York City coming from the north. We found a nice KOA campground that even offers New York City tours in the summer season. We arrived mid-day so we decided to explore Newburgh. Turns out this is where George Washington had his home for the last 2 years of the war (1782-1783). Newburgh is just about 12 miles up the Hudson River from West Point and the Washington home strategically overlooked the Hudson River in case any British should try to bring their ships upriver. Sep 20, 2005 - NEW!!!! Crap that happened on Tuesday

The saga of the lost luggage continues. Yes, that's right. It's been 3 days and still no luggage. I called the baggage people this morning to update them with my next stop. I repeated myself about 4 times, spelling the name of the town (Plattekill, New York. The Newburgh KOA, to be exact). Yet again, I was promised that I would get my bag today. By this evening, for sure. Or, if not, then tomorrow. I rolled my eyes extensively as the baggage person told me this. I stopped believing that bullshit a day or so ago. May 29, 2004 - Fishkill, NY

No time to camp! We spent the night at a cheap motel in Fishkill, NY. Romantic town name, huh? Lots of town names around here end in "kill." The motel was nothing to rave about, but we had a blast at the very popular diner down the road. You can see the day one photos!
