Sep 23, 2019 - Letchworth State Park

After an enjoyable week at Four Mile Creek State Park near Niagara Falls, it was time to pack up and head inland a bit to Letchworth State Park. We arrived at LSP on Monday, September 23rd. It was a fairly short drive to Letchworth from Four Mile Creek, so we checked out as late as possible and took our time. Many state parks have check-out times around 11am and check-in times around 3pm….so it makes things interesting when you have short drives from one park to another. Letchworth State Park is a place that my Mom and Dad used to take me...

2019 Life in our RV

Jun 26, 2018 - Letchworth State Park

No visit to western NY state would be complete without a trip to Letchworth State Park. This land, donate by the industrialist William Letchworth in 1906, features a magnificent view of the Genesee River gorge. Three impressive waterfalls and many hiking paths (yes, we did some hiking) make for a great time in this most natural of settings. With beautiful weather Patti and I spent most of the day there.

Jun 28, 2016 - Letchworth State Park

I spent yesterday photographing along the Genesee River Gorge in Letchworth State Park. There are three large waterfalls along the Genesee River in the park. The three major waterfalls are called the Upper, Middle, and Lower Falls, fancy names. There is a stone foot bridge that crosses the Genesee River in the park just below the Lower Falls. The Middle Falls is the highest, and the Upper Falls has an active railroad trestle crossing immediately above it. I spent time at the Middle and Upper Falls last evening after Sue and I had dinner at...

Jun 27, 2016 - Going to the "Grand Canyon"

I'm trying to catch up with our posts as the State Parks do not have WiFi and AT&T cell coverage in the "boonies" is spotty at best. We left Fourmile Creek State Park on Monday and headed inland to Letchworth State Park - home of the "Grand Canyon of the East". We are here for 4 days and it is purely a photographic stop. The park is roughly 17 miles long, and follows the course of the Genesee River as it flows north through a deep gorge and over several large waterfalls as it flows toward Lake Ontario. The rock walls of the gorge rise up to...

Sep 8, 2012 - Letchworth State park-NY

Memo for the NY DOT: How about changing the name of the overpass labeled "Nine Foot Road". When someone is driving a 12' tall RV this is a heart stopper! Went to a very pretty location called Letchworth State Park. This is advertised as the grand canyon of the east. It must be awesome when the fall colors arrive. Stayed here 2 nights and found the campground to be spacious and clean (only electric hookups). The end of the park with the cool waterfalls also has a RR bridge. Looks REALLY old but still in operation. People aren't supposed to...

Oct 14, 2011 - Finally Fall

Rob has visited Letchworth State Park many times in the fall and taken some fantastic pictures. He is a very talented photographer, who has had several photos published. I was so happy he shared this special place with us. Despite the rainy weather, we still had a great time. I have finally seen really fabulous fall colors at their peak. The Genesee River winds through the park and has cut deep gorges and features several waterfalls. The park is known as the “Grand Canyon of the East.” The tallest waterfall in the Northeast is found...

Jun 11, 2010 - Letchworth State Park, New York's Grand Canyon

Before we left Pennsylvania, we took a day to explore the area known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. Leonard Harrison State Park is beautiful, well-kept, and large. The canyon was not so long, but deep by eastern standards. Out west, it would barely be noticed except for the incredible greenery. We went up into New York's Finger Lakes region, drove along Seneca and Cayuga Lakes, and stopped to take pictures at Taughannock Falls. None of this prepared us for our next adventure, Letchworth State Park. We camped right in the Park, which...
