I was pleased to leave our EconoLodge in Lancaster, Pa., this morning. Little did I know we’d be in another one tonight. We have settled on Highland Falls, N.Y., the home of West Point. It was the only place in the vicinity that had rooms cheaper than $100 per night. We are less than 60 miles from New York City, so prices are going up. But the boys love the EconoLodge because the continental breakfast usually includes doughnuts. Jun 7, 2009 - West Point and Exotic Cars

We had another perfect weather day here in the green mountains of New York State. We had read in the paper about a Hudson River Day celebration in nearby Newburgh, so we decided to check it out. We managed to find the marina area in Newburgh but they were just setting up some booths. We asked a cop who was directing traffic and he said the celebration would actually begin later this evening when some ships arrived at the marina around 6:00 pm. Pretty Damn Nice!

Sep 17, 2008 - West Point Military Academy

In our spare time (ha!) when we were not running back and forth to New York City, we took a quick afternoon trip down to Highland Fall, New York to visit West Point. Since 9/11 things have changed on military posts and, although visitors are welcome, there are new restrictions in place. At West Point you have to be part of a tour group to enter the campus and even then cadet areas are off limits to the general public. So we selected the 2-hour tour for our visit.
