Sep 19, 2013 - Day 12

New York must be the only state left that hasn't figured out how to number the interstate exits. Not only are they sequential without any reference to mile markers, but the mile markers start in the north or east instead of the south or west like every other state, and the exits increase in the opposite direction. Sure makes it difficult to figure out exactly where you are and how much farther you have to go. OK, that's the end of that! Beautiful day today weather-wise and scenery-wise. We drove up the Great Lakes Seaway Trail which follows...

New England 2013

Sep 18, 2013 - Day 11

We found the most unique KOA campground I have ever seen. We are staying at the Association Island KOA which is essentially on its own island. We are right on the shore of Lake Ontario on what they call the "sunset" side, and that sunset was spectacular tonight. As an added bonus, there was also a full moon. The drive here from Niagara Falls was pretty -- rolling hills and a hint of fall color and, because it is mostly a toll road, somewhat fewer giant semis. (By the way, the tolls and parking fees are becoming almost as expensive as gas --...

New England 2013

Jul 21, 2010 - Association Island RV Resort, Henderson Harbor, NY

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day, with a nice cool breeze blowing through the campground. We drove the car to Watertown, NY so Dan could get tools to fix the turn signal on he car. He messed with a bunch of wires and still couldn’t get it working, so we decided to just drive the hour to our next stop and worry about it when we got there. Hail storm and beautiful sunset in the afternoon.

Jul 20, 2010 - Branches of Niagara, Grand Island, NY to Association Island RV Resort, Henderson Harbor, NY

Another technically challenging day for the Balls and BART. We were all packed up and ready to leave for the Thousand Islands, and couldn't get the living room slides to retract. We tried everything we could think of to no avail, and then I decided to call Monaco to see if we could get some technical help. A guy we had met at the previous campground, who admitted he was totally technically challenged, also had a Monaco and said he had called their 800 number on a couple of occasions when he had problems and they were very helpful. So I got...

Aug 8, 2008 - Henderson Harbor, NY

The original plan was to spend tonight in Wilmington and come here tomorrow, but it was raining and we saw what we really wanted to see and decided to come here a day early. It rained the whole way, but ended by the time we got here. We're sitting on Lake Ontario and enjoying the view.

Alaska '09

Jun 28, 2008 - Dest Henderson Harbor, NY

Our mileage today was 291. Total Trip Miles to date: 1,819 Diesel cost $4.489 Today After a strong rainstorm Friday night, we left early Saturday morning to even more rain. It was more then a 6-hour trip to get back across the Canadian border. As we passed through Toronto, the rain got quite heavy, but stopped by the time we reached our campground on Association Island, located on one of the 1,000 Island chains. We had a 360% view of the water, kind of like being in Key West. We learned that major corporations, with ours once owned by...
