Aug 21, 2017 - Camp Elmbois (8/10 - 8/13/17)

Camp Elmbois is our kind of place. It is way back in the quiet back country near Keuka Lake which is one of the Finger Lakes. We were in site #2. There are 2 ponds on the property. They are catch and release ponds built by the owner's father back in the 1960s. The land where the park itself is was reclaimed from swampland and the ponds were covered in reeds. It is such a nice park now. They also have parties, reunions and weddings. Also they have paddle boats and kayaks that you can use. We went out a couple of times fishing. Caught a few...

Jun 26, 2017 - Returning - Keuka Lake Wineries

Monday, 6/26/17 I helped Joe feed the horses, packed up the car, and was ready to go to the Buffalo airport to pick up Ali. We had rancho hueves for breakfast – Alice cooked for my last morning. How nice. She invited me back as a work away or a guest. We said our farewells – Steve, Peggy, Pam, and Joe – and Marty and I headed out. Ali’s plane was on time and we were heading to Keuka Lake a bit after 11. There were 5 wineries on the agenda to hit before 5:00 closings. I was hoping we’d make at least 3. We made 5! 1. Keuka Springs – Penn...

Sep 11, 2014 - Today Was A Real Corker!

9/11/2014. Thursday. Today Was A Real Corker! It rained all night and most of the morning which was fine since Anita and Jenny talked on the phone until 1:45am. By the time we hit the road for our daily field trip the weather cleared up but it was still overcast. We took the back roads to Hammondsport on Keuka Lake. Keuka Lake is one of the Finger Lakes but I don't think it is the Middle Finger Lake. Our destination was the Bully Hill Winery located up a very high hill over looking Keuka Lake. The parking lot for Bully Hill Winery was on a...

Oct 9, 2012 - Discovering Glenn Curtis and Hammondsport

October 9, 2012-Well I found out today why we were in Bath. We had a really full day. We did a ride-share to the Glenn Curtis Museum in Hammondsport. Glenn Curtis was one of the engineering geniuses of early heavier than air flight. He started out with motorcycles, then designed engines fro airplanes. He worked with Alexander Graham Bell in some of the earliest designs for aircraft. In fact, the aircraft Curtis worked on was the first to make a public flight (the Wright Brothers had flown in secret before). Curtis also designed one of the...

Oct 8, 2012 - Corning Museum of Glass, Bath, and Hammondsport

October 8, 2012-Travelling today on another longer trip. This one is unique in that we are stopping in Corning, New York to visit the Corning Museum of Glass, then we go on to our RV park in Bath, New York. The trip was a confirmation that this area of New York state is just really pretty. It is wet, with ponds and lakes all over, and it is fertile, with numerous farms along the road. We managed to park all of our RVs at the Corning Museum of Glass—they have a big parking lot that gave us plenty of room to park our big rigs. We took a tour...

Jul 14, 2009 - Hammondsport, NY & the Curtiss Museum

We went to see the Glen Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport,NY. It was quite interesting to see all the early planes, motorcycles, bicycles and even the first travel trailer. He started his career building bicycles. In 1907 he set a world record on his motorcycle by going 136 mph. One of his bicycles was the Hercules model which is well known in Germany. From there we went to downtown Hammondsport which is located on Keuka Lake. It was quite a pretty little town. We stopped at a local pub and sat outside and had chicken wings and some weizen...
