Aug 20, 2016 - Aug 19 Hamburg to Lockport (38.60 miles)

Aug 19 - It is always hard to say good -bye to friends, especially after having so much fun!! It should never be good-bye but "until we meet again"!! and we will meet again! thanks Laurie for all the fun! Back on the road and we have to find our way to the main route again. The route of the Northern Tier does actually take us into Canada and along Niagra Falls! We really need to look ahead at our maps and know where they are taking us! Since we had just spent the day at Niagra Falls,Mike was in favor of bypassing the planned route but I of...

Aug 19, 2016 - August 17 & 18 Barcelona, NY to Hamburg, NY and Niagra Falls

Aug 17 - A beautiful morning today!! First morning we didn't feel as if we were racing in front of rain for ages!! It didn't take us long to pedal ourselves to Dunkirk, where we stopped at a lakefront patio family diner for a spot of breakfast! I think we found a winner so far for the Best Cinnamon Roll Across America Taste Test! Yum! Add a breakfast special of bacon and eggs and we were well nourished to see us thru to our destination for the day of Hamburg, NY and my friend Laurie Kitchen!! An easy riding day, one long road all the way...

May 19, 2012 - On the road again .......sort of

On the road again.....sort of. We are heading out on our trip to the Midwest and expect to be gone about 2 months. Three weeks ago we took the coach out for a weekend. We discovered the leveling jacks weren't working. We took it to a local Rv repair garage. They determined it was the controller - which we replaced 3 years ago. The part was ordered from Atwood - didn't arrive until Thursday. We brought the coach back Friday a.m. to be installed. About noon they called and told us that the part was defective! We called Newmar and were lucky...

Sep 16, 2010 - Still at the rally

We are enjoying almost perfect weather here in Hamburg. Cool enough in the evening to really enjoy a campfire, but warm enough during the day that no jackets are required. We have made so many friends through our Carriage group. Generally Glenna has trouble at rallies with her gluten free diet. Once the caterer was made aware of Glenna’s requirements, he has been totally accommodating. He has given Glenna alternatives when necessary, and let her know when the standard meal was gluten free. Many of our friends bring gluten free snacks to...

Glenna and I are now attending our third Carriage Grand National Rally. A two and a half hour drive down the QEW, over the bridge at Fort Erie and ten miles south along the shores of Lake Erie brought us to our campsite. We are staying at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg. It is so much fun getting together with our Carriage friends. We are camped between Skip and Lorraine, and Tim and Gail, who are friends from the New England Club that we met with at Hampton Beach earlier in the summer. Across the street another couple, Dennis and...

Jun 21, 2010 - On the road but stalled

Will traveling to Empire state soon. Left May 20th drove to the rt66 Casino in NM. Enjoyed a very nice buffet ($5 cuz I was 50+,) Next drove route 40 to nice clubs RV park in OK right near rt 40 (location escapes my old mind ). Depart in AM and drove until we had trouble with RV in AK (got taken for a minor ride there where we had to pay the gas station $$ for breaking down in front of his pump.) When on the road again RV running but with mild electrical problems parked and spent the night at a noisy (reliable)truck stop on US 40 still. ...

Jul 15, 2008 - International Travel

Whoopee! The 5 day weather forecast calls for warm and sunny days. Day one was spot on! The group assembled for breakfast at 6:00 and it was great to see the rest of the faces. Someone at my table asked “so are there any new faces?” I responded with “me” and the response was” you are just recycled…not new!” Left about 7 AM in 70 degrees and it stayed there all morning warming up to the mid 80’s as we rode into Hamburg NY. The first 56 miles were on a delightful two lane road with Lake Erie on our left and moderate traffic….it was everything...

"Retirement" Journey

Sep 3, 2007 - Heading Towards Hamburg, NY

Monday, September 3, 2007. Camping World, Hamburg, NY Heading Towards Hamburg, NY We got on the road today around noon or a little later. We don't have as far to go today as we do some days so we can set a little slower pace. The scenery along the way is pretty. I don't remember being in this part of Ohio before. We arrive at the Camping World and get settled in for the night.
