Nov 13, 2015 - Brooklyn, NY

We drove up to Brooklyn Friday night just as my baby Ryan was getting off work. Becca came home soon after. We had a great weekend with them. We are so proud of the adults they are. And Ryan had even stocked his fridge for us. Usually it was him cleaning out the fridge whenever he would come home. It was so nice to be able to return the favor! . He even had Coke in glass bottles. One of Mike’s favorites! We had a great dinner which included some of the famous Della-Peruta roasted peppers and some sausage spinach and cream cheese roll up...

Dec 5, 2014 - Exploring ancient Egypt at the Brooklyn Museum

I had another filling breakfast at the hotel then logged in to check the opening time for the Brooklyn Museum and discovered it didn't open until 11 a.m. so I caught up my e-mail before catching the subway to today's venue. I arrived just minutes before it opened so had a little time to walk around and photograph the Auguste Rodin sculptures in the courtyard. Then checked my coat and headed upstairs to the Egyptian galleries. On the way I saw they did have a few exhibits in the Near Eastern Art gallery even though most of it was closed for...

May 19, 2013 - Brooklyn Tabernacle

Nasty weather but great service. We made our way over to Brooklyn Tabernacle by taxi. This is a great New York experience. The choir is almost 200 alone and the Tabernacle holds thousands. They also have multiple services throughout Sunday. The worship songs and singing were amazing and it was great to be there. It is very multicultural. In an adjacent hall they were baptising 100 people. Pastor Jim Cymbala gave a great message on the Holy Spirit from Galations 5. This message can be listened to on Podcast at www.brooklyntabernacle.org For...

Dec 2, 2012 - New York

First day of the adventure. Meet up with my dear friend Sam in New York so that I have a bit of time to see him and am able to be very much on time for the big flight out to Israel on Monday evening. I hadn't been to New York in 32 years and things are very much the same AND very different all at the same time. It was so good to see Sam and see the city from his eyes. Today we are off to brunch and a movie. Then a relaxed evening, a bit of laundry and time with Jesus before leaving tomorrow!

Sep 9, 2012 - The rest of Week #2

Hi everyone: No we have not left you but we have been doing and seeing a lot in this our second week in NYC. After long days of dog walking, touring, meeting and visiting with friends and many/many climbs (6 times each day)up the three sets of 17 steps each to our apartment so I have not had the energy to sit at the computer and make an entry. However many of you must be just as busy as I have not been reading any comments from many of you on my previous entries. Remember, love is a two way street - so please write...

Sep 5, 2012 - NYC Week #2 - West Indian Day Parade

On Monday Labor Day MJ and I split for the day. After the morning dog walk then breakfast she headed for for some shopping around the city and I ventured over to Brooklyn to see the West Indian Day Parade. I could not believe I was doing this as I tried most of my career to avoid this event. This parade that began in 1975 has the potential to be a colorful expression of ethnic island communities that have settled in New York. Approximately 60,000 party goers gather along a two mile stretch in what once was one of the more affluent areas of...

Dec 30, 2009 - Livin' in Brooklyn

Tuesday morning, and I wake up as a resident of Brooklyn, New York- living the dream you might say. The brownstone houses are so fantastic out here, and I think I'd love one of these even more than an apartment in Manhattan. I live in the building in the photo anyway, everything I need is pretty close by, including a gym, supermarket, pharmacy etc. The subway is about three minutes walk and it takes about 25 minutes to get to midtown Manhattan. My apartment is lovely and I'll be sad to leave it in a few weeks. Here's hoping I have a job by...

Nov 1, 2009 - New York Marathon + Kai, Pooh and Mums underwear

No pictures of Damien - he was too busy hugging and kissing his wife and child as he ran past. However, we felt we should put it in as it in as an entry as it is definitely one of Damien's New York highlights. After trying for 3 years without getting in, he was an automatic entry for 2009 and finished in 3hrs 55 mins and 32 seconds!

Aug 24, 2008 - NY, Brooklyn Coney Island

Owner: Ride's over at Coney Island amusement park Published: 9/8/08, 6:45 AM EDT By RICHARD PYLE NEW YORK (AP) - When reports circulated over the weekend of a last-minute deal to keep Coney Island's historic Astroland amusement park open for another year, owner Carol Hill Albert was not amused. Indeed, her tone was bitter as she described plans to close the park Sunday night in lieu of an agreement with the city or with private developer Thor Equities, which have competing plans for the 3-acre Brooklyn site. "Despite rumors to the contrary,...

Oct 7, 2007 - Brooklyn, NY

Today we drove 2 hours into New York to attend the Brooklyn Tabernacle. what a great time. We attended two services, one at 12 and one at 3:30. We found out that this weekend was the special weekend when Carol Cymbala, wife of the Pastor Jim Cymbala, author of "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire", was having a special music conference. The Brooklyn Tabernacle choir is directed by Carol and they had, probably 400 in the choir this Sunday as a number of conference people sang with them. We were fortunate to attend when Jim Cymbala was speaking. at 12 he...

Sep 4, 2007 - And we're off

When we woke up at 3:15 am, Barkley looked at us as if we were nuts and promptly went back to sleep. We, on the other hand, were extremely glad to be awake since I forgot to set the alarm -- wouldn't want to miss the plane/limo/ship today! We're leaving the house in "realtor-readiness" for Gina, our house and Barkley sitter. Limo West was right on time (not to be confused with Southwest Limo -- more on that story later), check in at Midway was quick, the plane ride was short and smooth, and all of our luggage arrived with us in New York....
