May 26, 2013 - Roger Flies ahead to get Dande Girl Ready for Maggie & Camden

For about a week Roger will be doing a lot of cleaning, provisioning, calibrating, planning. It's a good thing that Maggie & Camden aren't there because there isn't enough room for a crew to work harmoniously yet. The floorboards will be lifted out for better access to the engine room. Mechanics will be coming and going frequently and a sea trial needs to be set up to warranty the new engines and the installations. When Maggie gets there she will do finer detailed cleaning and stock up the pantries and freezers. More will be added to this...

We were comfortably ahead of schedule when we left Oswego. The few locks we had left were pretty easy, as locks go. No strong currents, high winds, ornery lock attendants or extreme heat. We kept our eyes open for a few places to while away some time at Labor Day weekend. That can be tricky to find an anchor place or tie up without reservations on a big weekend. We checked out many places that were offered in our guide and we turned our noses up at all of them. By 4:00pm we had that uneasy feeling that this was going to be an unhappy Labor...

Jun 6, 2009 - Erie Canal - Waterford to Brewerton, NY

We part our good friends on Still Busy, as they leave Waterford for the Lake Champlain and we make a left turn at Waterford and head up (down?) the Erie Canal. We did the Champlain Canal when we did the Great Loop, so wanted to do the Erie this time, even though it adds about 450 miles and maybe 3 weeks to the trip. The Erie Canal is full of history.
