Jun 18, 2010 - Moncton, New Brunswick

We left Maine and arrived in Moncton, New Brunswick today on our way to Prince Edward Island. Gene saw a list of events on the bulletin board in the RV Park office that showed the Moncton Community Band was having a concert in town tonight at the community park. We threw our folding chairs in the car and left for our usual drive around town. After stopping for pizza and then ice cream we found the park and set up our lawn chairs with the locals. It was an interesting band made up of locals from the middle school kid to a 91 year old...

Apr 8, 2010 - Baton Rouge, LA

We decided to leave Lake Charles and stop in Baton Rouge, LA for one night. We arrived at Cajun Country Campground about 12:15pm. What a strange place. I called right up till we were about a mile away and didn't get an answer. I wasn't sure we should stop but we did and just as we pulled up a young gal was unlocking the office door. We drove around a bit and decided to play golf at LSU. After we finished playing golf we wanted to see if Don's Seafood Restaurant was still open in Baton Rouge. Don's was a favorite place of ours to eat in...

Apr 7, 2010 - Tow Cable Repair

We searched on the Internet for a place that specializes in trailer hitches figuring they would be able to repair our tow cable. We found one right off the interstate. We stopped in and explained our situation and they got right to it. We were all fixed and ready to roll in less than an hour and for only $20. Gene made the comment that it was nice to watch somebody work when they knew what the heck they were doing. Not like the guy yesterday at Freightliner that fooled with the wires for an hour and made no headway at all. We left the...

Apr 6, 2010 - Leaving Jamaica Beach

We left Jamaica Beach in Galveston about 8:20am heading to Freightliner in Houston to finally get the service work done on the RV. We arrived about 10:00 am and didn't get out of there until 3:35pm. Before we left Jamaica Beach we discovered the tow cable had been damaged again so we didn't have working lights on the car while in tow. It looked like the connection had been run over. The service tech said he thought he could fix it but he couldn't so that cost us about an hours time before we told him to give it up. We left Freightliner and...

Mar 27, 2010 - Massage and Hair Cut

We've spent the last couple of weeks just touring Galveston, visiting the Flight Museum, the Ocean Star Oil Rig Museum, Kemah Boardwalk and Seawolf Island. One afternoon we took the ferry over to Bolivar Peninsula. They seem to be taking longer to recover from hurricane Ike. There's still a lot of damaged homes and building that haven't been replaced or repaired. We went to Moody Gardens golf course a couple of weeks ago and ended up only playing 9 holes because it was so windy. We decided to try again on March 26. It was a nice course...

Mar 20, 2010 - Spring Break With Grand Kids

Dave, Debbie and the grand kids drove down on Sunday afternoon, March 14. They all stayed with us Sunday night and Dave and Debbie left on Monday morning on their cruise. Gene drove them to the cruise dock around 10:00am and they were scheduled to leave around 4:00pm but Debbie called to say their departure was going to be delayed a couple of hours. Later that afternoon we took the kids over to see the cruise ship before it left the dock. While we were at the docks we visited the Tall Ship Elissa and museum. We stopped for ice cream on the...

Mar 10, 2010 - Waffle Breakfast

Not many things will get us up before 9:00am but free waffles did the trick this morning. They only serve until 9:00am so we made it just in time. The waffles were pretty darn good so it was worth the effort. The coffee wasn't great so we'll probably bring our own coffee on Saturday. We spent most of the day just driving around and checking out the cruise dock. Dave, Deb and the kids are coming down on Sunday. Dave and Deb are going on a cruise on Monday and the kids are going to stay with us for the week. We went back to Nate's for our...

Mar 9, 2010 - Jamaica Beach in Galveston, TX

We left Victoria, TX about 9:00am heading to Jamaica Beach RV Park in Galveston, TX. It rained on us most of the way. Not exactly what we were expecting but it wasn't a bad drive. We had a scare about halfway to JB when the carbon monoxide alarm in the bedroom went off and I couldn't get it to shut off. Gene finally had to pull off the road and get the screw driver out. We never did find out what set it off and now I have another thing to worry about. As we got closer to JB we had to cross a toll bridge (not NJ prices, only a couple of...

Mar 8, 2010 - Leaving Llano Grande RV Park

Not much has happened in March so far. We said good bye to Polly and Ken on March 1. We are sure going to miss them. We drove down to South Padre Island again and visited a couple more museums. Gene continued to play Texas Hold 'Em at the rec center on Tuesday night. I really wanted to play with them but just didn't have enough confidence in my ability. I finally decided what the heck, I won't ever see these people again so what if I embarrass myself. I played our last Tuesday night there and had a great time. I wasn't the first (I was the...

Feb 21, 2010 - Mexican Fiesta

We took the Mexican Fiesta Tour today. Drove 2 ½ hours to Roma, TX to cross the border at Miguel Aleman, MX. The advertisement promised a day to remember. Well, I don't think we'll forget it that's for sure. The lunch was fajitas, rice, beans and mashed potatoes with Margarita, Pepsi or beer to drink. Really now, mashed potatoes - "Mexican Fiesta"???? After lunch we re-boarded the bus and drove to the rodeo arena to watch the Mexican cowboys, "Charros", do their tricks and young ladies ride horses in traditional sidesaddle. The whole show...

Feb 17, 2010 - Going To The Denist In Mexico

We have heard a lot about Winter Texans going across the border to Nuevo Progreso, MX to the dentist and how inexpensive it is. So, we went the first week we were in Mercedes and had some work done and "I thought" I had scheduled a follow up appointment for Tuesday, Feb 16 at 4:00pm. Since Gene was concerned he might not get back in time for his Tuesday night Texas Hold 'Em Poker Game at the rec center, I told him I would go by myself. I didn't really expect him to take me up on it, but he said okay! The closer I got to the border, the...

Feb 6, 2010 - Boxing Match in McAllen

The first week of February was pretty uneventful. We played golf when the weather permitted, played a lot of cards with Polly and Ken, visited the hot tub and ate a lot. The Tecata Texas Boxing Tour kicked off in McAllen on national Fox Sports Net and Gene decided it would be a good time to see a live boxing match. I'm not a big fan of boxing but what the heck, I thought it would be something to do. What I didn't know is that it was an event sponsored by Fox "Espanol" TV and mostly in Spanish and a match actually consist of several...
