Our first day/night in New York, we spent at Allegany State Park, at the far end of the Allegheny Mountains and near the headwaters of the Allegheny River. Fall colors are starting to pop ... weather has been sensational ... not a cloud in the sky for several days now. Hope you enjoy a few of the pics we took.

Sep 8, 2006 - Back in the USA

We have arrived back at Allegany State Park on the New York - Pennsylvania border. We had reservations here, but forgot to worry about the Labor Day weekend. As a result we had to scramble to find a spot for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. On Friday we stopped in Wilington Connecticut at the Moosehead Campground where we paid an absurd $50 a night for a spot in a field with water and electric. It was a family campground with lots of loud entertainment for the kids. Everyone showed up despite the threat of heavy rain. We spent two nights...

Jun 4, 2006 - Allegany State Park - New York

Allegany State Park is in southernmost New York State. Its south border is the Pennsylvania state line. It is very close to Bradford, PA where Sue and all of her sisters graduated from St. Bernard's High School. It's a pretty park set among rolling eastern mountains. I have hiked almost all of its trails. But, it rained nearly every day during this visit and the trails are damp in sunny weather, so Sue, Arnie and I stuck to the paved bike path that encircles Red House Lake (photo) near our campground.
