Aug 10, 2018 - Day 73 - Santa Fe NM

For once, the day's travel goes almost exactly as planned. We leave Fairplay just before 10 driving separately and it's a good thing we did. The RV could have probably hauled the truck for about 80% of the first hour out of the mountains, but that other 20%, I don't think so. The engine was straining even without the tow. After traversing the last big hill, we pull over in a little town called La Jara and I hook up the truck. It was like the perfect spot because the next 2.5 hours were about as flat and straight a drive as you can imagine....

Summer 2018 Big Trip

Jun 24, 2018 - Santa Fe, NM

June 23 Overnight at Cheyenne Wyoming June 24 Overnight at Pueblo Colorado June 25-27 Santa Fe Skies RV Park, Santa Fe New Mexico We are at a RV park designed for big rigs on the outskirts of town. It’s been very hot and we wondered how the 2 remaining AC units (1 died in South Dakota) would handle very hot weather on our way to Seal Beach. So far so good, during the day we go into bunker mode-pulling down the black night shades on windows and windshield and making a point of exiting/entering the rig quickly to keep the cool in and the hot...

Spring Trip 2018

Jun 23, 2018 - Zander with us from 6/23-7/1/2018

Our grandson, Zander, flew into Albuquerque on June 23rd. On June 25th, Zander was introduced to fly fishing under the guidance of a professional guide from High Desert Angler, Santa Fe, NM. The waters in the area were low due to lack of winter snowfall and rain this year. The guide took Zander to the upper reaches of the Pecos River, Pecos, NM to private waters since the Santa Fe Forest was closed due to fire danger. Zander did a great job of picking up the instructions very quickly. He caught a Rainbow Trout and seven Brown Trout on this,...

May 20, 2018 - Leaving Santa Fe for Denver 5-17-2018

We got a late start…not a little late. I have a suggestion for an entrepreneur looking for an idea. There is a need, at least by Tom and me, for someone we can call to load our trailer for our trips. Clothes, food staples and food for the first few meals, crock pot, electric frying pan, the iron, cleaning products (laundry and household), refrigerator and freezer items, computers, printer, office supplies, pet supplies, and ………… The drive was uneventful other than the “slow” created by pulling our much beloved trailer…home away from home....

May 16, 2018 - Santa Fe

We arrived in Santa Fe, NM yesterday. This rv park, Santa Fe Skies RV Park, is very nice and overlooks the mountains and adobe housing. It has a walking trail of about a mile that circles the park. We took a walk after settling in, but found that because of the elevation of over 7000 ft, it was a challenge. Still the weather is perfect, in fact, this morning it was chilly enough to use the fireplace. Later in the day, a clear blue sky, and a temperature of around 84 was great for driving into Santa Fe to walk around and explore galleries, a...

Mar 26, 2018 - Albuquerque & Santa Fe

We did not spend a lot of time in Albuquerque, most of it spent in Santa Fe. We had a nice dinner at one of Albuquerque’s brew pubs, Nexus. It was a very trendy place with great food and a good selection of craft beers. The next morning we drove up to Santa Fe for a day of sightseeing and shopping. OMG the shopping! I lost count of the shops we went in and sidewalk vendors we browsed. Thankfully it was more browsing than buying!! We were lucky enough to get there in time to see a beautiful and moving procession for Palm Sunday. They were...

Nov 10, 2017 - HOME

Yes, we got home on Wednesday, 11-9. Tom has been cleaning and winterizing the trailer. I have been shopping for groceries, sorting through mail and taking care of some correspondence. We had a great trip.. It was 86 nights and even with some unexpected happenings we cannot complain about any of the trip. It seems like we weren't gone that long but we saw and did so much we must have been gone as long as the calendar shows. I didn't feel the need to take a lot of photos because the being there was the memory.

Oct 28, 2017 - Santa Fe

Our first day was a day for relaxation. We watched ballgames, ate, and slept. Shopping in Sante Fe is a wonderful, unique experience. It is a feast for anyone's eyes with clothes, jewelry, art, jewelry, clothes, and more jewelry. Amazing! Did I say jewelry? Tuesday we headed out for the Bradbury Science Museum in Los Alamos. Of course Los Alamos is most well known for the development of the atomic bomb. Some of the museum is devoted to that but most of the museum has interactive exhibits that highlight the research that is currently taking...

Sep 21, 2017 - Day 23 - Los Suenos de Santa Fe RV park, NM

Cold night in northern NM. We chose not to put the heaters on and woke up to a 59 degree RV. Warmed up quickly and Wendy made a great big breakfast. We headed out about 1030 and drove maybe the most remote 85 mile stretch of road in the US. Hwy 56/412 between Clayton and Springer NM is just a gorgeous trip through the high desert with nothing but huge stretches of open range with a few cattle here and there. No towns, ranches every so often, but mostly just wide open spaces. Not a store, gas station or anything. Glad we had enough gas to...

Sep 9, 2017 - Sightseeing in Santa FE

Headed in to Santa Fe today to check out the history of the city. We toured 2 Catholic churches, San Miguel Church was considered the oldest church in America, dating back to the 1600s. The other church, Loretta Chapel was quite beautiful and had a unique spiral staircase. That church is used for a lot of weddings. We also toured the New Mexico History Museum which included the Palace Of The Governors. Santa Fe was very quaint and was full of New Mexico history. Outside the Palace of the Governor were vendors selling mostly turquoise...

Sep 8, 2017 - Santa Fe

Left Roswell, NM heading to Santa Fe. Didn't get very far out of Roswell before we noticed a low tire pressure for truck tire. Had to make a detour to Discount Tire. Had a slow leak that took a while to find, but once repaired, off we go again heading to Santa Fe. Drive was pretty much uneventful. Weather was nice! Arrived at our campsite at a Corps of Engineer park, Cochiti Campground. Found out we had electric only, no WATER! Ok, that is a deal breaker. Can do without sewer for couple of days, but no water could be a problem. We switched...

Aug 14, 2017 - Santa Fe to Portland, Maine and points all over - Fall 2017

We are going on an almost 3 month rod trip to see the colors in the east and visit Tom's sister in Ithaca, NY and a visit with a church friend who is in his first year of seminary in Columbus, Ohio. This is just the entry to get us on the map and moving on our journey. We will be gone just short of 3 months. Our stops will usually be 6 or 7 nights long but there are 2 one-nighters in the beginning to get us past previously traveled roads and paths. Here we go. Oh! Yes, Rio the cat is going with us.
