Mar 20, 2020 - Coronavirus - USA Border - No Problema

That insidious alarm again did it’s thing at 5:00 Friday morning, with the San Carlos harbor lights still twinkling in the darkness below. While Jill showered I did my required duties, including pouring the excess cooler water down the toilet, hauling the cooler down to 2nd floor to the only operational ice machine in the entire hotel, then getting myself fed on a couple more of Jill’s sugar rolls. Despite being bagged in the cooler, the rolls were beginning to show their age, so much so that they no longer met the original owner’s exacting...

Feb 25, 2020 - Back to Mountain Time

Our goal yesterday was to reach Rockhound State park to spend a couple of nights. But it seemed that everyone else had the same idea, as there were no spots available. We really needed to stay here as the winds were roaring again, so eventually settled on a Good Sam campground. It is very nice, though a little pricier than I wanted, and elected to stay for 2 nights to drive in between winds. Tomorrow looks like a good day to make it to Tucson. Now if we could only get the kitty back on this time zone as 5 AM is not my favorite time to get up!

Dec 9, 2019 - Lescombe Winery

After filling our bellies in Hatch NM, we traveled on to Deming NM. We stopped for the night at the D.H.Lescombes Winery taking advantage of free overnight camping in their parking lot using our Harvest Hosts membership. Lesombes Winery & Vineyards has restaurants in Albuquerque, Farmington, & Las Cruces NM. They were formerly known as St. Clair Winery & Vineyards but recently changed the name to the family name, D.H.Lescombes, six generations of winemaking legacy. The family have made wines across three continents. Africa (Algeria),...

Oct 20, 2019 - Still more Wind !

A very hard day for the driver today, Rebecca doesn’t drive in the wind, fighting 20 mph wind for 351 miles! Sometimes the wind was on our side, mostly it was head on! So with an abbreviated setup, we went out for a long relaxing dinner at IHOP. Our usual favorite local restaurant was closed. The next morning the wind had diminished to a level of slight breeze! Yea!

Mar 30, 2019 - Dream Catcher RV Park (Escapees)

Stayed an additional night due to HIGH HEAD WINDS (25mph) from the EAST. El Paso traffic is always 'white knuckle time', on a NORMAL day. I usually travel thru El Paso on the weekends, but this time on a Monday. A wreck had shut down I-10, took me 2 hours to go 3 miles, GEEZ! Oh well, just diesel and time, NO PROBLEM....

2019 RV Adventure

Mar 23, 2019 - A busy fun week

The photo captions tell the story. We had a fun week at the Escapade Rally call Escapade59. Left the rally and drove to a casino where we parked with their permission in the parking lot for a free nights stay. Left the RV there and drove our Jeep to Green Valley AZ an visited with a cousin and his wife who I have not seen in about 50 years. It was a great visit. Then we packed up and headed back to Albuquerque to finish up our house sale activities and finish up some follow up doctor visits. To break up the return trip we stopped again at...

Mar 16, 2019 - Deming, NM 81 Palms RV Resort

Another normal stop along I-10 heading west is 81 Palms RV Resort. The trip from Van Horn was a little more challenging than normal as we hit snow on and off along the way. As we pulled into Deming, it was snowing hard and the ground was covered. Chilly night, but the snow was gone in the morning and we were on our way again.

Winter2019

Mar 15, 2019 - Winery Fun

Spent half the day at Rockhound SP in very brisk winds and cold temps in low thirties. Then moved 8 miles down the road to St Clair Vineyard & Winery. Camped here in their parking lot with several others doing the same. Friday night is live music night in the tasting room, so after dinner we headed over and really enjoyed the evening. A lady played drums and her husband the guitar playing and singing some great tunes of the Eagles, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and many more (and really old song "Crazy" by Patsy Cline). They were very talented and...

Mar 14, 2019 - Albuquerque to Tucson

Passing through Hatch, NM. legendary farming site for the best green chile in the world. Notice the word 'chile' spelled with an "e". The federal government passed a law sponsored by New Mexico senators specifying the word in NM is spelled Chile, not Chili. When in NM the word chile refers to a green vegatable (which turns red when ripened) that varies in spicyness from mild to very hot. It is used in NM to garnish everything edible including but not limited to all sandwiches, soups, stews, pinto beans, desserts, meats, other vegetables,...

Feb 21, 2019 - Cochise to Deming

We had planned to stay at Dennis’ ranch (The Stronghold Ranch) in Cochise for 3 nights, but with another winter storm rolling in with predictions of up to 6’” of snow near the Dragoon Mountains, we decided to leave a day early on Wednesday. We packed everything up and were ready to go by noon, but we had to wait on Dennis to get back from a run into Tucson so we could pay him for the work he did and to say our goodbyes. When we first met Dennis, we were early into our fulltime adventure and spent a week in the small town of Cottondale...

2019 Life in our RV

Feb 2, 2019 - Deming, NM 81 Palms RV Resort

Finally on our way to Texas. We traveled I-10 to 81 Palms RV Resort, in Deming, NM. This is just a stop over park, but the people are very friendly. This is a 55+ park and children are not welcome. We don't run into many of these parks. I talked with a nice couple from Illinois and a lady from Michigan who is wintering at this park. Deming was nicknamed "New Chicago". It was expected that the surge of railroad usage, that the city would grow and resemble Chicago, IL. The Silver Spike was driven here in 1881 to commemorate the meeting of the...
