May 8, 2019 - We Love New Mexico
After several days of driving we arrived safe and sound at Caballo Lake State Park to start our volunteer gig for the summer months. I'll be working 24 hours a week for a very nice camphost site. Tomorrow I'll complete my first 24 hour week and mostly it entails watering all the trees around half the campground. They supply me a John Deere 4WD Gator so I can accomplish my task with ease. - The lake itself is full of fish including my favorite, Walleye. Hopefully I can hitch a ride or two out on a boat after we get our NM fishing license....Jump to full entry
Aug 3, 2018 - Time is Running Out !!!
Our time here on the mesa top is running out and we plan on pulling out on the morning of the 15th. We plan to spend that night near Albuquerque as we both have one more doctor appointment in the afternoon. - So far we have enjoyed the peace and quiet here along with some great sunsets. We haven't done much activity except attending the Low Rider Parade and Show in Espanola, we visited the Purple Adobe Lavender Farm and also visited Abiquiu Lake which we found to be very low on water. - We do plan on attending the events at Santa Clara...Jump to full entry
Jul 6, 2018 - Summer Plans
Our plans for the rest of the summer have been made. - After our doctor appointments that I wrote about in my last entry we plan to house sit on the same mesa top that we did last summer but it will only be for a month this time. This week we were invited to spend that time enjoying the peace and quiet near Abiquiu. We will see how the 5600' elevation and I get along. I'm sure it will be a little more "breathless" than the way it's been here at 4300'. - After that month we have reservations for 3 weeks at the Thousand Trails Verde Valley...Jump to full entry
Jul 1, 2018 - Just waiting....
Good Morning World. - We haven't been doing much except trying to stay as cool as possible with the 100+ degree days. We can stay cool in our RV but it can get to be claustrophobic after a while. We would rather be outside in the fresh New Mexico air. - Like I said in the title...Just Waiting...I'm referring to our doctors appointments that will begin on July 9th. Every day that week either Judy or I have 2 appointments scheduled. This is our main reason for returning to NM every year but not the most important reason which is that we...Jump to full entry
Jun 10, 2018 - We're Still Alive...
I'm so sorry that it's been a very long time since I posted. I can only blame it on laziness and I apologize. - Fact is I did write up a entry a few weeks ago but I ended up loosing it because I didn't "save" it from time to time and it "timed out" on me and I lost everything. For those of you that know me I was really PO. I guess I will blame my tardiness on that. - There I just saved what I typed so far. Ha. - We were planning on hanging around the Palm Springs area for a month or so after the park closed there but we made a quick dash...Jump to full entry
Sep 2, 2017 - That was Fast !!!
Wow, August sure went fast and I think the whole summer went fast. We are now at Caballo Lake RV Park in Southern NM for a few days waiting for the Labor Day Weekend to get over before we go to Tucson and then on to Palm Desert. Like I said in my last entry I sure will be glad to get back to our little piece of paradise. - Yesterday after arriving here we drove to Truth or Consequences to Riverbend Hot Springs and enjoyed a soak in one of their natural tubs in the hot mineral water. We had an overhead mister which made it comfortable on a...Jump to full entry
Nov 26, 2016 - Caballo Lake, NM Nov 12-16, 2016
So we did not make it Tucson, which meant our next scheduled stop was a 425 mile drive, but Tom wanted to give it a go. We set off about 8 AM and made it to Caballo Lake about 4:30 PM and Rio was ready to get out. Just a couple of thoughts about the drive: 1) Saguaro cactus are so cool. I did not stop for photos because I have seen them many times before. But they are just so majestic and tall in the land of low growing cactus. 2) Arriving back in New Mexico was subtle but created a kind of inner sense of “arrival” home. The sky is a...Jump to full entry
Mar 23, 2015 - Almost There......
Our month long stay at Rustys RV Ranch came to an end last Friday and we made the 3 hour trip to one of our favorite RV parks at Caballo Lake. Its the Caballo Lake RV Park and the park is exceptionally clean and priced at $15 a day or $150 a month. We stayed here a month a couple years ago during December and the weather did not cooperate at all during our stay then but this time the weather is perfect. - After our week stay here at Caballo Lake we will make another 3 hour trip to Coronado RV Park for a 2 week stay and then on to Cochiti...Jump to full entry
Apr 4, 2014 - Hello New Mexico
Judy is writing today's trip journal. After leaving the town of Willcox, Az. last night we drove around 200 miles to N.M. and are spending a night at Caballo Lake State Park. It is a lot cooler here and I am missing the warm Ca. sun. The drive was an easy one taking Interstate 8 then 10 and finally into New Mexico on I-25. While looking for a site as we had no reservations we thought we would find one, however most of the one area was full. It seems most RV'ers are on the move now or else most of them are getting the camping urge. Anyway...Jump to full entry
Oct 21, 2013 - A Pleasant Day In New Mexico
Judy is writing todays journal as she must be bored, no not really. Today its a beautiful day in New Mexico here at our site, lots of sun after temps went cool but still not frost here. I took a few pictures this afternoon including some of the lake, but the interesting ones are of the Devils Claw plant, it grows in New Mexico and some of the other western states, but upon finding it I get really a "happy feeling" to see it. It's a herb and in Greek means "hook claw" of which it is. You can find it in herbal stores, its to help with...Jump to full entry
Oct 19, 2013 - Cranes, Cotton and Chile's
OK, let start with the cranes. Wednesday we saw at least 3,000 fly over heading south. It was flock after flock all day long. Last night, after dark, and early this morning I could hear them on the lake. Many years ago we attended the Festival of Cranes which is held mid-November every year, during that time there are thousands upon thousands of different bird species that migrate there. The festival is held at Bosque del Apache near Socorro, NM, about a hour north of here. Since we will not be anywhere near New Mexico at that time is was a...Jump to full entry
Oct 15, 2013 - Caballo Lake State Park
Yesterday morning we pulled out of Leasburg Dam State Park and headed North, yes I said North but only 40 miles to Caballo Lake State Park. I know we should be heading south but that will come in a week or so. We wanted to spend some time here as we really like this place. Judy mentioned just this morning how much she liked Leasburg Dam State Park too so I'm sure we'll be going back there next spring. The last evening there we had another beautiful sunset as you can see in the photo's. - The park here is no doubt a southwest desert park...Jump to full entry
