Sep 25, 2008 - before the storm

The weather forecast is ominous - four inches of rain are predicted. It made sense to make a move away from the Maine coast today and head inland. This will also make the drive to next week's destination Lake George, an easier one. We're hunkered down almost all alone at a lovely campground in the lake region of New Hampshire and will wait for the weather to go by. Jun 28, 2008 - Polar Caves, NH

I stumbled upon the Polar Caves on the internet while searching for attractions in the New England region. Fifty thousand years ago, a continental glacier moved southward over New Hampshire covering mountains and valleys. As the ice sheet thawed, great blocks of granite cracked and loosened from Hawk's Cliff. These massive granite blocks fell at the base of the cliff forming Polar Caves, an amazing series of caves and passages.
