Jul 29, 2018 - New Hampshire

Early this morning we made at stop at the Vermont Country Store in Weston, VT. You may have received a catalog from them at some point. Old fashioned store with just about everything. We then drove to Plymouth Notch, VT to visit the birthplace of Calvin Coolidge. It was here that he received word that he would be undertaking the job of President. His father (who was a Notary Public) swore him into office. Unlike many presidents, his grave is alongside a dirt road in a small unassuming graveyard. His family was in the cheese business and...

Jun 22, 2017 - Happy Five-Year Anniversary!!

On June 20, 2017, we celebrated our Five-Year anniversary living in the coach. In those 1,825 days, we have: 1. Stayed in 199 campgrounds; 2. Driven the coach 46,890 miles; 3. Driven the Jeep an additional 128,786 miles; 4. Collected 359 lapel pins of places we have visited; and 5. Collected 102 Harley-Davidson dealer pins. For the record - we have not tired of this lifestyle and Stephanie's BUCKET LIST is still pretty extensive. Some things we have learned: 1. This is Not Camping Our version of full-time RVing is not camping — it’s...

May 28, 2016 - Waterfalls and more waterfalls

From Saco River Camping Area North Conway, NH Stephanie and Russell arrived late Friday afternoon. It was a beautiful day so we stayed outside most of the day talking to other campers. This is probably one the friendliest campgrounds we have been in. Stilldon't think they should charge extra for dog! We left the MH at 9 am and went to the Kancamagus Highway. We caame through there on the way to the campground and wanted to stop but no place for motorhome. It was just a few miiles from campground so easy to do in a car. We first stopped at a...

May 26, 2016 - New Hampshire

From Saco River Camping Area North Conway, NH We sadly left Vermont this morning but Bill told the campground manager that we would be back. He has to like it a lot to be willing to drive these back roads again. What we had been on though was nothing compared to what we drove today. Luckily he asked one of the campground workers what route we should take to Conway and the man said not to follow the GPS route over the Green Mountains. Roads were narrow and curvy and up and down mountains So we went south to Rutland and took some 2 lane roads...

Sep 26, 2013 - Just Another Day in the Mountains of N.H.

Hi all: Well we tried again for Mt Washington but a LOW pressure area in Canada (hey John A - you just may be right) caused some clouds to filter down into New Hampshire. That plus the lows temps of 28 degrees at the summit caused more ice and snow and closed the road and cg railway once again. What do you d here when you cant climb that mountain - you go on a hike and shop!! Check out these pictures. You may enjoy them even though they're getting a bit repetitive. Oh by the way....on the late new last night there was a segment about a...

Sep 25, 2013 - The White Mountain Loop

Hi all: On our next two days here we made attempts to get up to Mt. Washington but the ranger station at the base claimed both the road and cog railway were closed due to snow and ice and 80 mile per hour winds at the summit. Wake-up temps on the mountain were 26 and 29 degrees F respectively. For those of you who have never been here or to that mountain Washington boasts to have the most severe weather in the lower 48 states. It holds the record for the most snow; most ice and not only the most wind in the United States but the entire...

Sep 24, 2013 - A Sunday in North Conway, N.H.

Hi all: Here are just a few pictures from North Conway, New Hampshire o the Eastern Slopes of the White Mountains. 40 years ago, my first visit here, North Conway was a small crossroads town providing road access from Vermont to Maine and North to South in a valley between the Mountains to the West and the lake region of Maine. Well similar to most popular towns in the US this place has undergone some major transformation. From cute little houses, local shops and general stores we now have countless Inns, B&B's, motels, t-shirt shops,...

Sep 12, 2013 - Vermont and New Hampshire

Hi All We took the Essex ferry from Essex, NY to Charlotte, VT (across Lk Champlain). It was a very small ferry, yikes! Then we drove thru Vermont, stopping at Ben & Jerry's for a tour and sample and then thru White Mountains and have landed in North Conway, NH. Last night we had 85 degree weather with a huge thunder and lightening storm. Cleared up this morning and we rode the Conway Scenic RR. Had a blast as we decided to have the 3 course lunch in the dining car along with 6 other passengers. The food was wonderful but visiting with...

May 30, 2013 - White mountains

Moved on to the white mountain region of new hampshire today and there has been a step up in the size of the mountains. It also gone very hot,in fact its boiling and in the 90's even the locals can't remember it being this hot the strange this is they had snow last week!! The area us known for its mountain ranges and in particular Mt Washington the tallest mountain this side of the rockies at over 6000m, remember Snowdon is about 3000m. Would you believe they have a road to the top for cars to drive up if you dare! Im afraid not that brave...

Sep 29, 2012 - The quest continues

North Conway, NH. In our pursuit of fall foliage at its peak, we traveled west across Maine into New Hampshire. We had been experiencing beautiful weather but today we had a light rain instead of abundant sunshine. The weather did not deter us from making numerous stops as we traveled. We visited the Maine version of Paul Bunyan. He was supposedly originally from Maine. We also found a Farmer’s Market and later stopped at a farm selling tons of colorful pumpkins. We even stopped to view a very tall statue of an Indian and viewed a covered...

Sep 15, 2011 - North Conway, New Hampshire

During our spring rally in Niagara Falls it was decided to plan a fall rally at North Conway, New Hampshire. Tuesday morning we started a three trailer convoy from Ontario, heading east to Prescott and then over the border into New York. Our first night was at Massena, a campground that we first visited a couple of years ago. Day Two saw us pass into Vermont and finally New Hampshire. We had to make several detours because of road closures as a result of damage from Hurricane Irene. The campground here in North Conway was completely flooded...
