Oct 22, 2018 - The FloJet Macerator - Update

. UPDATE: Since purchasing the Macerator I've had a continuing problem of it overheating and stopping several times while I attempted to dump my tanks. . As my one year warranty was coming to an end, I broke down and called the support line to discuss the problem. "Why didn't you call us sooner?" the fellow at the other end said. He suggested that I undo the acorn nuts holding the unit together and see if I could spot the problem. . I did that, and before reassembling it, plugged it in to my 12 volt source and turned it on. I ran...

Oct 20, 2018 - Finding Dish Network Satellites

An updateof my entry for June 27, 2017 to include information about an iPhone application to help you find your dish network satellites. . We've had our Dish Network dome on the motorhome for over a year now, and when we find those satellites that are in geosynchronous orbit over the equator, it is great. But, sometimes that is hard to do, and often we just can't make a connection. . We're parked in my son Glenn's driveway in Nashua, New Hampshire and I spent an hour trying to get this thing going, without success. Glenn said he...

Oct 14, 2018 - Nashua, New Hampshire

The scenery on this trip has been amazing, compared to our usual route around Chicago and east on tollways below the Great Lakes, this northern route was much more interesting, and almost exactly the same distance. We'll do this again, but spend much more time doing it, stopping to see the sights along the way. The last 200 miles through Vermont and into New Hampshire took us over the mountains, rising from a 500 feet above sea level to passes at around 1300 feet. A couple of the grades were pretty amazing, in all of our mountain driving...

Nov 22, 2016 - Heading South from Nashua

. With Thanksgiving plans for Fredericksburg, Virginia with our son Tom and his family, we had to be on the road. I announced that we'd be leaving Nashua on Saturday morning, November 19th, but from past experience I knew this wasn't going to be an eight o'clock departure, more like noon. I was right. . So, I planned our first stop just a hundred miles down the road, The Nickerson Family Campground in Chaplin, Connecticut. We'd stayed there before, they are open year-round, a nice RV park, deep in a valley that prevented any television...

Oct 4, 2016 - Nashua, New Hampshire

. Since the decision to skip New York City, where our daughter Sarah lives, and catch that stop later on our migration to Florida in November, this trip became simpler. I programmed the GPS to take us to Nashua, New Hampshire by way of Albany New York and across Vermont. Massachusetts has automated their toll-way system, cash is out, and drivers must have an “E-ZPass” transponder on the windshield. A good move on their part, laying off hundreds of employees making more than bank presidents, and the occasional vehicle caught without the...

Dec 6, 2015 - Simplifying TV Reception As You Travel

. We've got two Vizio flat screen televisions in our motorhome, a 32" up front, a 26" back in the bedroom, i.e. "the captain's quarters". I love these Vizio televisions, only an inch thick, about 10-12 pounds, perfect for an RV, and they have a great picture. Both have Roku adapters, and with RV park WIFI, or our own network powered by our Sprint internet connection (I'm luckily grandfathered-in with unlimited usage), we can watch movies and tv shows on Netflix and other sources. .When we stop an RV park, or when boondocking at a Walmart,...

Nov 25, 2015 - The road to New Hampshire by way of Washington, DC

We left Minnesota earlier this month, after living in Princeton for too many years, we should have made this move a long time ago. Our first stop was just an hour away at our daughter's home in North Oaks, a St. Paul suburb. After weeks of throwing, giving, and selling (not much) almost all of our possessions, other than what we needed in the motorhome, or elected to save for a while in a storage unit, we were finally on the road. Our RV is totally packed with storage bins and boxes of children's possessions to be dropped off on our...

Dec 28, 2013 - Pre-Trip Preparation

We packed the motorhome today and are ready to head south again this winter, hopefully leaving the cold behind. We plan to leave early Sunday morning and like our last winter south bound trip, we’ll end our first day of travel in northern Virginia, where we’ll de-winterize the motorhome and spend the night at Candy Hill Campground.

Sep 19, 2013 - Nashua, NH

Day 38 & 39 - Nashua, NH 9/19 & 20/2013 Off to visit cousins today. We arrived at Lynns house safely. She has a great yard for rv parking, it was fairly easy for Bob to park. We spent the afternoon relaxing and visiting with Lynn. She showed us her house and the work they are doing to it. They have a lot of work to do, but have some great plans for what they want done. Giles came home from work and we had dinner sitting around a bon fire in the back yard. It was a great evening for relaxing. Later in the evening, we went and enjoyed the hot...

Jul 26, 2013 - Preparations for Our Biggie Trip

Friday, July 26th… In preparation for our trip, we’ve packed everything we want to take (clothes, food, GPS’, PCs, and such) into the motorhome, hooked up the Jeep, and are patiently (more like impatiently :-) waiting to leave tomorrow morning at about 6:30 am. Mar 31, 2013 - Home...

Our first winter get-a-way, lasted almost 3 months and ended safely yesterday… We met and became friends with a lot of people during our travels, that we’ll keep in touch with them between now and next year’s winter escape, when hopefully we’ll meet up with them again. Our trip ‘officially’ ended mid-afternoon yesterday with our arrival at home in Nashua. The ‘Twins’ we excited to see us and gave us quite a greeting! Shortly after getting home we began unloading the motorhome, of course the twins helped. We’ll finish unpacking everything...

Jan 9, 2013 - Pre-Trip Preparation

We’re getting ready to begin our trip to Silver Springs, Florida for a two month stay. Hopefully leaving winter behind. Speaking of winter, in addition to our normal pre-trip check list, I had to remove snow from the roof of our motorhome and clear a path between the motorhome and the road. Which required a lot of shoveling... Attached are before and after pictures of our motorhome. Our plan to leave early Saturday morning and end our first day of travel in northern Virginia, where we’ll spend the night at Candy Hill Campground. Good news...
