Aug 11, 2018 - A homestead, a manse, a museum and a house.
Today was a rainy all day long. We ate breakfast at the hot breakfast buffet. We left about 9:30 to go to Hillsborough, N.H., to visit the Franklin Pierce Homestead State Historic Site. This was the home of the 14th president of the United States from his infancy until his marriage in 1834. It is a two-story frame built by Pierce's father in 1804. We had to wait a while until the next tour. While waiting we looked at exhibits about Pierce and put some pieces in a presidential theme puzzle. Aug 10, 2018 - Travel day to Concord, N.H.
Today was a beautiful day to travel. We packed and checked out and we were on the road by 8:00. We traveled down Route 1 which passed through many scenic areas and villages, crossing rivers, and passing along the coastal waters. Route 1 never had the speed limit go over 55 MPH, and most of the time you were doing 45, 30, or 25 MPH through the towns and villages. We arrived in Thomaston, Maine to visit the Maine State Prison Showroom. My family would stop here back in the 1960s on our way to Canada.
