May 3, 2017 - Nuthin' happening in Wells

I got on the road in Reno earlier than I usually do. I was on I-80 by 9 a.m. and it would have been slightly sooner if Boots, my cat, hadn't decided to hide. Amazingly, he can actually hide in such places that takes me a bit of time of find him! He's a wonderful traveler, though, and doesn't make a sound on the road. He just curls up on his baby blanket in the carrier and sleeps most of the way. When we park for the day, he just moseys out of his carrier and stretches. Although I usually like to have a couple of cups of coffee and spend...

Adventureland 2017

Sep 16, 2016 - Welcome Station RV Park

This was an amazing RV park. It is a ranch that has added several hook up sites. It is green and beautiful and it is hard to believe it is in Nevada! The dogs loved rolling in the grass!. Towards the back of the large grassy area is a pond and creek. At night, there were some owls in the trees. We almost hated to leave, but we need to get to South Dakota to get our domicile changed!

May 31, 2016 - Winnemucca KOA to Mountain Shadows RV Park

We left Winnemucca this morning and headed to Wells, Nevada. It was a short drive as we want to be in Salt Lake City tomorrow so that we can hear the choir practice on Thursday. It’s nice to have short travel days once in a while. The first ½ or so of the trip was very boring, with straight roads and not much scenery. It was pretty desolate, mostly desert with shrubs. After a while, we started seeing some flowers along the roadside and the scenery was greener than before. There were large snow capped mountains in the distance. In one spot,...

Sep 21, 2015 - Wells NV

We spent an extra night in Reno. On Sunday we drove out without incident, beautiful blue sky, got about 15 miles out on I80 and sat 2 1/2 hours in traffic before having to exit and go back to Reno. There had been an accident at 5 AM with a semi truck across the road, a fatality, guard rail damage. By the time we found out (on CB) that the accident sign meant the road was closed and were able to inch our way off there was no alternate route that would have gotten us to Wells before after dark so it only made sense to go back to the RV park....

2015 Eagle trip

Jul 9, 2015 - Wells

We got up late today and after breakfast drove into Wells and right round the town - not a long journey as it is really small. There was an old part of town that had been preserved called "Front Street, but apparently it was destroyed in and earthquake some years ago and not much is left. We stopped at the Tourist Information Office and were met by a young lady who did not seem ideal for the position. Her response to what one could see in town was, "Not a lot" and did not express any interest as to where we were from or what we were doing...

Jul 8, 2015 - Nevada

We were up, had breakfast and ready to go before 9:00am this morning. We had a good drive through the barren dessert of northern Nevada, stopping at Winnemucca for diesel. We stopped later for lunch at a rest stop. We have noticed that the rest stops in Nevada are spacious and well laid out. This one, Beowawe, was near a river crossing of the Humboldt River. There was a plaque telling of a dispute at this point in the Donner Party where a fight broke out and, missing his protagonist, hit the wife of his enemy. He was killed by the other...

Jul 1, 2015 - Wells, Nevada

Today was very slow and lazy morning as neither Ross nor Marge got out of bed until 0800 hours. Their laziness was tied to today’s travels which was a lousy 50 miles east to Wells, Nevada. The reasons for such a short run today was their reservation in Salt lake City has them entering the Pony Express Campground Thursday and leaving on Monday morning. They were not sure exactly when they would leave home because their leaving date was controlled by the stage of their water damage claim. They needed to be certain that everything was in place...

2015 New York Trip

Jun 18, 2015 - Angel Lake, NV

Well, guys, Angel Lake is another one of the campsites that I cannot describe enough for you to pack your bags and leave tomorrow but believe me it it like camping in paradise. We had to climb an 8 mile winding road with no guard rails, that was at least paved. Mike kept his eyes straight ahead. I looked down occasionally. Once at the site we were overwhelmed. There was a small mountain that still had some snow. A waterfall was running into Angel Lake. We have attached pictures but they do no do it justice, as usual. The funniest thing to...

Takin the Slow Road

May 20, 2015 - On The Road Again

We are now on the road to Butte, Montana and then Canada to Alaska. The anticipation is growing. We have seen many things but Alaska is our real destination. Vin is really getting the feel of driving the RV. He drove for over 2 hours and only quit to use the bathroom. We drove across the northern side of Nevada with views of some of the most beautiful but disturbing mountains. It is the end of May and SNOW is still rearing its cold face. We know it sounds funny that we are going to Alaska and we are not enjoying the snow but remember it...

Rolling Vacation

Oct 3, 2014 - All is well in Wells, Nevada

We've made it to Wells, Nevada. And we are staying at the Angel Lake RV park with a really exciting view of the freeway. Whoopee! But there are not a lot of choices here, as this is one of those wide spots in the road that they talk about. But no one is here either. Maybe they are all staying at the casinos? Anyway we are on our way to Ely, tomorrow and then into Las Vegas on Sunday. We will be staying at Nellis Air Force base in Las Vegas for a week!

Heading to the East!

Sep 2, 2014 - Wells, Nevada

We left Bozeman about 7:45. As we keep picking up an hour it makes it easy to get started earlier. Margaret has planned for us to stop in Twin Falls, Idaho. We had a beautiful ride down through the valleys along the Galletin River. Lots of dude ranches and riding stables in this area. It didn't seem like very long when we entered the Yellowstone National Park. We will pass through the west entrance. After stopping at the west entrance for awhile we continued on to Idaho Falls, fueled up and had some lunch. Margaret started looking for...

Jun 9, 2014 - Angel Lake

You know those moments when you say, “Enough is enough!”… I had one of those today. Allow me to explain… The day started out fine. We took a nice walk this morning around the Wells City Park with the sun shining, a cool mountain breeze keeping the temps in the low 70’s, birds singing, flowers blooming… one of those mornings that makes one feel all is well with the world. After our park walk Willie and I wandered over to the post office, picked up our mail, stopped by the library for a visit, and then enjoyed a nice lunch. So far, so good,...
