Jan 3, 2017 - Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all our family and friends. We started our new year with a lot of snow, we have about five inches on the ground and are expecting three or four more inches tonight. We have been having fun playing in the snow. We wish you all a prosperous, healthy and happy 2017.

Sep 7, 2016 - Verdi, Nevada

We had a short and sweet travel dry from Susanville, California to Verdi, Nevada. It was only about 80 miles. The town of Verdi was named after Giuseppe Verdi by Charles Crocker, founder of the Central Pacific Railroad when he pulled a slip of paper from a hat and read the name of the Italian opera composer in 1868. :-) The name is pronounced by the local population as VUR-dye, a quirk shared with the town of Genoa, Nevada, which is named after the city in Italy but pronounced juh-NO-ah. We will be staying here for a few weeks exploring...

May 10, 2015 - Verdi, NV - Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort

5/10 - 5/17/15 Drove across the street to the Mammoth Lake Welcome Center to check on Tioga Pass…still closed. Onward on Hwy 395N to Lee Vining. The ranger at the Welcome Center told us to stop at the Mobile gas station in Lee Vining for the best view of Mono Lake and good food. We did and the view and food was great. We missed the turnoff to Mono Lake and decided to go back to see the tufas…a nice outing. The temp out of Mammoth Lake as we were driving was in the low 70s…a pleasant change from the low 20s. After a long day of driving, we...

Apr 29, 2013 - Verdi, NV

Had a great weekend on our 2nd of 3 local trips with Ginny & Greg before heading to the Oregon coast on May 15th. Gold Ranch is located West of the Reno-Sparks area just off I-80 and is a local gem. Surrounded by the Sierra's the view from our sites was breathtaking...even though we live close by and see the mountains every day. Still snow up in them thar hills but melting fast with temps in the 80's and clear skies. Found an excellent place to eat that reminded me of some country bars back in Wisconsin. The Sasquatch Bar & Grill is only a...

Sep 17, 2012 - Gold Ranch RV Resort, Verdi, NV

We left Los Banos this morning about 9:30 and arrived in Verdi, Nevada about 2:30. Verdi is about 10 miles from Reno, and what does everyone do when they go to Reno? Right! They go to the Fleischmann Planetarium! Of course, while I was enjoying the $5.00 senior discount full-dome digital star show, Bill was taking a $5.00 senior discount nap! Tomorrow, we're off to Elko, Nevada.

Dec 7, 2011 - We've returned to Verdi, Nevada

It seems like we'e back home after a few days away. We stopped at Costco in Sacramento for fuel at $3.35/gallon. We had forgotten to reduce the pressure in our sleep number bed until we were half way up Donner Summit. We pulled to the side of the road and checked the pressure. It was at the max of 100 and hard as a rock. We dropped the numbers down to 35 and continued up the 7227' summit and down into Verdi. Fortunately, we caught it in time and everything is OK this evening. Sleep Number says they won't explode, we just don't want to...

Oct 29, 2011 - Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort

Upon leaving the Nevada City area, we headed east on Highway 20 further up into the fall colors of the Sierra's. Along the way, I snapped a picture of the some of the remnants of hydrolic mining in this area. They used high pressure cannons called monitors that literally washed the hillsides and landscape away in order to expose those elusive yellow nuggets called gold. About 10 miles west of Reno, we checked into the Gold Ranch RV Resort, a place we have stayed many times when in the Reno area for a weekend. They were offering some deep...

Mar 24, 2011 - BoomTown KOA (Reno, Nevada)

We are @ the "Boomtown" KOA just at the West edge of Reno.... Had to drive thru a Bizzard the last 15 miles or so to get here. Weather was overcast and in the upper 40's, low 50's all the way from Elko, but changed pretty quickly when we got to Sparks, Nv. The campground area has about 4" of fresh snow all over and the temp here is about 36 now, the wind has quieted down now, but snow is still falling. We will plan to stay here a couple of days. by then the storm should be on top of Y'all in Montana and we can get on over the Mountains and...

We spent a week rendezvousing with Kathi & Norm. While John & Norm explored Cabala’s and other nearby stores on a daily bases, Kathi and I were gold mining at the Gold Ranch Casino! Sep 6, 2007 - Verdi, NV

After leaving Alturas, CA, our journey continued south through the high desert and on to Reno, NV. We actually stayed at a casino and RV Park just west of Reno, in Verdi. What a beautiful drive. Everywhere we looked we saw layer upon layer of mountain peaks. We drove into downtown Reno and made the rounds of a few of the casinos, dropping a few obligatory dollars at each one. Dave made up for it, though, on our last night by winning $260 on a quarter machine in the little casino at our campground. What fun!

Our Great Adventure

Jul 11, 2007 - Gold Ranch RV Resort, Verdi NV, Elev 5026

Verdi is the first gambling site from the California border. There are tons of casinos here. The drive through Reno and Sparks was very spetacular, one casino after another. A reader board on the highway noted that there is another fire at the Nevada-California border on I80. I80 is still open but we hope that the fire is controlled before we go through there tomorrow. We've driven through enough smoke for the last week!
