Sep 8, 2019 - Verdi, Nevada

Today we left Elko, Nevada around 0700 heading for the KOA Campground located in Verdi, Nevada also known as Boomtown KOA. The distance was 298 miles and we arrived in Boomtown at noon. The weather was sprinkles at first and then simply overcast. Traffic was light and moving well. The speed limits vary between 75 and 80 along that section of Interstate 80 but Ross only travels at 65 mph when in the motorhome and towing the pickup truck. The road was very good in 90 percent of trip and the overcast stayed for most of the trip. The high...

Feb 20, 2018 - Wiring Repair Reno

We left the campground in Verdi this morning on our trip to Las Vegas. We were supposed to leave yesterday, we had a huge snow with at least 4 or 5 inches on the ground and low temperatures around 9 degrees, so we waited until this morning to leave. We stopped at the gas station to fill our diesel tank in the motorhome, Jerry could only get about a gallon of gas out, he went inside to tell them and they said the tanks were frozen. Yikes! This was definitely a first for us. Thank goodness we had half a tank of gas and could make it to our...

Feb 12, 2018 - On The Road Again Soon

Our time in Reno is almost up, we are preparing to leave next week. I have been very relaxed and lazy about doing updates. We celebrated our anniversary at the Peppermill Resort again this year, we love that awesome hotel. We had a huge suite with our own in-room jacuzzi hot tub, it had a flowing waterfall design that was incredible. We enjoyed dining in several of the many restaurants in the hotel. You could live in this hotel for weeks and not get bored. :-) Our next stop will be in Las Vegas next week. We will be helping Betty with her...

Jan 2, 2018 - Fun With Vickie

We had a wonderful time with Vickie this week. We took her to the top of Donner Summit and back down to lake level to see Donner Lake and the Donner Memorial. We had a great time visiting Virginia City together. We had huge Bonanza burgers in the Delta Saloon Café. We also drove a very scenic drive around Lake Tahoe. The Lake Tahoe Scenic Drive is a beautiful paved drive that makes a 68-mile loop around Lake Tahoe in California and Nevada. The route follows three paved highways: US 50, NV 28 and US 89. Along the way, the scenic drive passes...

Nov 13, 2017 - Very Short Moving Day

We made one of the shortest moves ever today, only a few sites down the row. We asked for this end site when we first arrived and had to wait until it was available. We moved today and love it, we have mountain views from the front and side now. We can't wait to decorate the site for Christmas. I am adding a few pictures of the site and a few of some awesome Christmas decorations around town, Reno goes all out for Christmas. We are hoping for snow tonight too, will add white pictures tomorrow if we get snow. :-) Check back later for more...

Oct 1, 2017 - Verdi, Nevada

This is a quick update to let everyone know we have safely arrived in Verdi, Nevada. We said our goodbyes to new friends from Waldport on Wednesday, we had a nice lunch together and left Waldport early Thursday morning. One of the wonderful pleasures of traveling in our motorhome is making new friends everywhere we go. When we met Gene and Sue we felt like we had known them for years instead of days. We hope our paths meet again very soon. We drove to Canyonville our first travel day, it was about 200 miles. We had a beautiful pull-through...

Sep 11, 2017 - Verdi NV

On the way to Verdi we stopped at Beacon Truck Wash and had the rig washed and put rainex on it. Looks spiffy. How long will it last? Used to be Terrible's but now the campground is Gold Ranch RV Resort and the fees match the title. Oh well. Site is level and place is pretty. We are right next to another HitchHiker just like ours, a little newer and with the 5th slide. Folks are from Roseville. I had hoped to get a picture of both RVs but they left early in the morning. We wanted to watch Jeopardy but about half way through, there was some...

Sep 7, 2016 - Verdi, Nevada

We had a short and sweet travel dry from Susanville, California to Verdi, Nevada. It was only about 80 miles. The town of Verdi was named after Giuseppe Verdi by Charles Crocker, founder of the Central Pacific Railroad when he pulled a slip of paper from a hat and read the name of the Italian opera composer in 1868. :-) The name is pronounced by the local population as VUR-dye, a quirk shared with the town of Genoa, Nevada, which is named after the city in Italy but pronounced juh-NO-ah. We will be staying here for a few weeks exploring...

May 10, 2015 - Verdi, NV - Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort

5/10 - 5/17/15 Drove across the street to the Mammoth Lake Welcome Center to check on Tioga Pass…still closed. Onward on Hwy 395N to Lee Vining. The ranger at the Welcome Center told us to stop at the Mobile gas station in Lee Vining for the best view of Mono Lake and good food. We did and the view and food was great. We missed the turnoff to Mono Lake and decided to go back to see the tufas…a nice outing. The temp out of Mammoth Lake as we were driving was in the low 70s…a pleasant change from the low 20s. After a long day of driving, we...

Apr 29, 2013 - Verdi, NV

Had a great weekend on our 2nd of 3 local trips with Ginny & Greg before heading to the Oregon coast on May 15th. Gold Ranch is located West of the Reno-Sparks area just off I-80 and is a local gem. Surrounded by the Sierra's the view from our sites was breathtaking...even though we live close by and see the mountains every day. Still snow up in them thar hills but melting fast with temps in the 80's and clear skies. Found an excellent place to eat that reminded me of some country bars back in Wisconsin. The Sasquatch Bar & Grill is only a...

Sep 17, 2012 - Gold Ranch RV Resort, Verdi, NV

We left Los Banos this morning about 9:30 and arrived in Verdi, Nevada about 2:30. Verdi is about 10 miles from Reno, and what does everyone do when they go to Reno? Right! They go to the Fleischmann Planetarium! Of course, while I was enjoying the $5.00 senior discount full-dome digital star show, Bill was taking a $5.00 senior discount nap! Tomorrow, we're off to Elko, Nevada.
