Oct 15, 2017 - in the biggest little city

We found a play we wanted to see being performed in downtown Reno, so we waited until today's performance to drive to the central city to see it and the rest of downtown. Reno calls itself a city, but it feels small, especially when you compare it to Las Vegas. The central casino area was easily explored in less than an hour and has 5% of the casinos and hotels LV has. Some of them have seen better days, but the city is trying hard to keep up appearances and attract visitors, both local and international. This weekend about twenty mural...

Sep 9, 2017 - Trains & Saloons

Today was a trip by train from Carson City to Virginia City on the V&T Railroad. The Virginia & Truckee, 21 mile standard gauge line was up & running in 1870 working the Comstock mines & was known as the wealthiest short line in the world. The rest of the history for this line made it world renowned. It ran it's last revenue run in 1950. Our 21 mile 3 hour return trip was really interesting with engineers, brakemen & conductors. Then there was a 3 hour stop in Virginia city walking the boardwalks, visiting the Saloons like Bucket of Blood &...

Sep 8, 2017 - Balloons

Today was Balloon Day! We were up at 3:45 a.m and had our first Uber ride to San Rafael Park for the Glow Show at 5:15 a.m. There are a lot of people every age, walking down a long path through the trees, in the pitch black carrying blankets & wearing jackets. It is brisk this morning. We find a spot on the grass for our chairs & watch the show. Pretty awesome as 90 Hot Air Balloons fire up their burners in time with pre arranged music, lighting up the night. At 7 a.m. is the Mass Ascension of all the balloons, each in their prearranged...

May 4, 2017 - Keystone RV Park, Reno, NV

Leaving Fernley on such a fine day for great weather and having spent a great time with brother and sister leaves us with warm hearts and smiles. On our way, Dave noted Dudley has taken us 2,000 miles already AND this is his tenth overnight stop for us. All this in the nearly 3 months we've had him. "There'll not be any grass growing under our feet!!!" Our coming to Reno is simple, visit kids and grandkids. Our stay here is for 1 month, possibly an extra 4 to 7 days. We'll be getting as much time with them as we can before hitting the...

May 1, 2017 - A new year - a familiar Adventure

It's been a while - two years, three months to be pretty exact, since I've been on the open road with my HitchHiker. My brief reunion with the gang at the B&B REWIND in Vacaville April 2016 can't really count. It was too close to home. And before I begin writing about my current travels (I'm already behind myself) I just must post a few pictures of the incredible adventure I had just last week. I had spent much of the 1990s pretending I was a cowboy. I met new friends and enjoyed adventures that, to me, were unmatched. We lived in an old...

Jan 30, 2017 - Home Sweet Home

We picked up the “Dream” today and moved back in. Yippee! Jerry had to use a snow shovel to make a path between the two RV’s. The campground also sent a man over with a snowplow to clear some of the snow in the driveway so we could bring the RV back in. We moved boxes and unpacked all day. Jerry brought the boxes to the door and I unloaded while he went for more. Jerry will be taking the loaner RV back in the morning. They did a great job on the step and other repairs. We are happy campers again and will be back on the road soon. Check back...

Jan 27, 2017 - RV & Pink Water

Our RV has been repaired and is ready to be picked up, the only problem, our campsite has about two feet of snow. We have to wait and hope it melts by Monday so we can take this one back and move back into ours. We love snow, but this is a bit much. :-) This is not normal for this area, they have broken all kinds of records for snow this year. At least they won’t have to worry about droughts for 2017. I am adding pictures of how deep the snow is, it is a beautiful winter wonderland. We are looking at the temperatures in Las Vegas, Vegas is...

Jan 20, 2017 - Lots of Snow

Just a quickie update to let our readers know we are back in the campground. The snow started falling this morning while we were packing to leave the hotel. We had a great time at the hotel, driving back to the campground was quite a challenge. It looked like a blizzard while driving through Reno. We got about eight inches today, that was on top of a foot we already had. Reno does not usually get this much snow, they said it was a record breaker on the news and the schools are all closed etc. We returned to our loaner RV and enjoyed...

Jan 16, 2017 - Peppermill Resort

We are spending a few days at the Peppermill Resort in Reno. This is a belated birthday trip, we were too busy moving from one RV to the other during my real birthday on the 9th. This is one beautiful hotel, just what the doctor ordered. :-) We are staying in one of the Peppermill Reno's Spa Suites with a 390 square foot room that features a relaxing Jacuzzi tub and a sitting area for two. The views from our windows are amazing. We especially love the huge videos all over the walls in the hotel. Joe Ness, who heads the resort’s...

Jan 15, 2017 - RV Repair & More

When we came to Reno in September we planned to explore for the first month and just have fun. After our month of fun, we planned to get appointments for our annual physicals and have any repairs needed on our motorhome. We stop somewhere in America once each year just to take care of ourselves and whatever needs fixing on the RV. If we didn’t, it would be just like your home or car, you would have a piece of junk before you know it if you don’t keep it up. :-) We are both finished with all our blood work and exams and we are both in great...

Jan 9, 2017 - Reno

Well even though we have been very comfortable at Reno, hopefully we are back on the road tomorrow. Dale took a walk down to the river even though they were warning to stay away. It hasn't gone over the bank you but close, there are only 2 bridges open over it the others closed. Along the strip the only thing we notice is that when we got here there was lots of snow, well the rain made that disappear. We are hoping to leave tomorrow but it sounds like it could be interesting for aways because the interstate was down to only one lane going...

Jan 8, 2017 - Flood

When we got up it was still raining, after a walk outside it was decided to stay another day. T isn't raining that hard but these desert cities aren't equipped for it. We had heard that roads by Sparks were already closed and travel wasn't recommended south. We are at Harrahs and have a view of the river and it is very high and and looks like Rapids it is running so fast. The hotel has two towers connected by a section that is only a few stories high and actually a street goes through the middle so there are a few escalators to navigate to...
