Apr 24, 2017 - Leaving Brenda, AZ for Nevada

The following article was written 24 April, it's been a very busy time the past several weeks. Well, it's April 13th, the day has arrived, when we roll on down the road in our new, to us, motorhome and continue our travels. And so, with the Honda hooked up to the fanny of the motorhome we headed for Las Vegas. At this point, it would be good to tell our readers that we've "discovered the names" for our new vehicles, the Tiffin is Dudley, the Honda is Nell. Yes, we name things and even give them personalities. So Dudley "Do-right" and Nell...

Sep 16, 2015 - VanEmmerik RV Ranch & Spa

We have many things to do while here in the Reno/Carson City area, our former home, including seeing our children, grandchildren, put our former home on the real estate market for sale, One of the surprises we had was a call came from Rebecca's brother Tim asking us to witness his wedding to Sandi. They decided to get married in Reno, they're from Eugene, while we are here. We do it and spend a couple days with them before they drive back to Eugene. We love surprises ! ! ! The next weekend we drove over the Sierras to Sacramento for a...

May 11, 2015 - Back in Reno Nevada

It was and "easy n breezy" drive from Galt north up I-80 to Reno and Carson City area. The 190 miles went by fast as we were intrigued by the many wonderful mountain views afforded us. We were so curious because of the lack of snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains. You've probably heard about the drought in California but it also affects northwestern Nevada, as it's the snow pack that fills their reservoirs, lakes and ground water levels. Lake Tahoe, for instance is more than six feet below it's natural rim, therefore not allowing water from...

Apr 24, 2014 - Van Emmerik Guest Ranch, Mound House, NV

Our usual drive from Las Vegas, right straight up Hwy 95 to Hwy 50, takes us 2 days, as it is 445 miles. However, this day when we got to Hawthorne and it was only 2 p.m, we decided to continue. As it turned out, that was a great decision, the next day, we woke up to snow on the ground. When we left the airbase in Las Vegas the wind was blowing pretty good, about 10 to 15 mph! That combined with a mostly uphill, though slight grade for the first 100 miles brought our mpg way down to the high 9's and low 10's. YIKES ! ! ! But, the further...

Nov 28, 2011 - VanEmmerik RV Ranch, Moundhouse, NV

Departed Eugene about 8 a.m. heading for Mound house, NV we usually split this trip into 2 days, we chose to make in one, with a storm on our back bumper. Pulled into the VanEmmerik RV Ranch just after darkness fell. The drive was 497 miles. We switched drivers several times to make it an easier drive. These fine folks have cleared out a proper place for our coach making a nice RV spot for us. We used to park in their driveway, in front of the garage. We were certainly happy with that, but they wanted more for us. They took out a tree or...

Apr 15, 2011 - VanEmmerik Luxury RV Ranch

It was a nice drive from Hawthorne to Mound House and the VanEmmerik Luxury RV Ranch. We drove from Las Vegas to Hawthorne, a longer than normal single day drive, so our approach to Mound House would be short and get us in mid-morning. Total drive from Las Vegas to Mound House was 450 miles. The VanEmmeriks have a nice little patio we pull upto and hookup to water and electric, the views are nice and the company is great. Our stop here will about 2 weeks for kid and grandkid hugs with doctor visits and meetings with friends thrown in for...

We have some friends to see and wait for the arrival of the new tires and wheels. also while here we'll be going thru the coach to unload some weight and bulk. The coach needs to undergo a weight reduction program. We're looking at all the storage areas. The Big O tire office on Mae...

Oct 19, 2009 - VanEmmerik RV Ranch

A very short drive from Reno GSR took only 45 minutes. We were parked in space #2 as space #1 was already taken. Our purpose at this stop is to recuperate a little from the busyness of all the friendly visits, doctor appts and chores. Since the result of Dave's "Bummer Summer" has been a galactic fishless summer, our host John insisted on a fishing trip to take care of any possible "jinx's". On Wed the two set out in the early morning light for Indian Creek. It is just off hwy 4, near Markleville in Calif. Without bragging too much Dave did...

Apr 18, 2009 - Thriving Metropolis of Mound House, Nv

Our friends John and MJ VanEmmerik live in Mound House, just East of Carson City on a 2 acre plot of land. They offered up an unused 8X8 barn style shed to us for storing our stuff. You see we were going to sort through all the storage items stored in Fallon and go to a 5X10 storage unit from the current 10X10 unit. We're still going to sort like crazy to lighten the shed load. The generosity of the VanEmmeriks saves us $460 AND otherwise unnecessary trip(s) to Fallon. No other reason to go Fallon, if we want or need something from the shed...
