Mar 3, 2020 - Fillmore, UT to Mesquite, NV

Fillmore UT, to Mesquite, NV 3-3-20 The lady at the front desk called me at 10AM to remind me that checkout was 11AM. I have never had this kind of call before. I was determined to stay here as long as possible and so I did. It is my anniversary, after all. Had a big breakfast and coffee before I was forced to leave. Was finally on the road headed south by 10:45AM. I-80 quickly became I-15 near Fillmore. I was lucky enough to share a conference call with Julie and Kate while rolling down the interstate. We decided a three-way call is...

The interstate cuts right thru an area that has colored red towering cliffs.Unfortunately there is no pedestrian access because of how narrow it is. Just stunning,I will see if I can fins a video of this drive and upload it. Today we dropped from the 6000 ft we have been traveling at and came down to a warmer 1600 ft. If we do not update this site...

Oct 31, 2018 - Mesquite, NV and environs

Mesquite, NV and environs 10-31-18 First things first: Happy Halloween! Today we explored Mesquite Nevada because we like this part of the southwest and wanted to check the area out. First, we just drove around the town and through various neighborhoods to get a feel for the place. It’s a small town, but very neat and clean. Plenty of stores and, because it’s on the state line between Nevada and Arizona, lots of casino style resorts. Julie was interested in the Del Webb Sun City development so we went to the sales office...just for fun....

Oct 30, 2018 - Through beautiful south Utah

Through beautiful south Utah 10-30-18 After a pleasant night in Grand Junction and a wholesome breakfast at the Village Inn, we were on the road 10AM sharp. A fine day to travel with temperatures in the 50s, and perfect road conditions. Every time we drive over I-70 through Utah we are amazed by the beauty of this country, which is saying something after leaving Colorado. The scenes are breath taking. We were in 4 states today (Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada). We stopped for the night at the Virgin River Hotel and Casino in Mesquite,...

Just a short 2 hour drive up to Mesquite, Nevada. What a strange setup that is. The Nevada-Arizona State Line splits the town. The campground is actually in Arizona. It's a little cooler today, only 99° F or 37.2 C.

Our appointment to have our airbags replaced was changed to one day later. We drove the RV to the repair shop early this morning. It took quite a bit longer than expected for them to replace them, we ended up leaving Las Vegas around three in the afternoon. We only drove about 80 miles since it was so late when we left. We are in Mesquite, Nevada for the night. Hoping to make our way to Utah tomorrow. Check back later for more from Utah.

Mar 19, 2017 - CasaBlanca Resort

This is another catch-up update from the past couple of weeks. We have been so busy enjoying time with family. We hope everyone had a great Saint Patrick’s Day. We had dinner at the Blueberry Hill Restaurant in Las Vegas. They served a huge plate of corned beef with cabbage, potatoes, and carrots. Betty gave us the cutest leprechaun figurine, we named him Leftie. :-) We also spent a few days on a mini-vacation in Mesquite, Nevada with Betty. Mesquite is about 80 miles from Las Vegas. We stayed at the incredible CasaBlanca Resort and enjoyed...

Apr 8, 2016 - Rainy But Fun Trip to Jane and Jim's

Made three stops on my way to Mesquite. The first was the Ethel M candy factory in Henderson. Ethel was the mother of Forrest Mars - creator of M&M's and founder of the Mars candy empire. Not much going on at the factory today and I didn't think it necessary to walk a cactus garden after spending six months in the desert! On my way into Las Vegas I stopped at the Pinball Hall of Fame. We owned a pinball machine for years and the kids and I used to have "challenges" all the time. Owen is the proud owner of that Bally machine and keeps it in...

Apr 2, 2015 - Shelby American and Valley of Fire

Days like today are why I love to be on the road. Before leaving the Las Vegas area this morning, I went on a 2 hour tour of the Shelby American factory and museum. Mustang and Shelby Cobra fans flock here. Our guide worked with Carroll Shelby from the early years and he knew everything. He told us about Carroll's early years, his attempt at chicken farming, his war exploits, and most of all his racing career. Carroll's first race was in an MG -TC! We learned about his "feud" with Ferrari, his alliance with Lee Iacocca at Ford and how the...

Aug 16, 2013 - Mesquite, Nevada

Our first day on the road went smoothly! We stopped at In-N-Out for lunch so that Doug could have his last "Double-Double" for a few months! We sped past Stateline and Las Vegas. My pictures were almost a blur!!! The temp as we crossed Death Valley reached 116 degrees and I was fading fast! As I gaze out the window at the barren landscape, I try to imagine what the early pioneers endured as they traveled this same route! We arrived at our campsite by 6:00 p.m. and began unloading the jeep. I suspect I packed more than I will ever wear on...

May 19, 2013 - Nevada and Hoover Dam

On the way to Mesquite, NV ( our base for Hoover Dam) we stopped at Pipe Spring National Monument. An interesting, beautiful spring in the desert used for years by native Americans and Mormons. Went into parts of 3 states -AZ, UT and NV to get to our RV park in Mesquite. The trip through the Virgin River Canyon was quite a ride! A massive canyon with steep sides and steep downhills...whoo-hoo! Arrived at Sun Resorts RV Park which is just what they are when they say park...a place to park your RV. It was quite new, near a grocery store and...
