Nov 9, 2016 - World's Toughest Mudder, Las Vegas, NV

(Ryan and Jesse Kidd, this is for you!) We arrived in Las Vegas for almost a week. Our kids came! Jesse and Ryan both ran the World’s Toughest Mudder! Their friend Allie Jared ran with them. They have all done Mudders before for five years. A Tough Mudder race is usually about 10 miles, with a lot of obstacles to climb over, or under, or through, in the air, on the ground, under water, or in mud. And it is usually one lap. No race, no prizes, just fun and teamwork. This one is 24 hours and the route is 5 miles long. The object is to make...

Oct 26, 2016 - Las Vegas NV

I was wrong, oh so very wrong. Saturday was a very light day on board the used-to-be-rolling home. After Friday’s adventure there really was no other smart option so we didn’t do anything other than look forward to the next time I could take my pain pills. Then since Sunday morning started with no reduction in the pain, but I did add a fever and nausea to the mix, we saddled up and headed back to the hospital. It was a bit busier at noon than it was at 5:00 in the morning on Friday so we had to do some more waiting, but since I was a recent...

Oct 22, 2016 - Las Vegas NV

Well our departure didn’t go as planned, but I did finally win something in Vegas...a kidney stone! I woke up Friday morning just before 4:00 with some serious pain in my lower left back and by 5:00 I had decided that it was time to wake the little woman to schlep me to the ER. As it turns out, that was a very, very good decision. I ended up having a CAT scan, morphine, toradol and dilaudid and a big old IV for breakfast – though all things considered, I would have preferred a couple Pop Tarts and a Coke. After all the tests, vomiting and...

Oct 22, 2016 - End Days at Mob City

Oct 17-22 This week was our last week in Vegas. Tomorrow we start heading home. This part of the country has definitely grown on both of us. We‘ll be back! The mountains are captivating sitting there stoically, catching the sun’s rays which constantly change their features. The city streets are well paved, with enough lanes laid out to be driver friendly. The drivers are courteous for the most part. The overpasses, freeway entrances, and empty street corners are decorated in stone and concrete patterns, making the otherwise drab...

Oct 21, 2016 - Las Vegas NV

As predicted, Thursday’s drive to Las Vegas was about 3 hours of mostly not-so-tough 2 lane desert roads. We took California Hwy 190 south and east from Furnace Creek to Death Valley Junction where we picked up the State Line Highway into Pahrump then east on Hwy 160 to our home at the very, very nice Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort. We got all set up and I made a call to have the house washed Friday morning – owners aren’t allowed to wash their houses, but you can freely pay a company to do it because they bring their own water. And I’m sure...

Oct 17, 2016 - Still Vegas

We are enjoying our time here in Vegas. We are making use of the pool, have been to the Planet Hollywood & Excalibur on the Strip. Janet, my sister & Rodger, her hubby arrived on the 13th. We did the Freemont Experience and it is definitely an experience. We ate, drank, gambled, saw some really strange, very strange entertainment in the street & got home at 3:15 am. The sisters were going to do the Freemont Street Zip Line but the bookings were full until the next day! So they got these SPECIAL Beverages to make themselves feel a little...

Oct 15, 2016 - Las Vegas, Nevada

Oct 15 and 16 These were a couple of days to do some work around the trailer and some things around town. We headed into town with no particular destination in mind and ended up around casinos Mirage, Treasure Island, and the Grand Canal. They are over the top in … everything. Treasure Island has 2 pirate ships on opposing sides of the walkway to get into the casino that used to engage in mock fights. I don’t know if they still do or not; we didn’t see them in action. We went into Treasure Island casino to watch some players lose their...

Oct 14 What did we do today? Why, we went to see all the folks Larry has seen on the TV from the History Channel. First we tried the Pawn Shop, but I failed the mention that the TV people usual shot in the morning and we didn’t get on our way until way late. So by the time we got there, the line to get in was too long. While we waited we had good barbeque in the place next door, which just happens to be owned by Rick, the proprietor of the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. They have a (pardon the pun) gold mine there. We were told that Rick usual...

Oct 12 A driving day from Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. It was uneventful except for a stretch of old Route 66 that we took for about 20 miles. It was really neat, including 3 sets of Burma-Shave signs that we saw. The last one I got in pictures. What a treat to see them again! And the city that we passed through. All the buses and people walking around and the old vehicles sitting around and just taking in everything that is Route 66. Amazing. Oct 13 Went to see Hoover Dam today, and it was an experience. We were here 30 years ago with the...

Oct 11, 2016 - Viva Las Vegas but I’m glad yo no vivo alla

We just had a couple of days in Laz Vegas. We left Saint George pretty early – wanted to get out of there. We had booked The Mirage in Las Vegas for 3 nights, but, given check-in wasn’t until 3pm, we first visited Hoover Dam. Pretty good! Packed, but still good. We even did an underground tour where we got to see some of the tunnels and the power generators. It was a bit scary driving into Las Vegas. We’d been on country roads and in country towns for so long that the idea of heavy, fast-moving city traffic was a bit daunting. We even...

Oct 10, 2016 - Happy Thanksgiving

We are enjoying Las Vegas. The temperature is running 85-90 degrees during the days & high 50's at night. I have been spending a lot of time doing my bookkeeping so we haven't done too much exploring yet but I am finished now so will get started. Just wanted to take some time here to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. A time to reflect on our blessings, and having family & friends is one of ours.
