Oct 14, 2016 - Las Vegas, Nevada

Oct 14 What did we do today? Why, we went to see all the folks Larry has seen on the TV from the History Channel. First we tried the Pawn Shop, but I failed the mention that the TV people usual shot in the morning and we didn’t get on our way until way late. So by the time we got there, the line to get in was too long. While we waited we had good barbeque in the place next door, which just happens to be owned by Rick, the proprietor of the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. They have a (pardon the pun) gold mine there. We were told that Rick usual...

Oct 12, 2016 - Las Vegas, Nevada

Oct 12 A driving day from Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. It was uneventful except for a stretch of old Route 66 that we took for about 20 miles. It was really neat, including 3 sets of Burma-Shave signs that we saw. The last one I got in pictures. What a treat to see them again! And the city that we passed through. All the buses and people walking around and the old vehicles sitting around and just taking in everything that is Route 66. Amazing. Oct 13 Went to see Hoover Dam today, and it was an experience. We were here 30 years ago with the...

Oct 12, 2016 - Valley of Fire

Tuesday Oct. 11th we drove to the Valley of Fire Park the oldest park in Nevada, which offered a nice supply of view stops, picnic tables & porto potties scattered throughout. There are numerous hiking trails & some campgrounds. An interesting history & geological formation of the area (once a sea) can be found in the info center.

Oct 11, 2016 - Viva Las Vegas but I’m glad yo no vivo alla

We just had a couple of days in Laz Vegas. We left Saint George pretty early – wanted to get out of there. We had booked The Mirage in Las Vegas for 3 nights, but, given check-in wasn’t until 3pm, we first visited Hoover Dam. Pretty good! Packed, but still good. We even did an underground tour where we got to see some of the tunnels and the power generators. It was a bit scary driving into Las Vegas. We’d been on country roads and in country towns for so long that the idea of heavy, fast-moving city traffic was a bit daunting. We even...

Oct 10, 2016 - Happy Thanksgiving

We are enjoying Las Vegas. The temperature is running 85-90 degrees during the days & high 50's at night. I have been spending a lot of time doing my bookkeeping so we haven't done too much exploring yet but I am finished now so will get started. Just wanted to take some time here to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. A time to reflect on our blessings, and having family & friends is one of ours.

Oct 8, 2016 - Las Vegas...here and gone

Well....we are in Las Vegas ---Yay....well, not really. We are not going to see anything, do anything...just, sigh, stay over night in a very overpriced RV park where we cannot even get our satellite to work. Oh, and for added insult to injury, one of our slides is dead..or it is on it's last leg. Coughing and spitting, opening only half way... Fortunately, my DH (dear husband) can get it manually closed so we should be fine till we get to Phoenix tomorrow. Yesterday, we stayed in Ely, Nevada and were able to spend the day with our good...

Oct 6, 2016 - Mobs - Las Vegas Baby

Monday Oct 3rd. We left the moisture of Lake Havasu on the #95 highway to enter the desert again. We are back into California going by the Mohave National Preserve Park & the highway #40 west into Nevada. We have been slowly climbing to a higher elevation of 2300 ft. Another agricultural check point between California & Arizona. I forgot to mention earlier the Border Patrol checkpoint in California. Apparently heading north on the highway everyone gets stoped for inspection. Illegal’s is the purpose this time. Also I don’t think I mentioned...

Sep 25, 2016 - Headed south to Las Vegas

We headed east on I-80 out of Reno to Fallon, Nevada and then turned south on US95 to Las Vegas. A little over 450 miles through the desert country. It was a long drive with few towns, Hawthorne, Tonopah and Beatty before arriving in Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon. We spent the night at Arizona Charlies RV Park on Saturday before moving over to Thousand Trails on Sunday for the next three weeks. We had reserved one of the rooms at the Worldmark resort in Las Vegas to surprise Cynthia for her birthday. Son Sean flew in for her birthday and...

Aug 30, 2016 - Las Vegas

It was a long hot day driving over mountains and across the desert. The roads at the beginning were excellent winding roads over wooded mountains. In the afternoon it was very hot (44C, 110F!) but when we reached Vegas it lived up to expectations. We were allowed to park the cars outside the front door of the hotel in a row and they attracted a lot of attention. Of course everything was huge, brash and noisy but we managed not to gamble. Dinner was in St Mark's Square as we were staying in the Venezia Hotel. We could see a beautiful blue...

Jun 15, 2016 - From Travis AFB, California to Las Vegas, Nevada

After a RV and Jeep tune-up, we finally got back on schedule and hit the road on May 7th, Julieann’s birthday. The Houston kids (as she calls our three daughters in Texas) made dinner reservations near where we were scheduled to stay for the weekend and our Hawaiian daughter & husband gave her a handful of money to spend. The restaurant was in a very nice resort right on the banks of Bass Lake. Of course, my GPS had a problem navigating through the mountains, but a kindly security guard escorted us to the restaurant – and we were only ½...

2016 Travels

May 26, 2016 - !!!!!!! CENSORED !!!!! Not for children

Downtown Freemont Street - some very strange people. There are a lot of homeless in Vegas, sleeping on the sidewalks just outside of the "Strip". The areas outside of the Strip are really seedy. A lot of prostitution. The pictures you see above are how some people make their money. Donations for a picture (or not).

May 24, 2016 - Las Vegas, NV

Today we toured the Las Vegas Strip. Went into the Luxor Hotel but they did away with a lot of the Sphinx statues and the Nile River inside. disappointing. We also went to the Mob Museum. That was really interesting. Back to Sam's Town to the Buffet - great day.
