Mar 7, 2017 - las Vegas RV Resort

Well after 6 great days in a new park in a familiar area it was time to move on to Vegas and get ready for race week. We had super weather for the visit of Randi's friend from High Level Alta. Lots of laughs, bit of wagering, pool time, too much food and all the shopping 2 ladies could fit into 5 days. Lauren was as white as driven snow when she arrived and left with a real head start on her summer tan. I said she was as red as a lobster but what do I know. Enjoyed the Atlanta race a lot but fell off the smoking wagon after quite a few...

Mar 4, 2017 - Fun With Family

We are having a wonderful time visiting family in Vegas. We spent last weekend at Betty’s and had Cameron over. I am trying to catch up on my updates. :-) Betty has three bedrooms with plenty of room for all of us to stay. We all went out for Japanese food at the Osaka Japenese Bistro, we had the teppanyaki hibachi style Japanese where they cook everything on a huge grill with a fantastic show. We were impressed with the chef as well as the food, both were fantastic. He took onions and made a volcano out of the rings and set it on fire, it...

Feb 28, 2017 - Las Vegas

Feb 28, 2017 it is a beautiful, bright, sunny day with clouds over the mountains. So sorry for all of you in the Pacific Northwest with the snow and ice. The major change in California this trip is that everything is green. We are headed into the Tehachapi mountains on SR 58. Orange trees and date trees on both sides of the road. We are stopping for fuel, WOW, $3.24 per gallon!! In this area the railroad parallels the highway except at one point the Tehachapi Look. The area is hilly with lots of curves. The Tehachapi Loop is a 0.73-mile...

Dec 1, 2016 - Calamity

I knew in advance that this would be a difficult week for me. I didn’t realize how difficult. Saturday would have been my 45th wedding anniversary with my late wife. It’s always hard getting through these annual reminders. Sigh.. A series of unfortunate events started when I brought my RV in for what, I thought, would be minor warranty repairs. After they investigated, they said it wouldn’t be easy to fix. I would need to come back to Las Vegas in two weeks to get the work done. And, it might require a third visit in January. Sigh.. I was...

Nov 24, 2016 - Civilization

My next stop was Las Vegas, Nevada. I’ve spent the last month living out in the wilderness. No people, no traffic, few noises. Imagine what it’s like to be happily driving in the desert and suddenly come upon Las Vegas. Traffic jams, crowds, bright lights, and constant noise. Back at The Slabs, the residents had nothing and seemed quite happy that way. Here in Vegas, it’s all about glitz and glamor. Gamblers hoping to make it rich. Showgirls seeking fame. Obvious drug addicts and homeless everywhere you turn. Even saw a used needle lying on...

Nov 9, 2016 - World's Toughest Mudder, Las Vegas, NV

(Ryan and Jesse Kidd, this is for you!) We arrived in Las Vegas for almost a week. Our kids came! Jesse and Ryan both ran the World’s Toughest Mudder! Their friend Allie Jared ran with them. They have all done Mudders before for five years. A Tough Mudder race is usually about 10 miles, with a lot of obstacles to climb over, or under, or through, in the air, on the ground, under water, or in mud. And it is usually one lap. No race, no prizes, just fun and teamwork. This one is 24 hours and the route is 5 miles long. The object is to make...

Oct 26, 2016 - Las Vegas NV

I was wrong, oh so very wrong. Saturday was a very light day on board the used-to-be-rolling home. After Friday’s adventure there really was no other smart option so we didn’t do anything other than look forward to the next time I could take my pain pills. Then since Sunday morning started with no reduction in the pain, but I did add a fever and nausea to the mix, we saddled up and headed back to the hospital. It was a bit busier at noon than it was at 5:00 in the morning on Friday so we had to do some more waiting, but since I was a recent...

Oct 22, 2016 - End Days at Mob City

Oct 17-22 This week was our last week in Vegas. Tomorrow we start heading home. This part of the country has definitely grown on both of us. We‘ll be back! The mountains are captivating sitting there stoically, catching the sun’s rays which constantly change their features. The city streets are well paved, with enough lanes laid out to be driver friendly. The drivers are courteous for the most part. The overpasses, freeway entrances, and empty street corners are decorated in stone and concrete patterns, making the otherwise drab...

Oct 22, 2016 - Las Vegas NV

Well our departure didn’t go as planned, but I did finally win something in Vegas...a kidney stone! I woke up Friday morning just before 4:00 with some serious pain in my lower left back and by 5:00 I had decided that it was time to wake the little woman to schlep me to the ER. As it turns out, that was a very, very good decision. I ended up having a CAT scan, morphine, toradol and dilaudid and a big old IV for breakfast – though all things considered, I would have preferred a couple Pop Tarts and a Coke. After all the tests, vomiting and...

Oct 21, 2016 - Las Vegas NV

As predicted, Thursday’s drive to Las Vegas was about 3 hours of mostly not-so-tough 2 lane desert roads. We took California Hwy 190 south and east from Furnace Creek to Death Valley Junction where we picked up the State Line Highway into Pahrump then east on Hwy 160 to our home at the very, very nice Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort. We got all set up and I made a call to have the house washed Friday morning – owners aren’t allowed to wash their houses, but you can freely pay a company to do it because they bring their own water. And I’m sure...

Oct 17, 2016 - Still Vegas

We are enjoying our time here in Vegas. We are making use of the pool, have been to the Planet Hollywood & Excalibur on the Strip. Janet, my sister & Rodger, her hubby arrived on the 13th. We did the Freemont Experience and it is definitely an experience. We ate, drank, gambled, saw some really strange, very strange entertainment in the street & got home at 3:15 am. The sisters were going to do the Freemont Street Zip Line but the bookings were full until the next day! So they got these SPECIAL Beverages to make themselves feel a little...

Oct 15, 2016 - Las Vegas, Nevada

Oct 15 and 16 These were a couple of days to do some work around the trailer and some things around town. We headed into town with no particular destination in mind and ended up around casinos Mirage, Treasure Island, and the Grand Canal. They are over the top in … everything. Treasure Island has 2 pirate ships on opposing sides of the walkway to get into the casino that used to engage in mock fights. I don’t know if they still do or not; we didn’t see them in action. We went into Treasure Island casino to watch some players lose their...
