Apr 15, 2005 - Las Vegas

With an eight hour bus journey punctuated only by a brief stop at Barstow (skankiness personified) we arrived in Vegas, where waiting for Terry at the Greyhound station it became pretty clear that downtown Vegas does not purvey the glitz and glamour of the strip. Arriving at Terry's, however, was like being given the keys to your 5 star hotel suite - an interior befitting of a design magazine, a pool and Jacuzzi set in a gorgeous yard and a guest bed so big you had to extend an arm to touch. Pictures and paintings lay testament to Terry's...

Apr 15, 2005 - Viva Las Vegas

After a minor detour through Sedona we hit the trail to Las Vegas. Both looking forward to cleaning the Casinos out and winning back the cost of our trip. Driving in from the south we had the oppourtunity to visit see the Hoover Dam. From here Vegas was only a stones throw and so we arrived late afternoon. Quite a change from the peace and tranquility of the Grand Canyon. Finding a hotel on the Strip we made our way down to the casino floor with our $100 per head kitties. Mr. P. sticking with Blackjack, Mrs. P taking up roulette. Our first...

Apr 7, 2005 - Viva LAS (Las Vegas)

VEGA$ BABY! A good way to get someone out of your mind is to go to Vegas. I went for a night with my cousin Dennis. I flew Ted (United's low-cost airline), while Dennis took American (he's a mileage freak). Both flights took a quick 47 minutes, but it was good they did not depart at the same time. That gave Dennis enough time to rent a car and pick me up. But I have no idea why he rented a car. We were only going to the Strip, so that was a total waste of money. THE hotel We checked into "THE hotel" at Mandalay Bay. This was my first time...

Apr 6, 2005 - Las Vegas

Anyone who has been to Las Vegas will be familiar with the following saying "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" so unfortunately thats all we can tell you.... Ok Ok we'll fill you in on some details. Vegas is a trip - one massive theme park for adults. The strip is roughly 3 miles long of wall to wall hotel / casinos - but don't think Burswood or even Crown. These hotels are massive and each has a theme: New York New York, the Venetician, Ceasars' Palace, Circus Circus, Paris, Treasure Island etc etc. They are incredibly well done with...

Mar 24, 2005 - Musings at home...

"One ought, every day at least, hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, speak a few reasonable words". --Goethe Although this has been the trip of our young lifetimes, we are ready to go home, For Diana, sitting with Payson and enjoying a cup of tea in the backyard is a siren song. For Chris, it's the prospect of working in a new kitchen with old and new colleagues (and getting a much needed haircut!). The warmth of the desert sun and smiling faces of friends and family are what we miss...

Feb 18, 2005 - Vegas, baby !

After a day of travelling, finally arrived in Las Vegas at about 5pm. As we are coming in to land, I saw all the crazy hotels of the famous Strip and thought, this is going to be a crazy city. Guess what, it really is ! That night, I met up with a few guys from the Hostel and we went partying from 7pm to 7am ! Time is reversed here, people sleep during the day and go out at night for the party scene, it is a party night every single night of the week because people here are either tourists or business people going to a convention and then...

Feb 11, 2005 - Back in Las Vegas

We had a wonderful flight from Hawaii to Las Vegas. We will be spending one night and resting before our flight home in the morning. We are staying in the Orleans Hotel. We are both pretty tired from the flight and will be ordering dinner in before getting some sleep. Nothing exciting to report. :-)

Feb 9, 2005 - A Note Before I Leave

I was going to post all the photos that I have been collecting over the past couple of weeks of everyone - however, being technologically challenged, that is probably going to have to wait until a later entry. For right now I would just like to say that I will miss you all. I find it amazing that over the past four years I have become friends with such amazing people as you all. People keep asking me if I'm nervous or scared and I have to say - probably because this hasn't really hit me yet - but as of right now I am neither. I know that...

Feb 1, 2005 - More From Vegas

We are having a wonderful time in Vegas. We enjoyed exploring this incredible hotel as well as the Vegas Strip. Contentment and opulence are the hallmarks of the Bellagio luxury hotel experience. We feel so blessed staying in this outstanding AAA Five Diamond Award-winning Las Vegas hotel. Thanks again, Jerry & Kim! We had a wonderful dinner at Cafe Bellagio and walked around the lobby and enjoyed the view. One funny thing happened while having our dinner, we saw a bird flying around in the restaurant, he couldn't find the way out. I...

Feb 1, 2005 - Viva Las Vegas!!

We planned to stay in Vegas for about four days. We got a really good deal on a hotel, located right on the end of 'The Strip', called The Sahara. It was ok but had seen better days. In it's day The Rat Pack, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe all stayed and performed there. We restricted our gambling to the cheapest slot machines and had a couple of wins, totalling about a huge $10!!!! Vegas is a glorified Blackpool but still really fun and worth a visit. The hotels and casinos are all very glam and over the top but great at the same time. We wanted...

the flight.....not an exit row seat...not an aisle seat.. seated between a couple of young women who appeared to have most of their luggage in their seat with them..from make up bags to the collected works of lonely planet... suffice to say ....its a long way!!! L A airport ...welcome to the USA...ctually very efficient...75 min from touchdown to legitimated visitor ... fingerprinted and mugshot and all... the airports efficiency seems dependent on the legions of no nonsense black and hispanic women who manouver the hordes through the...
