Jun 10, 2017 - Shopping - dinner & show

With 6 others in tow it was off for some shopping - dance shoes, healthy whole foods market, electronics and browsing. Loved the Tofu Teriyaki at the Whole Foods market. Ticket booth browsing - sorted. With tickets for an Italian dinner in the Venetian and the Le Reve show at the Wynn it was time to head back to the hotel for a short feet up. Dinner at Casanova and then onto the show. Comfy seats :-) I can understand why Le Reve is rated 'top show' in Vegas. SPECTACULAR Walked a few kms today.

Where is Shirley?

Jun 9, 2017 - Las Vegas here we come

PN - Akld - LA - Las Vegas. After long travels, a quick shower and then it was off to introduce the group to a taste of Las Vegas. Firstly up to the Level 107 Lounge bar at the top of the Stratosphere tower for 'Happy hour'. Chocolate Martin's, light snacks and a great view. Then onto Freemont Street for the light show. Slept well that night.

Where is Shirley?

Jun 2, 2017 - It's VEGAS, Baby

After numerous delays (Delta) we finally arrived in Las Vegas just before midnight. Delta was nice enough to upgrade us to First Class (I don't know why; just happy they did. Free vodka always tastes better than any I pay for). After finding our bags, we found the spot to wait for the trip to the “off site” car rental @ only $700 for a month’s rental), but stood in line for an hour to get the rental car. We finally checked into the Wyndham Vacation Resort at almost 2AM. This unit has more than a lot of apartments: full kitchen, LR w/flat...

2017 Travels

Apr 25, 2017 - LA to Las Vegas - NOT COMPLETE

Early checkout from our not so delightful hotel. It did the job and was in a convenient location as far as public transport goes so that was an advantage. It's our first Uber experience today so we are leaving early to make sure we get to the Greyhound depot in plenty of time. Were also not sure how bad the traffic will be and if Google maps time estimates take this into account. All worked well...Maria, our driver arrived within 5 minutes, the trip took the time expected (we travelled in the car pool lane and then express lane) and we had...

Apr 10, 2017 - A windy drive to Las Vegas

The drive to Las Vegas was one of those through the middle of the country. Once we got to Dallas and were delayed by the strong winds in west Texas, gave us a chance to spend some more time with Mikes Aunt and Uncle. We finally go tired of waiting and went up into the panhandle of Texas and headed west on I-40. The winds were still strong, 25-30 mph but at least they were blowing straight into us. Great for the gas mileage. Some of the attached pictures give you and idea just how little there is from Texas up to Las Vegas. We arrived and...

Apr 3, 2017 - Las Vegas

We went into Las Vegas yesterday and did some sight seeing, we had bunny with us so we couldn't get out much. Today we left her in the camper with the air conditioner on and went in to see the sights and do some gambling. We were doing OK, winning some and loosing some. Then Cindy hit on the poker machine with 5 of a kind and maximum bet. She cashed out real quick and we left there. Next we went to a casino that the lady from the campground had told us about. It was also good and they had a lunch buffy. With me being a veteran we got the...

Mar 8, 2017 - Frank and Jackie

This afternoon we drove to Las Vegas so I could catch a flight to Cincinnati. Our plan was to pick up friends (we were spending the night with them) as they came in to the airport from a trip to Colorado. Great I thought. We can find our way around the airport so getting there in the morning will be easier. Hah! We got there at rush hour with me and the gypsy and maps trying to direct Don in to the correct terminal to pick up our friends. After 2 tries, and a text from Frank saying they would be late, we found a place to eat. No point in...

Fun between jobs

Mar 7, 2017 - las Vegas RV Resort

Well after 6 great days in a new park in a familiar area it was time to move on to Vegas and get ready for race week. We had super weather for the visit of Randi's friend from High Level Alta. Lots of laughs, bit of wagering, pool time, too much food and all the shopping 2 ladies could fit into 5 days. Lauren was as white as driven snow when she arrived and left with a real head start on her summer tan. I said she was as red as a lobster but what do I know. Enjoyed the Atlanta race a lot but fell off the smoking wagon after quite a few...

Mar 4, 2017 - Fun With Family

We are having a wonderful time visiting family in Vegas. We spent last weekend at Betty’s and had Cameron over. I am trying to catch up on my updates. :-) Betty has three bedrooms with plenty of room for all of us to stay. We all went out for Japanese food at the Osaka Japenese Bistro, we had the teppanyaki hibachi style Japanese where they cook everything on a huge grill with a fantastic show. We were impressed with the chef as well as the food, both were fantastic. He took onions and made a volcano out of the rings and set it on fire, it...

Feb 28, 2017 - Las Vegas

Feb 28, 2017 it is a beautiful, bright, sunny day with clouds over the mountains. So sorry for all of you in the Pacific Northwest with the snow and ice. The major change in California this trip is that everything is green. We are headed into the Tehachapi mountains on SR 58. Orange trees and date trees on both sides of the road. We are stopping for fuel, WOW, $3.24 per gallon!! In this area the railroad parallels the highway except at one point the Tehachapi Look. The area is hilly with lots of curves. The Tehachapi Loop is a 0.73-mile...

Dec 1, 2016 - Calamity

I knew in advance that this would be a difficult week for me. I didn’t realize how difficult. Saturday would have been my 45th wedding anniversary with my late wife. It’s always hard getting through these annual reminders. Sigh.. A series of unfortunate events started when I brought my RV in for what, I thought, would be minor warranty repairs. After they investigated, they said it wouldn’t be easy to fix. I would need to come back to Las Vegas in two weeks to get the work done. And, it might require a third visit in January. Sigh.. I was...

Nov 24, 2016 - Civilization

My next stop was Las Vegas, Nevada. I’ve spent the last month living out in the wilderness. No people, no traffic, few noises. Imagine what it’s like to be happily driving in the desert and suddenly come upon Las Vegas. Traffic jams, crowds, bright lights, and constant noise. Back at The Slabs, the residents had nothing and seemed quite happy that way. Here in Vegas, it’s all about glitz and glamor. Gamblers hoping to make it rich. Showgirls seeking fame. Obvious drug addicts and homeless everywhere you turn. Even saw a used needle lying on...
