Jul 27, 2018 - Nevada, Part 2

Today was our 44th anniversary and we spent it in Las Vegas. I would tell you what we did but you know the saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” Oh, okay, I guess I can made an exception this one time. We visited Hoover Dam in the morning. You have to go through a security checkpoint to reach the dam. We walked about halfway across the top of the dam. Again, size is deceptive. Maybe it’s the size of the canyon that the dam spans that makes the concrete structure seem smaller than it really is. Boulder City, which sprung up to...

Jul 26, 2018 - Nevada, Part 1

It was a frustrating and expensive day. It began in Williams when we needed a new front tire on the car and it ended in Las Vegas when we finally gave in and replaced the rear roof air conditioner in the motor home. We discovered yesterday when we left Albuquerque (I hope this is the last time I have to remember how to spell Albuquerque) that one of the tires on the car was losing air. This morning we went to a tire shop to have the tire patched. But the pinhole was very close to the sidewall and the technician said the patch might not...

May 8, 2018 - Las Vegas, Nevada

We have moved a bit further north. The RV is parked at the FamCamp on Nellis Air Force Base north of Las Vegas, Nevada. We got here yesterday and we will spend one more night here. The US Air Force Thunderbirds do a lot of practice here in the area for upcoming airshows all over the US. There was a nice flyover in a Diamond-shaped pattern with 6 jets. but, alas, I did not have the camera ready. I did catch a glimpse of one plane on my phone. We have done the "sightseeing" thing here before, so we limited our activites to visiting some...

May 8, 2018 - Housekeeping

Today we got caught up on the laundry, cleaned up the motorhome some and emptied the holding tanks. We pull out tomorrow and head north for a couple of hours to our next stop. Will need to fill the propane tank soon. We went to the Olive Garden for supper. Good food but way too much. I think we brought home enough for lunch and supper tomorrow. The temperature when we came out of the Olive Garden was 41° C or 105.8° F. Time to find somewhere cooler!

May 7, 2018 - Sam's Town Casino

The heat was just too much yesterday. It got up to 99° F or 37° C. Didn't go out last night. This morning, we wondered around "Sam's Town Casino". It seems you can't look or move anywhere without spotting a casino of so sort. The one disappointing thing was that all of them allowed smoking on the gaming floor. Tonight, we're going to take the shuttle bus in to the strip and get a view of the night life and lights. Just 2 more tourists. Should be a hoot.

May 6, 2018 - Las Vegas Blvd.

Typical tourists, we saved Sunday morning to take a drive down "The Strip." Typical tourists, we didn't charge up the camera and had to use Sue's cellphone. The pictures still turned out great for the middle of the morning. Can't wait to see it at night with a charged camera. We did drive past the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop from TV but couldn't get near the parking lot. The Strip is quite a sight... nothing but LED billboards from one end to the other.

May 5, 2018 - Valley of Fire

We got an early start to the day today. They're predicting triple digit temperatures for the weekend so we headed north to the Valley of Fire State Park. What a beautiful, scenic driving tour. There were a number of areas that you could park and hiking anyone of the numerous trails. There were a number of people that did. We got back to the campground around 1:30... time for a drink and a dip in the pool!

May 4, 2018 - Red Rock Canyon

We drove west about 40 minutes to Red Rock Canyon National Park. What a well maintained and groomed national park. Absolutely beautiful. The scenic drive loop with lots of pull offs and parking areas is about 13 miles long and a joy to drive.

May 3, 2018 - Hoover Dam

Mark Price from Desert Mobile RV Repair replaced our rooftop AC this morning. Working like a charm. Excellent timing too... supposed to hit triple digit temperatures this weekend. Went and picked up a few groceries. After lunch we drove to the Hoover Dam. Quite the tourist draw. Sue and I both thought that it didn't look as big and imposing as you see on TV and in movies.

May 2, 2018 - Leaving Grand Canyon for Las Vegas

Can't believe it! Woke up this morning with the intention of heading for Las Vegas. Surprise! 8 inches of wet heavy snow. We had breakfast, staring out the windows the whole time. Got the ladder and cleaned of all the slide toppers so that we could retract them. Got all hooked up and made our way out of the park. Temperature was 3° C. Was an interesting drive for the first 3 hours. Drove through snow, rain, sleet, sunshine and dark threatening sky's. Pulled into Las Vegas with temperatures of 23° C. Enjoy the pictures.

Apr 16, 2018 - Day 21 in Vegas, and hopefully our last

I noticed yesterday as we came through the gatehouse there was a handwritten sign with this caption "and we call the wind Mariah, and a few $%^&*( names". I have always loved the song "Mariah", but I am sick of this high wind that we have seen during our 21 days in Vegas. More than half the days have been great but the ones that are not alright is because the wind has howled. A number of those days the wind speeds have been in the 25 - 35 mph and with most of those days there have been gust warnings of 40 - 60 mph. Enough is enough....
