Apr 25, 2010 - Background _ Why to Alaska ?

It is late summer in 1983, a campground near Lake Tahoe, California. We notice the big seagulls on top of the power poles around the campground but we have no idea why they are hanging out here. Trudy is preparing dinner and Hans is given the responsibility of grilling a chicken on the campsite’s grill, while Marcel and Linda are riding their bikes around the campsite. The marinated chicken breast is almost done and it smells wonderful. We’re all hungry after another fabulous day during our first summer-vacation trip in America. And then...

Apr 21, 2010 - The Journey begins

The Journey Begins All my life, I have never been happier then when I am on a road I have never traveled, going to someplace I have never seen. After many years of working and planning, my husband and I are ready to begin our journey. We are going to travel those roads and see those sights. We are both retired claims professionals. He was a manager, and I was a litigator. We purchased our first RV 26 years ago. We are currently on our 4the rig. It is a 32ft Class A towing a Honda CRV. After 26 years of practice, we figure we have learned...

Sep 11, 2009 - Lake Tahoe, Nevadornia

Lake Tahoe straddles the border of Nevada and California and is a playground for the rich and famous. It reminded us of Lake Placid, New York where there were lots of large and awesome summer homes with sadly more for sale than you would see in other years. We did a complete drive around the perimeter of the lake (about 120 kms) and again had beautiful weather for the tour and our picnic lunch. I was able to see Mount Rose (9,700 ft) which Beth climbed and then skied down about 10 years ago . Climbing up the mountain included carrying your...

Jul 26, 2009 - Da Ow A Ga

Hi Everyone: “Da Ow A Ga”. The Washoe Indian Tribe called this magnificent body of water Da Ow A Ga which means “edge of the lake”. Early European/Americans mispronounced Da Ow as “Tahoe”….. hence the name Lake Tahoe. About 10,500 years ago, these migratory Native Americans spent the warm summer months along Tahoe’s shoreline hunting and fishing. During the colder winter period, they relocated Eastward to Carson Valley in what is now Central Nevada. Our visit to the place American author Mark Twain called “the fairest picture the whole...

Jun 25, 2009 - Lake Tahoe

After leaving Wine Country we headed north to Sacramento to visit Gerald's old air force base during Vietnam where he learned to fly the Constellation! Becoming inactive during the 1990's, the base today is California's Air and Space Museum. Although not that large, this place had some really interesting airplanes parked out back - EC121 (the Constellation, Gerald's plane), C119 Cargo Plane, F4 Figher Jet, F104, and A1E (a prop job that saved many lives during the Vietnam War). However, between a sudden allergy attack on my part and the 90+...

Jun 6, 2009 - Zephyr Cove Resort

Today we continued north on US 395 to US 50 and over to Lake Tahoe. It rained most of the day and we set up camp in a very light rain. We ended up at the Zephyr Cove RV Resort on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. We will stay here for two nights enjoying the area and to celebrate our anniversary with a nice dinner date tomorrow night. Here's a few pics of the campground and a shot of the lake from the campground.

May 30, 2009 - Lake Tahoe, California

5/30/09 – We left Yosemite and drove 39 miles through the other side of the park on Tioga Road, the parks trans-Sierra Nevada crossing where there are numerous meadows, lakes and huge granite domes. We stopped at a scenic overlook of the Tioga Lake and ate lunch. The altitude was 9,945 ft. so there was lots of snow on the ground and icy patches on the lake. After 30 days on the road and 4,284 miles behind us, we decided (I decided and persuaded John) we needed a vacation FROM our vacation. He has run me from Sun Up to Sun Down and I am in...

Apr 16, 2009 - Beautiful Lake Tahoe

After the two days of cold snowy weather the day dawned fine and sunny so we decided to head to Lake Tahoe. Our journey to Lake Tahoe was along the Mount Rose scenic byway, which took us to over 8,000 feet and we stopped on the way to watch skiers enjoying the fresh snow at the Mount Rose ski area. As we came down over the pass we got great views for the first time of Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and is located along the border between California and Nevada. Lake Tahoe is the largest...

Oct 15, 2008 - Lake Tahoe

We finally left our friends Joe and Shirley and headed east towards Lake Tahoe, Nevada. We have chosen taking the side roads to get more of this beautiful country. Our goal was to find a campground on Lake Tahoe but that did not work out well. Unfortunately there is no campground which could accomodate our rig. Or lets say nothing we would have liked. So we continued to Carson City for overnight and continued from there going south to Beatty and Titus Canyon.
