Oct 13, 2017 - come and play

If I had lived near Lake Tahoe in my adolescence, I would have never graduated from high school, much less college. In this beautiful spot there are fun things to do outside literally year round. Although the lake is surrounded by high desert, the mountains that ring it are snow covered much of the year. There are numerous resorts for downhill and cross country skiing as well as snow boarding. In the warmer months people come here to camp, mountain bike, hike, fish, golf, kayak, windsurfing, canoe, horseback ride, snorkel, water ski, boat...

Sep 17, 2016 - Memorial Point Overlook

Our next stop on our drive around Lake Tahoe was the Memorial Point Overlook. Lake Tahoe is often touted as being one the most beautiful lakes in the United States and often referred to as the "Jewel of the Sierra." One of the best shoreline spots found on the Nevada side that required very little effort for scenic reward is the Memorial Point Overlook located in Lake Tahoe State Park. The overlook is situated on the northeast side of the lake, between Sand Harbor Park and Incline Village. From the parking area, you can access a visitor...

May 19, 2015 - Lake Tahoe

We took a night trip up to Lake Tahoe, since we haven't been there in years. We were worry about the weather, but it turn out to be a nice day and night. We stay at Harvey's and had a room with a great view. Had dinner at the 19th Kitchen - on 19th floor - food was great and especially the view.

Sep 23, 2013 - The famous Lake Tahoe

Monday 9/23 Hooked it to Lake Tahoe this morning and yet another huge climb. What takes a car about an hour takes us three. Got Winnie set up at the "Campground by the Lake" a rv park owned by the city of Lake Tahoe South set in amongst tall pines and evergreens. Lake Tahoe the lake is a very beautiful lake surrounded by mountains as you know. So it has the best of skiing in winter and sailing, or fishing the rest of the year. There are many quaint small mountain villages surrounding the lake, and then there is Lake Tahoe South. First of...

Aug 29, 2011 - Lake Tahoe, CA and NV

We had a beautiful trip across California. We went across the northern end along a fast moving river that was full of tubing, canoes and kayaks!! Now we can see why everyone says northern California is so beautiful - it really is. We got to the Lake Tahoe area and actually went around the Lake on our scooter back into the California side as well... very pretty and clean lake. Nice to see all the blues and greens in the water along the shores.

May 15, 2011 - Lake Tahoe and Reno, NV

Sorry, no pictures today. We spent part of yesterday at frigid Lake Tahoe and now we're in freezing Reno. Squaw Valley, just outside of Lake Tahoe, received 8 inches of snow last night. And the next stop on our journey was to be Lassen Volcanic National Park in northeastern California. But that’s a no-go due to unplowed, snow-covered roads in the park. We considered returning to Death Valley for some heat, but decided instead to just head towards the west coast and tour the Napa Valley. At least we shouldn't see snow there. We have really...

Feb 3, 2011 - Lodi, kirkwood, Lake Tahoe

Jul 21, 2010 - Tahoe Adventures!

Tuesday morning Today, the Kreckel, Broccolino, Dempsey, Abbott and Fletcher crews ventured out to explore the Truckee River. We were full of excitement and under the impression that this was going to be a relaxing, lazy, float 7 miles down the river. We got 2 rafts, some paddles, and cameras... and jumped in the rafts ready for adventure. The water was so refreshing and clear... the views of the mountains next to us was a sight we've never seen. Almost all of us jumped in and out of the raft to explore and visit the passing rafters! Some,...

Jul 19, 2010 - And So It Begins!!

Sunday morning we headed out at 9:00am for a 30 minute drive to the Virginia City & Truckee Railroad Station in Carson City. We were to board the steam engine at 9:30...so after getting lost and having 3 vehicles turn around 5 times...arriving 5 minutes before departure time...we had enough steam to operate the train ourselves! The hour and a half train ride from Carson City to Virginia City was very scenic; passing towns, tunnels, and traveling along narrow cliffs. Once we arrived in Virginia city, all 16 of us squeezed into a 10 passenger...

Jul 17, 2010 - We've Arrived!

Ahhh! We arrived safely and all in one piece. Other than watching Kathryn hit 4 people in the head carrying Logan's car seat down the isle of the airplane (of course...she was the last one on the plane) and some turbulence during the last hour; it was a safe flight. Although, the steward thought anyone who sits in front of Logan on future flights should pay a premium for the head and neck massages. He also asked when our return flight would be so he would be sure to call in sick that day!?!? The perk was that when at the airport, the air...

Jun 14, 2010 - Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is one of California's and Nevada's jewels. For the better part of 30 years of my life I have continued to visit the area, enjoying the breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, its many ski resorts, rafting the Truckee River, bicycling, hiking and the nightlife at the South shore casinos. The diversity of things to do in such a small area is probably unparalleled to anywhere else in the United States. Our first couple days were spent in the Coachland RV Park located just off of I80 in Truckee. The park is surrounded by...

Jun 1, 2010 - North Lake Tahoe

I stayed a couple of days in Reno and was able to attend the CSL Reno where Michael Gott is an assistant minister and music director. It was good to see Michael and he took me to lunch on Monday and showed me his house. He is happy and doing well and you know Michael and his music! It was wonderful to hear him again and to see how well he is doing at his new church. I left Reno on the 1st and drove towards Yosemite going around Lake Tahoe on the north side of the lake. This drive was very different from the southern drive around Lake Tahoe....
