May 5, 2017 - Traveling US93

Since leaving Tempe, we have been traveling primarily along US93. The highway is 1,457 miles long and starts in Wickenberg, Arizona which is northwest of Phoenix, and ends at the Canada-US border near Eureka, Montana. Technically, a section of US50 in Nevada was nicknamed the “Loneliest Highway,” but I would say that US93 is not too far behind. Kingman, Arizona was our first stop off the highway. Kingman is known for its location along Route 66. The city has a pretty good museum covering the role Route 66 played in the migration of people...

Apr 17, 2017 - Jackpot

We hit the jackpot today, Jackpot, NV that is. It’s the last town in Nevada on US 93 before the Idaho border. There’s not much in town except a couple of Casinos and a gas station. We’re staying at Cactus Pete’s Casino Sahara RV Park. The price is right at $18 a night for a full hook-up site. The cable even works so Sue can watch Dancing With the Stars. The ride from Ely today was more high country desert valley. The only interesting thing along the way was the site of a Pony Express Station. Schellbourne Station was first an Overland Stage...

Jan 6, 2017 - Jackpot

Because of gaining an hour yesterday we were up way too early this morning. We went for our free breakfast at 6:30 and we're gone by 7 so it was dark for awhile. Finally after all these years a lady at a truck stop told us how we can actually use our charge card at the pumps and I don't have to go in and prepaid a certain amount. When you want to use your card at pumps they ask for a zip code and postal code doesn't work, she told us to use 00000 instead and it worked so now atleast we can fill up. We put on 425 miles, various scenery, lots...

Brenner 2017

Nov 14, 2016 - Pendleton to Jackpot NV

We were up early once again and on the road before 7:00 am as we did not unhook the truck the previous night. The first part of the pull was a challenge as we pulled up Immigrant Pass in NE Oregon from about 500 ft. to 4,500 ft. The truck handled the pull ok but it was 12 straight miles of steady climbing. From there we followed I-84 through Oregon, past Boise, Idaho and on to Twin Falls, Idaho. At Twin Falls we stopped to admire the magnificent view of the Snake River Canyon and were treated to a display of base-jumpers parachuting into...

Yippee Tyo's!

Sep 17, 2016 - To Nevada (barely) & Pacific Time

We were on the road shortly after 9:00 this morning. It was a nice day & we didn't encounter any wind. As we drove up out of the Teton Valley Judi commented that our views would really change over the day's drive. We weren't aware that Idaho - at least eastern Idaho - had so much agriculture. We passed miles & miles of wheat fields & noticed not only the grain silos but big stacks of straw bales. After the wheat is harvested, they go back & bale the wheat straw. We also passed miles & miles of potato fields & noticed that it's potato...

Mar 28, 2016 - Cactus Pete's

Damn the snow I say lets get out of here before I gets worse. After a most enjoyable visit with our friends it was time to load the rig and continue northward. So when we returned from our gambling trek and saw what the weather man was saying I said yikes. Forecast for 8-10 inches of snow and temps of 20F. we arose this morning to about 3 inches and 22F temps. Roads were clear with weather improving 100 miles to the North which is where we were heading so I said lets go. Short day today to one of the last casinos in Nevada before we hit...

New route 15/16

Mar 23, 2015 - Cactus Pete's

Well after 2 1/2 days of eating, laughing, wagering with friends it was time to move on down the road and continue our trek northward. Our trip to and from Spring Creek Nev. was enjoyable thru a still desert like countryside with snow capped mountains surrounding us and reminding us we weren't in Apache Junction anymore and the temperatures really verified it. We had fresh snow all over us this morning when we got up. We decided to make it a shop hop today and glad we did as just as we were approaching Jackpot the freezing rain and ice...

Jan 28, 2015 - Jackpot

After breakfast and fuelling up, we were on our way. We took hwy 80 and it was another stress free day of driving, nice 4 lane but could still see the scenery. We were driving in the valley most of the way. Stopped at a few of the rest areas, and then fueled up at wells again. By fuelling up it is putting in 25 or 30 in because have to pre pay and don't really want to go over although they say that you r only charged what u take. We payed 2.39 first time then 2.05. It only got up to 50 but no snow on the ground but lots in the mnts. We r...

Sep 3, 2012 - Day 17; Visit Craters of the Moon National Park, and camp in Jackpot Nevada

Day #17 Labor Day, Monday 9\3. It does not feel like a Labor Day holiday to us. And the locals are all abuzz about the fires. We are up around 8:30 and wander around the beautiful campground (images #193 and #194) which is very near the Salmon River. We see a large bird up the river some. We take a game trail and get pretty close to see that it is a bald eagle! It flies off as we near. We get back to camp and have oatmeal for breakfast (we are working down the stash of hand prepared oatmeal bagged by Laura). We finally leave camp by 12:30...

Apr 10, 2012 - Jackpot, NV

Onward we go! We made it to Jackpot, NV and stayed at Cactus Pete's RV Park. The only thing wrong with this park is that they don't turn the water on here until May 1 so you need to be prepared with your own water. They do tell you that if you make a reservation, but if you are just stopping by you wouldn't know. It was extremely cold here and it did snow a little that night, but nothing stuck to the ground. It is really hard to get use to cold weather again though after being in Arizona with 80 degree days. This was just a quick overnight...

Roper Adventures

Jul 2, 2011 - Jackpot, NV Casinos and Ranching

Another gorgeous day in Northern Nevada. Sky is just a deep blue mixed with huge white culumimbus clouds and a 10 MPH breeze. I made us the best omelets with bacon, red peppers, and cheese on my Coleman stove outside the RV. I am getting good at omelet making, so Sandie says. As NV93 is not a great biking road due to the lack of any kind of shoulder, I decided to take Sandie's mountain bike for a ride into the mountains. Because we are at 6,000 feet any exercise requires a lot of water. Fortunately we bought me a Camel while at Zion and it...
