We had quite a day of exploring today, we visited the town of Genoa, Nevada. The community was the home to Nevada's first hotel, newspaper, and court. Nevada's first newspaper, the Territorial Enterprise, was founded in Genoa in 1858 but moved to Virginia City in 1860. Another first for the state, the Genoa Bar, billed "Nevada's oldest thirst parlor", was patronized by Mark Twain, Teddy Roosevelt, and Johnny Cash and was used in John Wayne and Clint Eastwood films. May 28, 2009 - Genoa, Nevada

Instead of staying at home today as a rest day between hikes, we decided to go for a drive to check out the neighborhood. Quite to our surprise, we found a Target just 2 blocks from the campground. That is good to know. I like Target better than Wal-Mart. As we left the city limits of Carson City, we drove highway 207 which skirts the base of the Carson Range.
