Jun 6, 2016 - Hi!

Been hanging out the past couple of days not doing much. Mom is having trouble with pain in her lower back. Not sure if it's a kidney infection, strained back muscle or heart related. We have her on cranberry juice, plenty of water, an antibiotic, muscle creams & relaxers & a full body mas-sager. Trying to cover all the bases. We'd discussed taking her to the doctor this morning but she wants to give it one more day. Hopefully something will kick in today & she'll begin feeling better. It's been quite warm, hitting 90 yesterday, although...

Jun 2, 2016 - Willow Creek Trading Post...

Thought I would share a few pics taken at the Willow Creek Trading Post on our recent visit to the Ward Charcoal Ovens. We have visited this place a couple of times now & nothing much has changed. If you are in the area & visiting the ovens it's worth a quick stop. Plenty of antiques and junk, both inside & out! It's a shame the couple that own it don't do more business. The man is 90 years of age & quite ill & the woman just had a stroke & walks heavily with a cane. She told Larry the children don't want to inherit it, so maybe someone out...

Jun 1, 2016 - Ward Charcoal Ovens...

Monday morning Mom, Larry & I decided to explore the Ward Charcoal Ovens, located about 18 miles southeast of Ely via U.S. 93. Operational from 1875 through 1879, the ovens were used during the silver boom years of the Ward Mines. Silver ore was discovered in 1872 when freighters were looking for oxen that were grazing in the Willow Creek Basin area near Ely. The Ward Mining District, located two miles north of the park, was then developed. The beehive shaped ovens replaced the old pit system of producing charcoal because the ovens were...

May 30, 2016 - Memorial Day fun...

It's Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, dating back to the years following the Civil War. At the time, groups would decorate the graves of Confederate and Union soldiers, a practice still acknowledged with people often visiting cemeteries to decorate veteran graves. In 1868, May 30 was set aside as a nationwide Decoration Day, with the date selected because it didn't correspond to the anniversary of any particular battle. After World War I, the day became known to honor veterans of both the Civil War and the more recent...

May 29, 2016 - On the road again...

Well, it was finally time to get back out on the road again for the coming summer months. Although we lived in Las Vegas for nearly 40 years & should be used to their summertime temperatures, I just can't deal with the heat much anymore. When we started this full time adventure over 10 years ago I told Larry to please try to keep me where the temperature runs between 70-75 most days. So far he's done a great job of taking us to the best places in the country!!! Looking forward to much more :) Our first stop for now will be a visit with...

Mar 23, 2016 - Prospector Hotel/Casino

It's stinking cold on this northbound trip, not sure if this is for us or not lol. Temp only made it to 56F today, long pants and socks. staying a tried and test park, $20/nite with all the amenities why not eh. Off to see friends in N Nevada tomorrow for a few days and then the final trek will commence. Not much else to report, scenery was good all day but strong head winds kept me on my toes, felt good to stop this afternoon. I still don't have access to my email but talking with Microsoft we are close. Lots of rigs pointed north on the...

Nov 26, 2015 - Happy Thanksgiving to All!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We hope you all have a wonderful day. We are very thankful for all our blessing. We had a great dinner at the Prospector Hotel next door, we were even able to drive right up to the door. The snowplows were busy early this morning clearing all the snow. We are hoping to get back on the road in the morning. We have reservations in Washington for December 1, we have over a thousand miles to go and hope to be on time. I will keep everyone posted as much as possible on the drive. Check back later for more from our...

Nov 24, 2015 - Snow in Ely

What a difference a day makes. We got up this morning to six or more inches of snow and more coming down. We usually check the weather reports before traveling, we forgot this time. Yikes! It looks like we will be here for a couple more days. We made the best of it and enjoyed the snow and the cool mining town. Ely is the largest city and county seat of White Pine County, Nevada, United States. Ely was founded as a stagecoach station along the Pony Express and Central Overland Route. Ely's mining boom came later than the other towns along...

Nov 23, 2015 - Drive to Ely, Nevada

We got off to a late start today, we had so much to do to get ready to roll. We drove about 260 miles to Ely, Nevada. We passed a lot of awesome Joshua trees along the way. We have visited this cool town before and loved it. We are all set up at the Prospector RV Park for $22 a night. A great price for full hook ups and super fast Wi-Fi. We are planning to move on early in the morning. Jerry went outside and snagged some really cool pictures of the moon over the snowy mountains. We were so tired we just watched TV and went to bed. We are...

Oct 28, 2015 - Wendover, Nv...

Well as usual I am running behind again. It's been a week since I last posted so of course we're not sitting in Little America, WY any longer, lol! We pulled out last Wednesday morning after a good nights rest & arrived in Wendover, Utah around 4pm. Wendover actually has an East Wendover & a West Wendover. So one half of the town is in Utah & the other half is in Nevada. We chose to camp overnight on the Utah side as there is a Shell station there with a huge parking lot that has 'ShorePower' available for rv's & trucks. None of the...

Oct 21, 2015 - On the road again...

Well, we're back on the road again! We pulled out of Custer, SD on Saturday morning. It was a clear, lovely day which made for good traveling. I am so far behind in posting it is ridiculous but I'll try to do better in the future. So in a couple of days I'll backtrack just a bit for the last few activities we enjoyed before heading out. We arrived in Casper Wyoming Saturday evening & called my Uncle Ed, Aunt De & family to see if we could get together after church on Sunday. So glad they had time for us! We arrived at their house about...

Jun 15, 2015 - On the road again!

Well, it was time to say goodbye to Mom & get on the road again. We did install both her swamp cooler & her window cooler while visiting this past week which is a good thing as they are having unusually warm temps for this time of the year. We tried to talk her into going with us for a bit but she ultimately decided she didn't want to deal with the Las Vegas airport coming back home. Perhaps she'll change her mind & fly into Rapid City later on this summer. We know she would thoroughly enjoy herself in the Black Hills. After dumping our...
